Bianca Truffle Cheese Pizza
I love coming here after either a play at the Music Center, a concert at the Disney concert Hall, a trip downtown to buy tickets or a visit to one of the museums. In this case we had been at the Disney concert Hall and I can’t imagine going anywhere else. I’ve been coming here for years
Waited 1 hour 20 mins after ordering food, would not recommend going prior to a show even if reservation is 2 hours in advance.
Great Italian, as in actual Italian, food. Good atmosphere and service, walking distance to LA Opera and Disney Hall.
Very close to Broad, Disney Theatre, Ahmanson .... make reservations and go early!!!
We had a 5:30 reservation for an 8 o’clock concert. The food was great. Between the two of us, we had a “special” mushroom soup and the branzino, and two other “specials,” a (sounds strange, but it was good) raw or smoked salmon salad with burrata, grape tomatoes and herbs and greens, and chilean sea bass over a bed of potato puree, with asparagus. For our two “mains,” the fish were perfectly cooked, and we ate all of it.
The problem was the service. Open table doesn't give enough space to express this fully, but our waiter didn't know the menu, had to be corrected on wines ordered by the glass. That would perhaps been amusing, but he didn't stop by for over 30 minutes after our main courses, by which time we'd given up hopes of dessert and coffee. We asked another waitperson to find him, he finally appeared, we asked for our check, he brought it, I immediately gave him my card, and then ensued a lot of running around from wait station to wait station with our card. No one came over to tell us what was going on. Finally, someone we flagged down, said there was a problem with their computer system. I said, can you just take our info and enter it later? I approached the host, who told me that wasn't her job. She said that the assistant manager, who never appeared, was working on it. Finally, we got the old-fashioned paper charge form and I signed it. Interestingly enough, we didn't see any one else leaving with problems with their cards. We had other cards with us, if that was the problem. I'll be watching to see how often, or if, this appears on that credit card.
Our waitress was fantastic. Food was great.
Great place before the theatre. Good food selections.
There's a great selection of dishes. The food was well-prepared (I especially appreciate not having to take the tails off of shrimp and having to do a lot of work to enjoy my seafood pasta), and the portions were adequate. Service was OK, but I had to ask multiple times to get bread for the cheese plate we shared, and I felt it was chintzy for them to charge extra for bread to go with the cheese plate. I enjoyed the meal for the most part, but did feel squeezed in, as most tables are pretty tightly-spaced together. One could obviously hear every word neighbors on either side were saying, and getting in and out of the table involved some maneuvering. Given the price point of this restaurant, one would hope one didn't need to be squeezed in like sardines.
Tables were very close together. It was very busy. Food was served very hot, which was appreciated.
Another very good lunch before the opera on Sunday at Vespaio. Their home made pastas are great and the salads. oleranThey had an extensive list of specials and made all requested adjustments for one member of our party who has dairy and wheat intolerance. He ha a very nice piece of fish over spinach. A very good wine list and very good service.
Vespaio is our go-to for great food, dessert, service, and ambience. We love Vespaio so much that it is our kitchen away from home :)
Came here before a show at Disney Concert Hall. Great food (has the scallops and burrata with eggplant which was phenomenal). Able to get in and out quickly to make the show - really good service.
Would have liked the seared tuna to have more flavor.
Carrot cake was very tasty, but could use a little less frosting.
The food was outstanding, though the service was slow, spotty, and not very good. And we ate outside very near to the street. I suggest that you eat inside if you are comfortable.
Exceptional food. Excellent, friendly service. Nice ambience and decor. Great location near to everything. When we asked for the music to be changed from dance music - they accommodated us!
We celebrated our daughters birthday on a Sunday evening with a small family party of 10. The staff was excellent and the food even better. Located near Disney Concert Hall, The Broad and MOCA.
Food was great and the service was below average-not attentive or very knowledgeable about the dishes or drinks.
One of my favorite spots DTLA. The olive trees — just outside the main lobby — are beautiful. I typically start with a well-blended Negroni. Yesterday evening, I enjoyed portions of the filet mignon and New York sirloin; both were excellent. Visit the Broad first and Vespaio, afterwards. You won’t be disappointed!
Food took forever and had to leave for a show - no time to finish
Great place to eat before the symphony or opera. Temperature was too cold in the restaurant. Service was very good.
I really like vespaio when the service is paced. We felt rushed, although we only orders entrees. The food was great. The hostess initially tried to seat us next to the bar. I’ve sat near the bar before and it can be deafening. I recommend sitting on the perimeter or on the patio if sits not too cold. I will continue to patronize vespaio when I attend cultural events nearby but not as a place to relax and slowly dine.
Birthday and opera night!
Food was delicious. Went there because my standby after a Walt Disney Concert Hall concert Kendall brasserie was closed. I'd go back for the dessert, The custard torta. Fabulous.
Lovely outdoor seating and good food right near the Broad museums and the Disney concert hall with valet parking!
We were going to the opera and requested fast service and got it! I had a special shrimp salad which was excellent and so attractively plated that a neighboring table inquired whether it was as good as it looked—it was! My guest had the minestrone which was loaded with fresh vegetables. We split the crisp pizza bread. Our service was so quick we even had time for desserts: the warm apple crumble with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce and the coconut cheesecake—both outstanding!
The food was superior. Some unique options which we thoroughly enjoyed. And the service was superb.
I was well received as a single diner, made to feel very welcome. Not having a huge appetite, I went with the soup of the day - a vegan friendly cauliflower soup - and the eggplant parmesan appetizer. Both were delicious. The soup was very flavorful and the portion was very large. The eggplant parmesan was perfect and was very much like what one would find in Rome. There were great selections for wines by the glass.
My dad has been dreaming about their rack of lamb all throughout covid. Thankfully lamb chops were a special that night so he finally got his lamb chops. V was terrific and so sweet to accommodate us. It was my son’s birthday and they brought him a yummy panda cotta. Service was great and was such a nice evening out.
One of the only places open for lunch in DTLA. It is just as good as it was prior to COIVD. Not only is the main food terrific and varied, but they have the best desserts around.
Great food and great service.
We've been to Vespaio a number of times, but truthfully, only when OTIUM is not available to us. It's very convenient to Disney Hall. We've enjoyed the food there before. Not great, but good. This time, not so much. We went for lunch. My wife had the Mediterranean fish (Orata?) and it was very overcooked and dry. It came with a tomato dish on the side. It was okay. She also ordered the roasted Brussels sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower. It was also over roasted and a bit tasteless. I had the linguini with clams which was good, but not great. I had this same dish a few days ago at another restaurant and it was amazing, so I was very disappointed. Not enough garlic and the sauce was very bland. The only good thing was the dessert. It was listed as a coconut cheesecake/sponge cake. Not really too much on the cheesecake side, but it was very tasty. I had a cappuccino to go along with it and it was also good. When the bill came, I shuddered. Expensive. As an example, the bill at OTIUM is much higher and I don't mind because I've had a great meal and it feels worth it. Not so much here as Vespaio. We'll probably go there again, just because of the convenience, but I'll order more carefully.
Our waitress was struggling with 8 tables that were all seated within 15 minutes of each other. TIP: if there is an 11:00 am Friday concert at WDCH don’t go until 2:00pm or be there @11:45am. When the concert lets out about 1:00 pm it’s a completely different experience.
The asparagus soup had been boiled.
The fish of the day was excellent.
The Cosmopolitan tasted like fruit juice.
Before COVID 19 we ate there once a week ( not Friday). They may get back to being good; right now everyone is rushed including the cook
Along with out of town guests we had lunch at Vespaio after a matinee concert at Disney Hall. The friends were totally delighted with all aspects of the restaurant,
The food was delicious and this time we stuck around for coffee and desert, chatting away as though time didn't matter. The service was good but where there were a few glitches, there were apologies another pour of prosecco. All was good and the DC guests were delighted!
Very good service, excellent food, comfortable and recommend.
We had a great time and felt very comfortable. Enjoyed everything
Wonderful experience. Great food and service
Reasonably priced outstanding food, short walking distance from Disney Concert Hall.
Vespaio has a way to go before it is anything like it used to be 2 years ago.
1. everyone who works there should know how to set a table. The forks go on the left and the knives go on the right. My five year old grand child knows that
2. The waiter should understand how to divide the bill among 4 people.
3. Too many menu options were not available
4. The risotto was much too salty and not creamy.
Come on Vespaio, you used to be our DTLA favorite. We'll give you another shot.
Before opera dining.
Dined here prior to taking in a show at the Opera (and the venue was conveniently situated about a 5 minute walk from parking). Arrived and found the restaurant had a B health rating and smelled strongly of fish. Staff was friendly, if in a bit of a hurry to take our order. Menus were paper and badly crumpled. Portions were large but food was very unremarkable for what we paid (a pizza Bianca with truffle cheese proves to be a medium/large cheese pizza with no sauce, oil or garlic to speak of, tasting only very mildly of truffle; still stranger was a bruschetta with prosciutto, which proved to be three tiny and tasteless bruschetta pieces with a massive pile of equally unimpressive prosciutto piled haphazardly next to it on a cutting board). Better food is to be had elsewhere at a fraction of the price. Noise level was fine and we were seated at an intimate table in a charming patio area. All told, a middling dining experience; consider only if convenience is your highest priority prior to a night at the theatre.
