After several visits to Vespaio the food continues to be ordinary despite trying new menu items each time. There must be something outstanding on the menu that I haven't found yet but I'm getting tired of trying. Disappointing since the number of restaurants within convenient walking distance of the performance venues is limited. Maybe I'll try the food trucks parked on Grand next time.
We had dinner before a show at the music center. We shared the tuna tartare appetizer and split a small salad. The branzino fish special was cooked perfectly and came with spinach. We added some roasted potatoes with rosemary. Perfect for two...of course with a couple martinis.
We arrived on time for a 6:15 reservation before an 8:00 performance at the Disney. By 6:45 we had not been seated and the host could give no indication of when we might be, so we left. Another diner, similarly unhappy at the wait after making a reservation, said she eats here regularly and has never had such a delay. Would love to have tried their cuisine as we saw lots of yummy looking food go by on trays, but once burned is twice shy.
November is the time at Vespaio for their white truffle dishes! Wow I had a truffle lasagna that was melt in your mouth great!
We had a reservation for 8. Four of us arrived and had to wait to be seated. We waited for the other couples. Finally, after a 15 minute wait we called one of the couples. They were in a the restaurant seated at another table. They were told they were the first to arrive. Finally all 8 of us were seated at the same table.
We ordered food. After a while, the manager came over to say that they had run out of one of the items ordered. They could not have known this when the order was placed?
We ordered eggplant parmesan and seafood pasta. The eggplant parmesan came in a very hot metal dish. But the food was warm, but not super hot. It looked as if they put the previously prepared dish on the metal plate which was heated to make it seem as if the dish was baked in the metal plate. The seafood past dish was tasty, but there were two cold pasta spots. It appeared that the seafood and sauce was spread over cold pasta. The pasta should have been freshly cooked to be piping hot. It was not.
Very good food. Upbeat and competent service.
Great place to dine prior to going to the concert. The service was excellent, the portions were good, and we were able to arrive at our concert in plenty of time.
Vespaio is the perfect dinner spot before a concert at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The food is excellent with a large menu selection, service impeccable and ambiance just right. It is a short walk to the concert hall after dinner so no need to rush through your meal. I highly recommend Vespaio.
We were running late for the theater. They hurried our dinner so we made it on time. The food and service were excellent. Highly recommended for pre-theater dining. Thank you for the excellent experience !!
Dinner at Vespaio is always a reliably enjoyable pre-show treat. Professional servers make sure you are on your way to meet the curtain time, but don't make feel rushed. Every dish I have had has always been well prepared.
We ordered risotto, which was not tasty at all and looked like from a Lean Cuisine packet. Given the price (nearly $30) the value was not good.
Had a lovely dinner here before the the symphony. The risotto was excellent.
I love the restaurant and food. However, we sat out on the patio and it was warm. No fans were on. Most of all, our waiter forgot about us. He never came back to offer us another round of drinks. One of the guest had asked to sample taste of some wine and he NEVER brought it. Nice waiter, but forgot us.
One of my very favorites!! Excellent food and service!
The food was scrumptious and fresh and the service was warm and welcoming, and very efficient. We had to be to the theater and we made it with time to spare. We will definitely go back.
Excellent pre-theater experience! Our table was ready, comfortable ambience, great beverage selection and wonderful dinner entrees to choose from. Our server was attentive!
Excellent food. The place can be quite noisy on a weekend night and the tables are spaced pretty close together making private conversation difficult. The staff is well trained and highly attentive. Multiple people were stopping by periodically to refill water and make sure we had everything we needed.
REstaurant was crowded, servers were trying their best but overwhelmed preceding a concert evening and a theater evening in nearby Disney Hall and Music Center ...I felt it was overpriced for what we had - $50 for a pizza and a sald appetizer, shared.
Been here several times. This time, the waitstaff was a little slow getting to us and it wasn't super crowded, but regular crowded, but the food was excellent. Always is.
Our second dining experience to Vespairo. This was a bit disappointing compared to first visit. Granted the restaurant was very busy and there was an obvious effort to turn a lot of tables. Dishes were good but nothing memorable. A bit underwhelming at this price point. Service was slow and less that attentive. Drinks took forever as did the request for a second glass of wine. In his defense, our waiter was wonderful but dealing with the reality that he was overwhelmed with the number of tables he was serving. Even so, it is a beautiful restaurant in a wonderful location with a pleasing ambiance.
Location was quite confusing . Place was empty with few people
Food was fine
My friend and I sat a the bar and ended up staying there for dinner since the vantage point (Monday night football) and the service (from Maria) were so good! :-)
The food was very good. Our party had the branzino, salmon, and lamb shank. My only criticism was with my Martini on the rocks, which arrived with ice chips instead of cubes, and was already watered down when it arrived. My wife’s Old Fashioned arrived with one large ice cube and was fine. What gives? I expect better for $15-$17 per drink.
Convenient location. Close to the Broad and Music Center complex. A bit overpriced.
Pizzas and pastas are excellent. So in the calamari salad. They seem to keep on getting better. If you haven't been there in a while check them out again. Great spot for pre concert / theater dinner. Check out the Happy Hour too.
A good place to go before a concert or the theater.
Dined with friend before a show at Ahmanson. It was a good experience—not amazing but no complaints.
Birthday dinner celebration. Every dish was wonderfully presented and delicious! The cocktails were superb too. We thoroughly enjoyed it and all party said the would recommend and return.
I'd recommend it but with some caveats. My most recent experience was disappointing. The pasta I orderd -- garganelli with seafood -- was not even warm, a bit lean on seafood, and the shrimp I was told it would have was no where to be seen. Given that I was hosting this lunch, a business lunch, I could hardly send it back.
Service was, well, sufficient, but hardly the kind of service I would tell colleagues or friends about.
Overall it was outstanding. Great service, yummy food, lovely ambiance. Highly recommend this place
The food was good. Service could have been much better.
Hugo was as good as ever. Always special for us. Keep up the good work!
Excellent service and high attention to detail.
We have been to Vespaio many times. The food was excellent! The service on our last visit was a bit slow due to multiple events happening in the area. The waiter was very apologetic for the slow service. We may need to allow for more time on our next visit.
the food was delicious and the got us in and out quickly to get to the theater. It is expensive for the type of food and we each ordered a glass of wine without looking at a wine list and the very small pour was $16 each!! That is outrageous in my opinion....I would eat at Vespaio again but I will make sure to ask how much the glass of wine is!!
Nice place to dine before going to a concert or show.
Due to traffic, we arrived late & needed to get out in time for Curtain. Service was excellent.
We enjoyed an early dinner before going to the Ahmanson Theater. We had a party of six and were able to sit on the patio. It is actually and enclosed patio and was very pleasant. 2 people got pizza and enjoyed it vey much, 1 person got a special ragu with homemade past and loved it. I got a special that had homemade pasta with mushrooms and truffles, and I loved it. The only person who was not happy with her choice was someone who got the asparagus and shrimp risotto. It didn't have much flavor. They are not shy on their prices, but it was a great meal overall.
Great spot to eat before seeing something at the Music Center. Food was good and the atmosphere is lively.
