Risotto, Porcini Mushrooms
Poor service. Not very clean restaurant.
Our favorite restaurant downtown!!! We usually go as a couple, but brought a group of 8 this time, and our favorite waiter, Amit, and the amazing food were perfect as always . Don't miss the Spinach pear salad with bacon and gorgonzola or the sausage rapini pizza!!!
Our server was wonderful!
Great restaurant! The food, service and location are excellent!
Vespaio is always a good choice when attending something at Disney Hall or the rest of the Music Center. The menu is interesting and the food is always good if not exceptional. What is on issue is the service which can vary radically from one visit to the next. When it is good it is excellent, when not good it can be rather bad. On our most recent visit my companion ordered a glass of prosecco at the outset. It was delivered half an hour later, after I had finished my bowl of soup appetizer. After complaining he was eventually comped for it but one's meal shouldn't be ruined by such lack of service. His entree arrived about 10 minutes before mine as well. All very strange as the waiter could not have been more personable and pleasant. I hasten to add this is not a common experience but it, or similar, has occurred more than once.
Service was really slow. Other tables with more people than us were seated after us, but were paid and gone for 15 minutes before we left.
Lovely dining experience before seeing the LA Phil.
I was extremely surprised and disappointed with the, "very, very, "VERY" small portions of the dishes we selected. This was not what we expected. The portions were so small that I left the restaurant very hungry.
Ok. Not great. Noisy. Understaffed and probably I'll equipped to handle the theatre crush
This restaurant was a pleasant surprise. In looking for reservation ahead of a concert at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, many places were booked, I believe due to multiple events going on simultaneously in the area. However, this place had availability. Although the décor, actual menu construction, and seating is somewhat plain and simple, the food and service was excellent. Unfortunately were placed in a very crowded location in the restaurant. Multiple tables very close together which made it difficult for privacy, as well as waiters bumped into me several times trying to get to other tables. Calamari and Zuchini Appetizer was excellent. Waiter warned me that the main dish I chose was spicy, which I don't think it needed to be, but was still very good. My wife ordered the chicken and it was also very good. Apple crumb dessert was excellent. We will return next time we have a concert at the Walt Disney concert hall.
The food was great, the service even better, Not too expensive. We will go back.
Our food was delicious. The wait staff was terrific - very attentive!
The service was slow and lacking in charm and courteousness. The food was good. The ambiance was great. The price was fair.
For the high price, I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant. We came on a Saturday evening with reservations. Service was good. But it’s not super nice inside. We got seated next to the plants in the patio. The plants were just a bunch of pots thrown into this lifted cement area in the middle. The rack of lamb did not taste good. I couldn’t finish it. It was too gamey. The filet mignon was cooked almost well done when we asked for medium. Just overall for the price I wouldn’t recommend this place. Too expensive for just so so decor and not great food.
I’ve been to Vespaio many times before but Saturday was very disappointing. I ordered a Cape Cod but the food server didn’t even know what it was. I had to explain the ingredients to him and they still brought out a martini. The food took forever to come. The staff mixed up our bill with another table. It was just a sloppy experience overall.
Vespaio staff is warm and friendly. I always feel welcome when I eat here. The food and service are excellent.
It was great but the table next to us was so close it felt like we were on a double date.
Our order was forgotten. Even then it took a while to come. The hostess came by and asked how we were doing. We explained how the 3 tables next to us came in after us and were now eating yet we had no food or waiter. She kindly offered to comp us 50%.
The check reflected 10% comp. The food was mediocre at best. We were amongst the last to leave. I'll never go back.
Always consistent. Best place in the neighborhood.
We had a great meal and the wait staff was very attentive. The restaurant is nicely laid out and a great setting in DTLA. Looking forward to going back.
The salads were fresh and plentiful. The entrees were delicious and the wine was served at the perfect temperature. Our server was very attentive. I will return.
If you are craving Italian food in DTLA, go to Vespaio. The restaurant is beautiful, the service is great, and the food is delicious.
Very good food. Many menu choices. Did not order dessert because I have on previous occasions; and have been consistently disappointed with their desserts.
Reliable food and drink, caeuny tv h
The service was almost non-existent. Had to ask for menus, had to beg for dessert menus. We requested bread 3 times, it arrived after our entrees. They asked if we wanted Parmesan on our pasta, we did, it came 10 later. Had to wait 5 minutes to speak to the manager, as he didn’t seem to have time to talk with us. Will not be returning.
This restaurant is always a wonderful place to dine after a show.
I really like this restaurant. Service was a little slow but those things happen. We will return for sure!!
Love this place! The fact that I can get perfectly cooked gluten free pasta is a major plus. From the wine to the dessert it’s always a great experience!
This restaurant is a true disappointment despite being in a perfect location. The pizza was unremarkable at best—palatable and decent flavor but the crust was stale with no flavor. Salmon for main entree was also unremarkable—decent flavor but fish was overcooked and you could tell it was not fresh. Service was good at first but went downhill quickly. Water was never refilled the entire meal; appetizer plates weren’t cleared so there was no room to place the main course plates. Old martini/wine glasses never cleared.
Do yourself a favor and walk past this place and go to Otium instead.
Dinner prior to LA Phil performance. Service will be timely if you let them know you have a curtain time. Tonight was better than my last visit when service was woefully slow.
A group of seven for lunch. We had a delicious luncheon with good service and
excellent selection of dishes. One of our favorite restaurants central to music and
museum activities. Would highly recommend for lunch or dinner.
While the food and service are always very good, getting food from the kitchen can be a problem. We have been coming to Vespaio for years. Getting food was once a big problem, then it got better, now its a bit of a problem again.
Because the restaurant is right next to Disney concert hall and the Ahmanson, you’d think they’d be equipped to handle the pre-show crowds. But they seemed utterly overwhelmed with the number of people they had. Our reservation was for 6:30. We arrived at 6:15, and weren’t seated until 6:40. When I tried to order, I was told they could not substitute vegetables for the potatoes, and I would need to order vegetables separately, so I wound up having to order something else because I can’t eat potatoes. The waiter never checked on us once we had our food, and we had to ask for the check from the bus boy. Having said all that, at least we did get our food on time, which is more than I can say for the table next to us, who ordered their food at the same time we did, and only got it when we’d finished eating. I will never go here again. There are enough other pre-concert options nearby that can handle the crowds much better.
We dined at Vespaio pre-theater on a Tuesday. We have never seen the restaurant as busy -- people were lined up and trying to get in without reservations. The hostess did her best to keep order, and the staff went through Herculean efforts that night to serve everyone. Our server, John, also did a phenomenal job in taking care of us, despite being way over-taxed. We were out on time and even enjoyed the Bomboloni dessert (really fun and delish). We shared four dishes - the Burrata, Scallops, Artichoke Carpaccio and the Tagliatelle Verde. Everything came out well prepared and tasted exceedingly fresh. I would have preferred the steak in the Tagliatelle a less well done - just a preference. It was on the medium to well-side. And we would have preferred to have a quieter evening and table … but that couldn't be helped.
We had a concert to attend at 8:00 pm. Therefore, we made a reservation for 6:00 pm, arrived on time and were promptly seated. Obviously understaffed, everything took very long. We were not served our main course until 7:35, after we had advised our waiter we had to leave by 7:45 at the latest in order to get to the concert on time. The manager apologized and offered to comp our entrees. However, the restaurant advertises its proximity to the Walt Disney Concert Hall, and they should have been prepared for customers that had a concert commitment. It seems they assigned one waiter to our section of at least 8 tables, and must have been short staffed in the kitchen as well. We thought a reservation two hours before the start of the concert would be plenty of time to enjoy dinner before the show, but instead all was rushed at the end and made for a very disappointing dining experience.
The food was hot, fresh, and delicious. The service was quick, polite, and our server was very knowledgeable about the food and the specials. The ambience was quiet for a large restaurant and quite lovely.
Do not recommend and will not go back. We were asked if we wanted water instead of automatically being served water. This place is a bit on the pricy side, so this was a surprise to me. After ordering, we were asked if we wanted bread. We said yes and found a surprise $3.50 charge for it on the bill without ever being forewarned. I decided on one of the specials- an entree salad with arugula and scallops. Weird combo, but I figured I’d give it a try. I wanted a cup of minestrone but they only had a bowl size, so I got it. The $12 soup was like a vegetable soup with a watery tomato base. My mom makes MUCH better minestrone and she isn’t Italian. I also had to request Parmesan to put on top, because it wasn’t offered. The salad was actually decent. The service was decent (other than the aforementioned issues), but the ambiance was lacking.
Food was just ok
Valentines. The restaurant seatings were very cramp and didn’t provide that much privacy or intimacy with the layout! Basically, you’re literally a foot to foot and half from rubbing elbows with the people sitting on either side of you, thus my overall rating of a 4 stars.
Took 20 minutes to get water and a waiter to attend us. Only two waiters working the entire patio area - very understaffed and they didn’t look happy. Ordered a goat cheese roasted beet arugula salad that did not have dressing, and overdone scallops wrapped in burnt guanciale bacon for an appetizer. The main course was the veal costeletta chop which was hard and gamey, and overcooked pasta pappardelle Chianti with wild boar ragu - the ragu was fine but disappointed with the pasta. The only great thing was the desert- mousse and tiramisu - but ordered a coffee and espresso that never came but was charged for. Would not recommend this place for anyone that wants fine dining or Italian food. It was my wife’s birthday and I would not recommend for a special occasion. Felt like the kitchen was not tasting any of their food this evening.
