Food was nice and atmosphere was relaxed. The Ambiance is nice, but the way they seat party of 2 guests in half booths is a bit odd. When you're planning on being with the person you came to dinner with it's weird to constantly be looking at a separate party across from you if you're on the end booth. Food service was slow for mains, apps were faster.
The small plates, large plates, and salads were delicious. Don’t waste you money on the flatbreads. We make better ones at home. The crust tasted floury and flat with little flavor. The squid ink pasta was delicious.
We had a party of 6 with several dietary needs. Dinner was amazing, there was no crowd because we ate before a theater performance (5:30-6:45pm).
The remodeled layout--with bar to one side--has made the restaurant-side ambience excellent; quiet, not too quiet. Service was perfect: friendly, attentive but not too much so. We were there for an anniversary and felt well treated throughout. Arugula salad was one of the best versions I've had, and we enjoyed the rest of the dinner as well.
First time there. Excellent meal and friendly and efficient service. Next time I need a meal in Central Square I expect to be back
Food was a little disappointing. The chestnut agnolotti was a forkful of confusion that assaulted my palate with waves of awkward aftertastes and undercooked pasta. I cleared my glass of water in preparation for the next dish. The siege continued with a pistachio pesto flatbread that riddled my tongue and now nose with newfound unpleasantries, but at least it was cooked all the way through. I remedied the situation by constructing mounds of grated parmesan atop everything on the table as if to make each bite tolerable. Service was decent though.
Fantastic food, great for sharing. It was recommended by a friend who joined us and he said it was as good as the first time he was there. The pasta dishes were very good, the salads were excellent and really the highlight of the meal.
The food was amazing! Octopus is out of this world delicious! Pistachio, pesto Flatbread is to die for. The lobster fettuccine, however, is lacking lobster and what little there was, was more like langostino. Otherwise, would have given the food 5 stars. That said, I would highly recommend and would go back
It's always a pleasure to have dinner at Viale! Great food. Great service.
The service is a bit slow. But the $1 oyster special is worth the visit.
Great service, great ambiance. Salmon & flat iron steak were excellent!!
I've been here several times, and have always enjoyed the service, the food, and especially the cocktails. We had a superb wine at this meal.
always friendly and welcoming, with great food.
Great service and friendly staff. The meal was delicious!
Excellent food, excellent service! Wonderful place to celebrate a birthday.
This restaurant is a gem. We had a reservation and were seated promptly by one of the owners. Always a good sign when the owner is on site. They have a $1 per oyster special from 5pm to 7pm nightly. So we started with a dozen. Served well chilled and expertly shucked. A great start with a nice martini. We then split a pistachio pesto flat bread. Arrived hot, crisp and delicious. My wife ordered the lobster tagliatelle which was perfectly al dente and was infused with seafood flavor. I ordered the wood grilled duck breast with a pumpkin purée and pearl couscous. Outstanding. The duck was served with not only the breast but also the wing portion. The couscous was perfectly cooked and seasoned including roasted pine nuts. The purées was light and delightful. There was also a great reduction as well. The epitome of a late fall dinner. Our server was fantastic. She was there when we needed her but not overly intrusive. The ambiance was modern casual and table separation allows for any easy conversation. Pricing was very reasonable for the quality and service. We dined very well for $140 for 2 including drinks, appetizers and properly portioned mains. Highly recommend this for a date night. I hate to write this kind of review because the next time we go it will be more difficult to get a reservation but they deserve all their success because they care about the food, service and most importantly their customers.
We ordered 5 dishes and none of them were to our liking. The flatbread was inedible - on the plus side our waiter comped it. The meatballs were hard and salty; everything was a bit too salty. The ravioli tasted like frozen ones you heat up from the store. The lobster was overpowered by its sauce. The octopus was a bit slimy. Very disappointing and not cheap.
We love Viale. The food is always high quality and delicious. We feel always welcome and appreciated as the staff is friendly and professional. Mass Ave would benefit from having more restaurants like top notch Viale.
I am Italian and felt like I was home in Italy. Totally delicious.
Consistently good in all ways. Even better, the menu changes regularly, so even though we are regular customers, we're never bored with the food. Bread is fresh and hot when it hits the table, and staff really know what they are doing. They don't have loud music in the background which makes Viale a good place to have good conversation. Thank you !
The food and service were excellent as always, but the noise! I couldn’t hear the person across the table from me. Honestly, I love this restaurant, it’s a local treasure, but I hesitated because I remember it being loud the last time I went. Decided to try again and it was probably even worse. This kills me because otherwise I really love it.
Delicious food and creative cocktails. Perfect location!
The servers didn't seem to know the drinks and menu well. What they recommended was precisely fit the description of what I did NOT want.
Swordfish was perfectly cooked, and Brussels sprout salad was delicious
Like most restaurants today, Viale was too noise. No sound absorbing surfaces on floor, four walls or ceiling. When the place filled up I had to shout at my companions to make myself heard. Fortunately it was time to leave for the theater.
The dining experience was excellent and I would go back when it was quiet, but I would not go back to Viale at a time when it was busy. It's just too noisy for a place where you're paying $30 or more for an entre.
It was a lovely place with great food and easy to fit and catch up with friends! W I would absolutely recommend!
The bites, entrees, and drinks were great. The desserts seemed to not be nearly as well thought out. We ordered two at the table and both of them went mostly untouched.
The food was excellent. Really interesting and tasty pasta dish, chestnut agnolotti. There was a duck breast special that was yummy. The appetizers were also really good. This is my go to restaurant.
Food was overly heavy on cheese. (Salad and flatbread).
Oysters were decent. Thanks
Great food and service! Not too noisy but cool atmosphere.
Outstanding. Not to miss!!
Please rotate your menu. For those of us who come to the restaurant regularly, we need some menu changes.
great local place, wonderful food and service--this is our favorite
Viale menu is limited and the food is good but nothing that would keep you away but not worthy of a brag
Great food at a affordable price. Service was a bit lackluster, but that's probably due to a slow Sunday afternoon seating.
Good food and atmosphere, but portions were way too small. In addition, things that one expects with an expensive meal (like bread at the beginning) was there, but the servers carried a basket around and you had to ask for bread whenever you wanted a single piece. It felt like they were stingy with the bread and with all the food. Food was very tasty but far from a satisfying portion.
The food was outstanding. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recommend this place!
Limited vegetarian options, but tasty
The menu is not overwhelming in terms of volume (which I consider a plus; I'd rather choose from three or five things I really would like to try than 16, which just adds noise to the menu and selection process), but is diverse enough for most tastes. The food is very well prepared (the steak was beautifully seared and served, though the delicious monkfish was a bit skimpy and served on an overdressed romaine and bean salad that, I thought, was not well described in the menu. The roasted corn and mushroom flatbread pizza was beautifully done as well - simple but fresh and delicious.
The service (at least on this occasion) was really really good, as we had a professional but friendly server who really knew his stuff. And the drinks - perhaps the winner in terms of inventiveness - were as great as ever. (I had the "Bad Barista," which was a n excellent rum-based recipe.)
The food at Viale was very good, especially the grilled octopus. We dined there during Restaurant Week and so had the prix fixe menu which was a very good value. We tried one of the cocktails - though I don't think it was too successful! Adding orange bitters to a gin martini gave it a weird sweetness which was not welcome!! Overall though, a good experience .
