Via Veneto Ratings and Reviews
Most authentic Italian restaurant I’ve ever been to in LA. Food was fabulous. Staff, who are all Italian, were warm, lovely and professional. The room is intimate and beautifully lit be three chandeliers. Conversation is easy because one doesn’t have to shout. I would dine here every night if I could. And... they make the best panna cotta I’ve ever had. Brava!
Squid ink pasta was drowned in cheap salmon roe flakes that killed the dish. Pasta soft and sauce not really consistent with good ink pasta dishes.
Dover sole average and not very flakey firm.
Olive oil on table always dead give away for quality of Italian restaurant as this was quite bitter and cheap.
Unfortunately there are many better choices for old school Italian.
This is our favorite local restaurant for authentic Italian food. We eat here at least 2-3 times a month. Whenever we have friends and/or guests we usually take them to Via Veneto. Afterwards, everyone raves about their food ,dining experience and always looking to return the next time they're "in town" for a visit.
I've eaten here 2-3 times before over several years and this latest experience was disappointing. It was a Monday night with a small crowd that quickly ballooned into a nearly a full restaurant. It's a small place and sadly service went down hill quickly. My guest requested a pasta dish with lobster(on the menu). The waiter came back and said they were out. Our reservation was at 7:30 and they don't open until 6pm. How could that be. Un-prepared. It will be a while before I eat here again or perhaps not at all.
Every time I go to Santa Monica, I visit this restaurant four or five times, sometimes two nights in a row. It might be my favorite restaurant in the world, and I have traveled all over and eaten in more restaurants than I could possibly count. No Italian restaurant in Italy that I have ever dined in, is as good as this cozy, yet refined and elegant Italian gem in Santa Monica. The food is divinity on earth, the service impeccable, and the atmosphere enchanting. I brought a friend of mine who has been in the restaurant/catering business in LA for 30 years. She's very successful. She freaked out about how good it was and also about the fact that she'd never heard of it. (She is in the know about all of the chefs and restaurants in LA.) I have to admit I was pretty pleased with myself that I impressed her! You will never be disappointed at Via Veneto!
STAY AWAY, this place is a rip off!!
Regret ever going here! Food is terrible, waiters are rude, said we would get a sauce for free and charged us 70$ extra when we got the check!! I am a big foodie and been to many restaurants but have never been treated this poorly!
Do yourself a favor, save your money or go somewhere else!
I ead the reviews before booking this place and they turned out to be fairly accurate. Our experience was great with the staff and service - we were seated at our table upon our arrival at the time of our reservation. The service was good, although I had to ask for water a couple of times. The food was good but not great. The langostinos were good but not great - and pricey at $55 for a plate of five. We avoided the "specials" with various truffle sauces so as to avoid the price-gouging that goes with them - no prices are provided. The wine was good but not great, and, again, pricey.
This restaurant is a jewel. We make a point to come here every time we're in Santa Monica. The service is professional and attentive, and you'll be transported by the ambiance, especially when the intimate dining room is lit by candles at night. And if this weren't enough, the food is wonderfully executed. I tried every course in a party of six and every dish was a knockout. Well done!
We had one of our "BEST" meals of all time. The food was tasty and delicious. We practically cleaned off all our plates from the appetizers to entrees and ending with the deserts. The service was impeccable and was not over bearing. Simone was magnificent in catering to all our needs. Overall, an A++++
It was the best meal we've had on a long time. Every course was exquisite . Best panda cotta I had in a long time and I order it every place they serve it. Its not about the flavor as much as it is about the texture. Pricy but worth every penny.
Can't wait to go back, even though we drove over an hour to eat there.
Great wine list, ambience and service but it starts and ends with food, and it wasn't that good, particularly at the price point. My wife's risotto with langoustine and Meyer lemon was watery and tasted like ordinary boiled rice instead of Arborio riso cooked traditionally; the riso in my risotto with cheese and black truffle was proper, but truffle oil, which was not listed as an ingredient on the menu, had been added and too much so (perhaps to try to fill in the difference between black ruffles and white tartufo from Alba which are out of season?). My veal paillard was dry - I didn't like it and only ate half. Our near $300 bottle of Amarone was served cooler than room temperature, but still probably about 5 degrees F too warm. My wife's main course of langoustine were fine, and our appetizer of prosciutto and cantaloupe was very good. Via Veneto has everything else going for it - if they stepped it up in kitchen it would be a top restaurant.
Our dining experience was good, not exceptional. Somewhat overpriced. Service was adequate, not great. Despite mentioning when making the reservation that it was our anniversary, nothing was done as far as a special dessert or anything else. Overall, no serious complaints.
This is a truly exceptional dining experience. The menu is thoughtfully structured with delicious item after item. The occasion was our wedding anniversary and was worth the splurge. Instead of traveling out of Santa Monica where we reside we decided to celebrate it here. The menu is pricy but not ridiculous. It's what we expected. Not being a wine drinker payed into my favor as the sparkling Italian water was perfect. Try the ravioli sampler it's amazing way to start the dining experience.
