Vespucci Ristorante Italiano Ratings and Reviews
Vespucci is owned and operated by a husband and wife team who, both, are out front assuring fine friendly service. They feature recipes from Italy that add flavor and interest. The chicken and roasted potatoes is an example. It was cooked to perfection and gently herbed. Salads are tasty and colorful.
We enjoyed our visit last Sunday evening. Had the Caesar salad and the arugula salad; both were nicely dressed anchovies with the Caesar & a light refreshing dressing on the arugula. Our entrees were the veal scallopini and the lamb. Again, both were delicious and well presented. The owners are extremely welcoming and the unique artwork complements the interior. Definitely plan to return.
The food, the best Italian I've ever had! Portions were perfect. The price was what you'd expect, no surprise there. Service was impeccable. Being a small restaurant the noise level was a bit elevated, and the tables-for-two were a bit small, however, no smaller than at any other small restaurant and I didn't feel cramped.
Over all this is the best place to go if you want great Italian food, accompanied by great service.
YES! we will absolutely be back!
Charming, authentic modern Italian decor. Very friendly service. Excellent food. The gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce was perfect--not over sauced and with just the right note on the toasted pine nuts. The arugula salad with asparagus was also excellent--lightly blanched, peeled asparagus pieces added the right amount of crunch. Chianti was delicious!
Our third trip here, we brought along a friend (his first time) who was very impressed. Authentic Italian, everything is splendid. Special was a pork filet tenderloin-Wow!. Lamb chops were extra and the scallopini is always perfect. Enjoyed two of the chocolate desserts. Owners are personable and give each table consistent attention.
It is everything we expect from an Italian restaurant. The decor was tasteful and the restaurant is very clean. The food was very good. We order the Caesar salad, Calamari Fritti, PETRALE SOLE PICCATA, SALMON STUFFED WITH CRAB MEAT AND MUSHROOMS, SPAGHETTI ALLE VONGOLE. Everything was excellent. The owners were warm and welcoming. We really enjoyed our dinner experience at Vespucci.
Very glad we found Vespucci. Excellent food and service provided by the owners who are very involved in providing a quality experience. We enjoyed the rack of lamb and veal marsala, both excellent. Prices also were very reasonable with a good selection of wines.
The pride of the owners in the the culinary traditions of their respective families, is evident. The homeade pasta with pork sausage was incredibly delicious. The fish filet picata was light, fresh and aromatic.
Dessert is a must, with one of the best Tiaramisu recipes I have yet tasted...
Very traditional Italian food prepared to perfection based on family recipes from Manuela 's and Francesco's home in the southern Italian region of Calabria. The spectacular food is only topped by the couples hospitality. Whether you are a regular or there for the first time, Manuela and Francesco make you feel at home and part of the Family. I highly recommend the pasta dishes. All the sauces are made with fresh ingredients in traditional Italian fashion. My favorites are the Vongole, Puttanesca and Bolognese but all of them are worth trying. I highly recommend the Salmon Carpaccio and the Caprese Salad as starters. My friends have also raved about the Scaloppine Di Vitello and the Gnocchi Gorgonzola! You should definitely try it, I'll promise you will fall in love with this little gem in San Mateo! Grazie Mille!
After lunch on Saturday, I reluctantly leave this review because the restaurant currently is such a wonderful spot that I don't want a lot of people to "discover" it and ruin a good thing! Classic Italian food. A waiter who was professional, unobtrusive, and never made us feel rushed. A quiet space enabling easy conversation!!! Great people watching from window-side tables. One small criticism -- what's up with the tomato based sauce for the bread (instead of butter or olive oil)?
A great find. More than worth the Uber trip from an airport hotel. Francesco and Manuela, the owners are the front of the house. They are friendly and engaging. They take pride in their food. The cuisine is authentic southern Italian like your Nonna used to make. Authentic pastas and sauces with fresh seafood featured. Great calamari, I had the scallopine di vitello and my wife had the seafood risotto. Both were excellent. Sorry I can't give 6 or 7 stars.
Have been here several times before but this time the food was overall below what was encountered on previous visits. Felt like we were eating leftovers. Chicken Calabria dish was extremely dry as thighs should have been moist and tender and were presented with potatoes that were burnt looking and tasting like "leftovers". There were only two other couples in the restaurant when we left at the prime dinner hour. Although Francrsco and Manuela the H&W owners, are friendly it appeared they and one other staff person were only ones available in dinning room. This restaurant is in a very competitive dinning area and may be short lived if quality of food isn't upgraded. Several other restaurants in area at same time appeared bustling. Just my opinion as I am Italian and have Italian food and cook it myself with regularity. Have had tastier food for far less than the $280 bill (food/wine/tax/and generous 20% tip). May not go back. Will wait a year to see if reviews are like mine. They could have had a bad night but my feeling is not good.....
The service here is warm and from the heart - when you dine here, you feel like you're having dinner at a dear friend's home, and they are genuinely happy to welcome you. The food is fresh and delicious; nice portion sizes and authentic dishes. This is our go-to spot for date night.
What a wonderful find! We cannot wait to return and try some of the other dishes on the menu. The owners are absolutely charming, making sure that we were well taken care of, and that we were happy with our food. There were three of us, and we all started with the caprese salad- generous slices of tomato and mozzarella, and the basil oil remaining was sopped up with the bread for the table. We had the chicken dish (highly recommend it-generous portion and excellently seasoned), veal scallopine (so hard to find it nowadays) and gnocchi with a creamy pesto sauce (sauce was excellent and the gnocchi was light but with a slight chew). For dessert I got the panna cotta-another excellent choice. A perfect light ending to a great meal.
