VIA UNO Cucina Italiana & Bar
The service and the ambience were good, as was the location, but much the food was very bland. I have not had to ask for salt at a restaurant in ages, and we weren't the only ones- we overheard the table next to us saying the same thing. The food was hit or miss. The meatballs were great. The red sauce under them tasted like straight tomato sauce from a can. The risotto was well cooked but ridiculously bland, while the scallops on top were delicious. Crab pasta was pretty tasty. The mixed fried appetizer was well cooked and good.
Horrible! Stay clear of this place
Wrong food order delivery
What a great group of owners/servers at Via Uno. Authentic food served with friendliness.
I joked with my date that we were at the Olive Garden. The noise level was insane. The accordion player was too loud right in front which increased the noise level overall. Lots of families and kids-- really shocked. This was the opposite of a romantic dinner. We asked to change tables since the table next to us had annoying kids climb around like monsters.
We were a group of eight people. We all ordered different entrées and everybody said they thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Good bar selection too.
Incredible food, warm service. You feel at home as soon as you walk in the door. We have been before. We will go again.
The food and staff were wonderful. My husband and I heard about this place through a friend and we had the BEST service from Anna. The pizza and gnocchi was done perfect. We are coming back again soon.
Amazing food and attentive service. We will always come back to Via Uno when we're craving great Italian cuisine!
A group of 4 of us went on a Tuesday night for the special 4 course meal. For $19.99, we had lentil soup or salad, creamy delicious risotto, salmon and for dessert, canneloni. All the courses were very good. The portions were on the small side but we all had plenty to eat. No one left hungry. There were some very reasonable Italian red wines on the menu. The chef came and spoke with us, which is always cool. All the wait staff had Italian accents. Can't wait to go back and try another Tuesday special.
Wonderful dining experience! The Carbonara and Brazino were amazing as well as the attention and knowledge of the staff/owners.
Excellent - fantastic - delicious - need I say more?
I took my friend for her birthday to Via Uno today. Was there last weekend as well for my sister’s birthday with the rest of the family. I’ve been here 6 times. They never fail.
We had carbonara as a starter. It was soooo delicious. For the main entree, we both had one of the specials of the day, the Corvina (baked sea bass). It just melted in our mouth. The dish was a great choice. We were so satisfied with the meal, decided not to have any dessert. Our server, Ana, brought us tiramisu with a lighted candle and sang happy birthday to my friend. That was very sweet of her. My friend and I both enjoyed the tiramisu. It was wonderful. Grazie!! We’ll definitely be back!
Phenomenal food and coastal ambience. The chef is from Roma, Italy and the pasta was the closest I’ve tasted to Roma. A must!
Bean and carrot soup was more a cup than bowl and was like runny baby food. Pear /Walnut/Cheese salad was a yucky wad of arugala (very little pear, walnut, cheese)...a joke. Everything except pizza is overpriced. Owner came out to adjacent table and laughed at other customers, including us. They just would not shut up. What a bunch of pretentious phonies. Not worth the price.
Annual family year end vacation dinner.
Momma Mia that’s a spicy meatball!
They treat you like family every single time. Love this place!
Always great friendly service.
We went to Via Uno for the Tuesday Local Special. This is the 4th time we have gone. As usual, the food was great. The portions appear to be on the small side, however, both my wife and I were quite full at the end of the meal. They also have a good wine selection.
Certain pizzas were very tasty. Most wines are Italian. Entrees/pasta dishes didn't have much flavor. The service was good. Dessert not many choices. We were an early diner yet some of the desserts were already sold out. The salads were fresh/huge but not a lot of flavor either.
Maybe best advise is go for the pizzas, salads and beer/wine only; the service was good enough. I'd pass on the entrees and pasta (pricey and no flavor).
Picked Via Uno Cucina for our annual get-together lunch. Our meeting time was at 12:30. We did not leave the restaurant until 5:30 —- girls’ never ending chatting.
The food at Via Uno is always very good. They never fail. Been there 4 times, and first time for the others. Our server, Anna, was wonderful. Will definitely be back.
The ambiance and service are always excellent at Via Uno. We love this place.
Always good and always fun!
Really wanted to love this place. Unopened mussels in the Zuppa de Pesce (sent back and no better the second time) and scrambled eggs in the Pasta Carbonara left us with little more to say than, “probably not again”. So sad. Really nice people and SO wanted to love it, based on previous reviews over the years. Sorry I can’t be more positive.
Always consistent with good food and service, very friendly, like going to eat with the family
Everything was wonderful - soup, salad, and the pizza! Service was great!
Pros: I had high hopes for this place. The brick oven pizza that my husband and I shared was very good. I loved the fresh chili peppers that were served on the side, with the chili flakes. Nice touch!! We both ordered an Old Fashioned from the bar & they were made perfectly. Our waiters were great!
Cons: We ordered two appetizers & they were both COLD, not just a little, but like out of the refrigerator cold. It was odd, because they looked cooked. One was bruschetta & the other was roasted Brussel Sprouts. When I mentioned the appetizers being cold to our waitress, I'm pretty sure I saw her head completely spin around. She seemed to be offended!! She literally got attitude with me! It was so uncomfortable after that.
Bottom line: Pizza is good, drinks are good, but we get enough attitude from our teenagers at home. We were out of town & spending money at your establishment, trying to relax & decompress. I'll pass your cold appetizers & rude waitresses. We'll try somewhere else next time.
The food is amazing. A quaint spot off the highway. Authentic Italian. We had the bruschetta which we bought more if to bring home. The eggplant and pizza took us back to Italy , delicious and the calamari was very fresh .
I’d recommend the drive because it’s rare to find such an authentic spot with great customer service
We had a wonderful dinner here with great service, excellent cocktails, and delicious food. We will go back again.
No need for a reservation as the place was practically empty, and the greeter/waiter didn’t bother to check, even after I stated I’d made a reservation.
Server seemed distracted despite so few patrons. (He forgot our water service)
Salad- greens included some older and yellowed pieces. Too much dressing.
Pizza was good, but that was about all.
No acknowledgement when we left- in fact there was no one to be seen. Very lax.
It was a solid 3/5.
50% of the food was good: bruschetta was tasty but wasn’t cut (it was like a small pizza), which was odd. Salads were mixed, with a decent Cesar but a kale salad that hadn’t been massaged, so it was chewy. Entrees were good or very good.
Service was 50%: pacing was off, e.g., food came too fast at first, but empty drinks sat on the table. Coffee came when we were done with dessert. Staff were very friendly.
The food is absolutely amazing! The best Italian meal I've ever had!
Excellent Italian with a distinct Calabrese touch.
Always great food at Via Uno. The arugula and pear salad, gnocchi and pesto risotto were all excellent. Nice italian wine. Perfect meal. Definitely a must when you are in Half Moon Bay.
Try the Eggplant Parmigiana, sooooo good! Enjoyed our waitress.
I’ve been traveling to Italy twice a year for the past decade, and I appreciate real, authentic Italian food. Via Uno serves some of the finest Italian food in the Bay Area! The family atmosphere is tranquil and relaxing, and offers the option of indoor or outdoor dining. The red wine reflects the different regions of Italy, and the Italian owner makes you feel like a member of his family. Give it a try if you want to feel like you’re back in Italy.
My husband and I think this place is a real find. There’s a nice covered patio in the back that had a cool breeze the day we were there for lunch. The pizza is delicious and our waitress very efficient and welcoming. The great-looking pasta dishes we saw being delivered to nearby tables make me want to come back when we are next in town!
It seems like they have changed their menu as well as the ingredients that they are using on some of their standard dishes. The food didn't seem to have the same wonderful flavors or the same quality that it has had in the past. It bums us out because there were 4 of us and none of us felt like the food was the same quality that we are used to from Via Uno. I am hoping that they haven't decided to redo their menu and recipes to incorporate cheaper, less quality and flavorful ingredients and that it was just an off night.
We had reservations, but were seated on the outside patio without the hose asking us if it was OK (Half Moon Bay tends to be very chilly). The bruschetta was a piece of flat bread soaked (really soaked) in olive oil and topped with uncooked diced tomatoes... it was horrible. The bread that they brought to our table was a heavy, German type loaf with an horrible tapinade. My salmon was served skin side up... mostly dark skin that I disposed of and the remaining flesh was very skimpy... hardly worth the $30 price tag and no flavor worth mentioning. My husband was served 4 lonely raviolis swimming in a sea of sauce on a huge plate... Such a disappointment . Luckily for him our children had pasta dishes that they could share so that he would not starve on Father's Day! I would never recommend this place despite the good service.
We got there early and had great service in the beginning; but as it got busier, we were forgotten. The salad was too acidic, the gnocchi wasn’t fully cooked, and the sea bass was NOT sea bass but sole. But the biggest disappointment was the dessert. It was not sweet, and not a tart at all with only two slices of apple on it. It took over two hours to get our meal and check. Sorry not worth the money.
