The Apollo is a luxury 4-star hotel and its 35-cover restaurant combines a warm and relaxed atmosphere with impressive cooking that looks as good as it tastes. Why not start with the crab and lobster spring roll flavoured with a sweetcorn cream, and follow with tender lamb medallions served with Dauphinoise potatoes and a celeriac mash. Alternatively follow with pork cutlets with black pudding croquette and an English apple and sage sauce. For dessert finish with the delightful Baileys crème brûlée with an almond biscuit or the light carrot cake with a ginger mascarpone and cinnamon ice cream.

I was given some vouchers to use for this hotel so decided to take some friends for dinner , we were all surprised by how good the food was , we all had a 3 course meal and every dish was delightful , staff were professional and atentative and the bill a reasonable amount , thank you Vespers for a lovely evening!

we had a really nice evening at the apollo hotel in basingstoke. the starters were amazing, both of us were really impressed. the mains didnt quite live up to the same standards. unfortunately, the restaurant was really quiet and so the atmosphere was a bit dead... strangely, the waitress seemed completely unprepared for diners so a very mixed experience...

We visited Vespers after reading that it was one of the better restaurants in Basingstoke. We weren't disappointed. The food was good, with the pork belly strongly recommended. I found the scallops well presented and succulent; perhaps a little bland to taste. Desserts were also good and came with a glass of champagne, which was a very nice touch. The head waiter was professional and quite a character, and he added to our enjoyment of the evening. Worth a visit if you're in town.

Vespers Restaurant, Apollo Hotel, Basingstoke. A little gem in an otherwise colourless town. Friendly and attentive service from the young, French, Maitre d'. Excellent food - veal cutlet for me and sea bass with broad bean and mussel sauce for my partner. The dark chocolate basket filled with white chocolate mousse and strawberries is chocoholic heaven.

This is my 4th visit to Vespers in Basingstoke and once again the food was faultless. Nice atmosphere. Would like to particulary mention Vincenzo who looked after us for the evening. He was happy and always had a big smile on.

nicely appointed restaurant with excellent service. a muse bouche very good, starters were excellent, as was the home made bread but the main course was sadly disappointing.

Vespers @ Apollo Hotel in Basingstoke. Having not lived far from Basingstoke for the past 3 years, Vespers was new to me, and having realised that I've missed fantastic food for the past few years, makes me want to kick myself. Only two other diners in when my partner and I went. Food was beautifully cooked and presented, the Venison Terrine was to die for and my Pork Belly with Parsnip Puree was exquisite. Great wine list, plumped for Riebeek Cellars Pinotage 2005. Highly recommended.

Vespers at the Apollo Hotel in Basingstoke is a hidden gem. I am sure if more people knew about it, it would be busier. The food and service were fantastic. Vespers offer the finer touches, or example the bread rolls are particularly the blue cheese one are yum1 The pre appetiser is also always very tasty. This was my third visit and the only thing l would say was lacking were other customers. Great value, great tasting and well worth a visit.
