Via Carducci - Wicker Park Ratings and Reviews
Via Carducci was a very nice restaurant! Loved the food and loved the pairing with the wine. Our waiter was very nice and attentive, and was helpful in finding vegetarian options for all of us (we were a party of three, all vegetarians). I will definitely be back to Via Carducci!
We came here before a House Theatre show, at the Chopin Theatre a few blocks east.
Excellent food!! And great service! My husband likes spicy and our waiter brought him some special hot peppers from the kitchen for the pizza. Food Highlights: Brussels sprouts perfectly cooked, classic chicken Parmesan. Very generous portions! We ordered a pizza for an appetizer, excellent crust but a little too much cheese. And my spinach salad had a bit too much dressing. Plus the house chianti wine was room temp/slightly warm but this is my consistent issue at neighborhood Italian restaurants. Red wine should be served at cellar temperature, slightly cool.
Overall, I recommend coming here and we will be coming back!
Via Carducci has long been one of my favorite neighborhood spots for Italian food. They are consistent and delicious! The outdoor seating is great (indoors can be a bit crowded but cozy). Of the dozens of times I've been here, I have never been disappointed, nor have my dining companions.
The white pizza with prosciutto and arugula was a standout! Highly recommended! If you love garlic, try the linguini and clams - fresh and large portion. Great neighborhood spot and patio area. Only complaint was patio service was very slow - our waiter forgot about us at end.
Our evening was lovely; good food, fun street music, and an adept Wait staff. I was a little put off due to a situation that arose. A patron sitting at a table near us suffered a medical event. My friend a nursing student immediately went over to offer assistance until an ambulance arrived. She and one of the waitstaff provided support and also moved chairs and tables for the paramedics. I was disappointed that no one from the restaurant thanked or acknowledged her help. Maybe I am wrong but someone should have. Especially as there appeared to be a manager on site.
We love eating on the patio in the summer and Via Carducci never disappoints! The service is great, we love the ambiance with the lights and the people ( and pet ) watching on the patio. Of course the real star of the night is the consistently excellent food! So good!
IN our continuing sampling of Italian restaurants, this restaurant certainly fit the bill. The menu had a wide variety of pasta selections and certainly enough options for other Italian food not pasta -centric. we ordered the Antipasto for two, a selection of Italian meat and cheese. Although it was a little pricey, the selection on the plate were certainly interesting, with a more exotic variety than on the stand antipasto place. I had wall eye pike in clear sauce and my wife had rotini with vegetables and ground sausage. Both dishes were well prepared and enjoyable. We ate inside but the do have sidewalk dining, I will definitely return to this restaurant.
First, the good...the food was very good. We had a variety of items...eggplant parm was sliced thin, melted in your mouth and had the right amount of sauce. The pasta bolognese was delicious. The special of the night was pasta with a lemon sauce, sun-dried tomatoes and homemade pasta. I was told it was very good but would have been better if they had actually put in the sun-dried tomatoes. The special appetizer was delicious with cheese and fresh fig.
The desserts were very good.
Now for some of the hiccups in the evening....when the server brought the wine he couldn't tell the difference between the Riesling and Sauv Blanc so had us taste them and then trade glasses when we discovered we each had the wrong one (luckily we are best friends and didn't mind sharing a glass!). One of our party ordered a salad and he forgot to bring that. When asked if the cannoli had chocolate chips he said yes but it didn't have any. And, as I mentioned before, the special pasta dish was supposed to have sun-dried tomatoes and both of the orders didn't have any. Coffee was ordered and he didn't come around and ask if refills were needed.
I would try the restaurant again because the food was good but service needs some work.
