Via Italia Restaurant
We discovered Via Italia in 2003 and have enjoyed its consistently superior service and the quality of its food ever since. It is our go-to restaurant for lunch on New Year's Eve.
Excellent pre-theater dining. My salmon with capers and shrimp special was perfect
Good food. Awful service. Had to ask for beverages, plates were stacked at all times with empty plates. Waited 10 minutes to get check only to receive the wrong check and an additional 10 to have our card processed. All in all would not recommend or return, very disappointing.
I arrived for lunch after viewing menu on open table. I was presented with dinner menu. I requested lunch menu. Told they were same. My $17 lunch spaghetti cost $24.
real gem in the in midtown area with exceptional quality food.
good for a quiet meeting or a nice glass of wine before the theatre.
We had the Lemon Chicken , Caesar salad & Penne . Delicious and the restaurant itself is spotless . A perfect place for true Italian dining. Will definitely return.
After making the reservation via the App, we arrived at the restaurant and they could not sit us within a reasonable time so we had to leave.
Great family feel and food was wonderful.
Went there for my 3 year anniversary dinner. Very intimate and romantic. Service was amazing. The calamari fritta was the best I’ve ever eaten. 4 stars!
Via Italia i one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Midtown Manhattan. The fish is excellent as is the pasta. Always consider the specials as they are always wonderful....A long time customer
Great place!
Lovely staff!
Tony is great!
Perfect for theatre district dining!
Much better than expected !!
Quick and great service. Amazing food! A classic Italian meal.
Great food service and ambience
I did not like the ravioli pomodoro at all. Sauce was similar to Chef BorRdee. Husband enjoyed the chicken piccata.
There are PLENTY of places to find good Italian food in NYC, however, a true dining experience should offer more than just the food. Via Italia certainly does. To begin with, Mario, who has owned and watched over his patrons for 35 years now is a master host. It's like being invited over for dinner by a friend who imply enjoys pleasing his guests. Ever the gracious host--he stepped out to a nearby market to get me non-alcoholic beer (which he doesn't have on hand) . When I thanked him and told him that wasn't necessary, he simply responded with, "Of course I do it, you are my guest."There were five in our party--my wife, two adult daughters and our 8 year old granddaughter--and everyone received the same warm treatment from a man who works to please people. The food--a special burada with amazing marinara sauce and grilled shrimp for starters, followed by a delicious flounder special, tasty seafood risotto, and shrimp fra diavlo were all perfectly prepared, served hot from the kitchen (by Mario, of course) and delicious. When he found out we were celebrating my birthday (70th), Mario surprised the table with the BEST tiramisu we've ever tasted (and we've tasted our share everywhere). This is the place to come in NYC if you want the REAL THING-- real Italian food and real Italian hospitality with an owner (he's also a Cordon Bleu Chef) who really cares.
Rude staff and the food was overly priced! Absolute dump!!
Nice setting, prompt seating and service. Good food, large portions. Convenient to Times Square and the theater district but away from the crowds.
Great food and service
We had a reservation, arrived 10 minutes early on a Friday night and they told us they were closing!!?
I haven't been to Via Italia in about 10 years (went there last when I worked midtown) and while I was looking for a restaurant post Broadway matinee, I thought of Via Italia and was happy to see it was still in its current location. I loved the food then and I loved it now. The restaurant was quiet, the food was wonderful and will definitely be back again.
Was recommended by a friend for my wife's an my 40th anniversary. We wanted to get some dessert but the food was SO good and such a large portion we were too full. One thing is for sure, when we return to New York Via Italia will always be at the top of our list of places to eat!
Great Italian food ! Tito is awesome . Everything that we ordered was excellent and rhe portions were a nice size .
I highly recommend Via Italia! The staff are attentive and kind; you feel both respected and like family the moment you walk in. The ambiance is fantastic, and the food is wonderful; it's the perfect spot for a quiet conversation over a great meal, with Italian hospitality at its finest.
Wait staff was exceptional and the food - off the menu and the specials --> delicious. (Loved the bread too!)
I made a reservation, it was confirmed, got there and not only did the owner not allow me in, but he was extremely rude.
We, 6 of us gorgeous goddesses, had the most amazing time.
The service was impeccable with their attention to us and their warmth and hospitality.
My veal piccata was perfectly cooked, delicious and pounded incredibly thin.
My only request is for the lighting to dim for better ambience.
An excellent choice for midtown with very good food and reasonable prices.
Cordial and attentive service, convenient location, delicious Italian favorites at reasonable price. I'd return again.
I had a date there on Saturday night, we had fresh mozzarella salad appetizer, chicken & sole pan fried, with homemade parts Alfredo. The food was great! Only thing was they could dim the lights & have some music to make more romantic. But overall very good.
If your looking for a family run Italian restaurant then Via Italia is for you! The entrée prices were reasonable and the menu selection was good. The staff was extremely attentive. The restaurant was located a few blocks from 30 Rock.
We have been eating at Via Italia for nearly twenty years, starting when our two kids were in middle school. This time, it had been more than four years since we've been back. Mario and his team remember our faces and make us feel like family.
The food here is delicious and made in house. The menu changes frequently so that everything is fresh. We have never been disappointed in anything we've ever ordered here.
The people who work at Via Italia will keep you coming back, and we will come back every time!
Had an amazing time food was amazingly delicious service was impeccable. Alfonso was our server and the best service I ever received made me feel at home and he's an great bartender too. Alfonso was very attentive to all or needs and was very happy to help as I had gone with my family from Ukraine. Must say service was impeccable and quality of food and service was fantastic. My hats of to you guys. Great restaurant. My new favourite restaurant. 10 stars if I could must check this restaurant out. Can't say enough about our wonderful evening and experience there. AMAZING!
We went to New York to see our son and had a nice quiet dinner. The service was excellent and two of us really liked our meals. The spaghetti wasn't near the best I have had but the portions for all of us were generous. All in all it was a nice quiet setting and were glad we chose this place.
We sat there for 25 minutes whiteout being acknowledged. We were not even offered a menu, water or anything.
Walked out and they did not even noticed!
Great service, felt sorry for the guys since only two of the guys showed up for work. But they managed very well
I dined at Via Italia during the holidays. The service was very poor. We waited 45 minutes to get the check after requesting it. Additionally, our table went long periods without beverages. We were not well taken care of. I will not be dining here again.
Meal and service were absolutely spectacular!
OpenTable somehow overbooked this restaurant because when our party of 8 arrived, the proprietor said that he's been booked for weeks. He was incredibly gracious and said he would find a way to accommodate us. He unfortunately had to turn away several others that had confirmed same day reservations as well. I'd call to confirm your opentable reservation.
I’m not sure how they are on Open Table, we made a reservation and show up and we’re told they only use open table as a second option for reservation. If you call them direct your first on the list and open table isn’t a guarantee. We along with 8 other groups of people who used open table were turned away because our reservation didn’t actually have a reserve a table for us.
We wanted to eat around Times Square so chose this restaurant. We got there quite a bit early but they were very gracious about seating us.
Our dinners were mediocre and did not taste homemade. We never saw our waiter after our dinner was served. We were never offered grated cheese although we saw other tables getting some. We were never asked if we wanted refills on drinks. We asked for additional bread because it was so good. Never got that. The prices were quite high for the quantity and quality. We would not go back.
