Via Veneto Ratings and Reviews
Wow! This is the best Italian food I have eaten since leaving Italy! Max, our waiter, was knowledgeable, fun, attentive, and a true asset to this restaurant. The tiramisu was light and airy. The wine list is extensive and Max was very knowledgeable about the wines and made a perfect suggestion. Risotto was memorable! A very wonderful evening and a must eat!
Needs a cohesive staff on the floor. Main waiter was loud and irritating.
Value of food questionable. Had 2 bottles wine recommended that happened to be last bottles so I didn't order a 3rd. That wasn't a coincidence. Place beautiful inside but feels played out.
It’s a lovely spot and could be considered romantic. The salmon was likely the best I’ve ever had and I eat a lot of salmon! Menu is nice with varied selections. The music they play felt weird at times-almost like Club music. It gets a bit noisy because it’s small. Quite intimate but it’s possible to reserve a large table if needed. $$$$ but I’d definitely return
Food was fine but thoroughly spectacular. The wine list is unusual in that it is long with very few recognizable Italian wines, so I asked for recommendations. The woman who was sent to help us could only recommend the most expensive bottle and each of three sections as her suggestion, this felt inappropriately disingenuous. Service was slow and the restaurant is extremely loud.
The staff isn’t what keeps me coming back... it’s deifnitley the food. The mushroom risotto is impeccable. This last time I went, they messed up the overall order (requested amarticiana and another shrimp pasta and ended up with shrimp risotto and the shrimp pasta - SODIUM OVERLOAD) and I didn’t realize it until we actually left which was a bummer - caught up in conversation.
The staff could use improvement and come to the table more, be aware and alert of customers needs and wants. I’m not fussy by any means but at the time I went, there were only 3 tables including ourselves and we couldn’t even get their attention for over 10-15 mins.
Went to Madeo last night and maybe because we’re regulars it was more pleasant but I’d like to think I’ve been here (VV) more than the average person with friends and loved ones to give it another shot and the attitude of the staff is the same.
I love the food here and it’s close to Malibu so it’s convenient for a nice dinner so I will come back but it’s a bugger when service isn’t as expected.
A bit uptight about bring your own wine even though there’s a cork fee -eye roll. You have good wines but not always the best IMO.
I don’t care about pricing for the food here.
Most authentic Italian restaurant I’ve ever been to in LA. Food was fabulous. Staff, who are all Italian, were warm, lovely and professional. The room is intimate and beautifully lit be three chandeliers. Conversation is easy because one doesn’t have to shout. I would dine here every night if I could. And... they make the best panna cotta I’ve ever had. Brava!
Squid ink pasta was drowned in cheap salmon roe flakes that killed the dish. Pasta soft and sauce not really consistent with good ink pasta dishes.
Dover sole average and not very flakey firm.
Olive oil on table always dead give away for quality of Italian restaurant as this was quite bitter and cheap.
Unfortunately there are many better choices for old school Italian.
This is our favorite local restaurant for authentic Italian food. We eat here at least 2-3 times a month. Whenever we have friends and/or guests we usually take them to Via Veneto. Afterwards, everyone raves about their food ,dining experience and always looking to return the next time they're "in town" for a visit.
I've eaten here 2-3 times before over several years and this latest experience was disappointing. It was a Monday night with a small crowd that quickly ballooned into a nearly a full restaurant. It's a small place and sadly service went down hill quickly. My guest requested a pasta dish with lobster(on the menu). The waiter came back and said they were out. Our reservation was at 7:30 and they don't open until 6pm. How could that be. Un-prepared. It will be a while before I eat here again or perhaps not at all.
Every time I go to Santa Monica, I visit this restaurant four or five times, sometimes two nights in a row. It might be my favorite restaurant in the world, and I have traveled all over and eaten in more restaurants than I could possibly count. No Italian restaurant in Italy that I have ever dined in, is as good as this cozy, yet refined and elegant Italian gem in Santa Monica. The food is divinity on earth, the service impeccable, and the atmosphere enchanting. I brought a friend of mine who has been in the restaurant/catering business in LA for 30 years. She's very successful. She freaked out about how good it was and also about the fact that she'd never heard of it. (She is in the know about all of the chefs and restaurants in LA.) I have to admit I was pretty pleased with myself that I impressed her! You will never be disappointed at Via Veneto!
STAY AWAY, this place is a rip off!!
Regret ever going here! Food is terrible, waiters are rude, said we would get a sauce for free and charged us 70$ extra when we got the check!! I am a big foodie and been to many restaurants but have never been treated this poorly!
Do yourself a favor, save your money or go somewhere else!
