Franco Lazzari and Stefano Terzi originally met each in the early 90’s while working in New York. At ViceVersa, Franco and Stefano, unveiled their vision for a contemporary Italian restaurant, combining the traditions of their own cultural background with the youth and energy of their years, and the sophistication and experience of their time in major New York City restaurants.

I love that this restaurant has a very inventive and generous menu, especially for Restaurant Week which can sometimes be disappointing at other restaurants. I had the Colechino (braised lentils with Italian sausage) to start---very tasty. The chef/owner's signature dish, Casoncelli, was a little disappointing as the main course. Veal, raisin and amaretto cookies wrapped in dough pockets with fried pancetta, sage, and butter was rich. Rich is not a negative for me, but the pancetta was fried to a hard crisp and the whole thing was sitting in too much oil. To be fair, my friend didn't think hers was overdone. I had Italian cheesecake for dessert which was light and enhanced by the strawberry coulis. I will give this place another try because I think they have original dishes and the staff was lovely.
I have been going here since it opened about 19 years ago, still excell in everything.
Food is top notch, especially the pasta, and seafood....Pastery chef also surprises.
Franco is super, and always greets me with a smile and hug....

Do no miss this place, near the theaters if that is your occasion. But just good anytime.
We went there during the NYC restaurant week and ordered from the dinner menu. I cannot put in words how disappointed we were. In my review I will focus on the food, but clearly a nicer overall service should be the standard for a restaurant like this (no questions about how the food was or if we needed salt/olive oil/vinegar).
The soup had absolutely no seasoning and tasted like straight out of a can...pasta in soup was nowhere near aldente. Then I had the salmon as main course and it got worse. It was a freshly defrosted salmon, as watery as it tasted. Again no seasoning and the whole thing just consisted of a lot of water. Mashed potatoes were also not made with milk, water again and no clue if the kitchen had run out of salt that day. The spinach with garlic would have been good, if the garlic would not have been burnt. Dessert was OK but no italian speciality, more like a smooth applepie with chunks and raisins.
The offered amount of wines is pretty decent and my Barbarescu was good like expected.
In conclusion, it was a very disappointing evening at a restaurant which scores so many good ratings on a lot of webpages. I even would not describe myself as picky, or I don‘t know if it was just the because of the restaurant week menu and dinner, but it was not worth the price nor the excitement. I still would not recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to eat authentically italian. Go to LittleItaly and you will find bettet ambiente/service and foremost better food for clearly better value.
We chose Vice Versa when it popped up as a "Restaurant Week" special, pre matinee luncheon. We were not disappointed.
The service was impeccable, as were our appetizer, entree and dessert choices for $29 pp. Everything that was brought to the table was a full portion and beautifully prepared. Our waitstaff was professional, knowledgeable and pleased to offer assistance. We also chose the 1/2 carafe wines specials, one red and one white, and each of us was pleased with two full goblets, more than we expected. With wine, tax and gratuity, our luncheon tab did escalate closer to $60 pp. a bit high for lunch, but the quality, quantity and service were impeccable and we were so full, neither of us ate dinner! Would definitely recommend!
Vice Versa is a find. Somehow places that offer food prepared with skill, quality ingredients and care can fly below the NYC hype and fail to get the recognition they deserve. This is a very nice choice for a meal where you want to have a leisurely conversation (and hear each other with ease), and savor your meal. The duck pasta was especially good.
We chose this restaurant based on great reviews on yelp and we thought it didn’t quite live up to the high praise. Not bad but not great. The pasta dishes were good but salad was meh and service was mixed. Waiter was very sweet but helping staff had to be asked multiple times for fresh ground pepper and fresh grated cheese (and olive oil, which was not brought to the table with bread). Decorating out on the patio (view from our table) had obnoxious flashing Christmas decorations and music was loud jazz version of Beatles tunes and “lets get physical”. Ugh.
This is one of the best restaurants in the theater district. The food and the service are consistently very good and you never feel rushed if you are attending a show following dinner.
We have eaten here many times and will continue to recommend this special restaurant.
It can be challenging to find a good restaurant in the theater district. We had a very good dining experience at ViceVersa. Food was very good. We had an assortment of salads, pasta, fish. Thought the wines served by the glass were excellent where generally I find them disappointing. Also, notable were the desserts!!! Yum. We also liked the service, ambiance and convenient location.
Vice Versa is one of my favorite places to dine. I frequent it before and after the theater - and have never been disappointed with the food, service, and great hospitality. I am always treated like a special guest - and waiters are very courteous, prompt with the service, great with suggestions of the 'best foods," and eager to please! I highly recommend it for a great dining place in NYC!
We eat here at least three times whenever we visit NY, and it never disappoints. The pasta courses are exceptional even by NY measures, especially the duck ragout and the paperdelle with wild boar. ViceVersa stands out because even though the setting is elegant, the service is attentive and personable, and meals are always very comfortable, never intimidating. The server will advise you on the wine that best matches your food choices and your taste, and will not attempt to move you up to higher priced options.
This place was visited based on a recommendation from a friend. The staff was very welcoming. The food was different and delicious. The group I took there was very impressed. I fully recommend the place. In addition, the holiday decorations made it even more special.The price fix meals are a great value!
This is a very good, moderately priced, did I say moderately priced, YES, NYC Italian restaurant. Not too small but not large. Great lighting. Excellent feel. Very close to Broadway theaters. Friendly staff. Very good food and wines. Loved it. A great NYC option.
First time here - food was very good and staff was very attentive. A nice twist on traditional Italian recipes -- familiar and very tasty but not the same typical menu items you often find in other places. Nice ambiance and was packed on a Wednesday evening. I'd return again and recommend to others.
We had a wonderful time. Do not get to NY often but have always planned on dinner here. Long time current ownership. Consistently good. Octopus appetizer excellent. Two half portions of pasta and split a veal main. All excellent. Cocktails perfectly made (Rusty Nail). Christmas decorations beautiful. We have told our friends over the years and they have enjoyed as much as we do! Surprise pistachio flan desert in honor of our anniversary was superb. Thanks much !
