Everything was excellent, except for the beginning. We checked in when we arrived. They had our reservation, but forgot to write our name on the list. So, after getting by passed by many guests I checked the list, and if I hadn’t pointed out our name was missing, we would never have been called.
Our waiter was incredibly slow, got our drink order wrong, and after offering us bread for the table, completely forgot about it until the end of the meal. My chicken was okay but the potatoes were cold. Very noisy. Went because of a coupon, but won't go back.
Our second time having dinner there. Our server and service in general was exceptional. Very attentive without being annoying.
Great decor and atmosphere. Good wine list although I suggest the restaurant consider stocking a non-alcohol wine for those wishing an alternative.
Food is delicious.
Not too loud, but we do tend to dine early. The place was packed when we left about 7:00.
There was a big party in the front room so very loud and squished in but food is always good and kitchen is always great about switching things due to allergies.
Excellent for pre-concert dinner. Good range of items and good, prompt service.
Tables too close together... claustrophobic
Serving staff was lovely and attentive.
The veal chop was tasty but a lot of gristle so few meaty bites
Great food and service always!
Delicious food! And so close to all the downtown venues. We had a concert to get to right after dinner, and all went smoothly. The service wasn’t quite as attentive once the place got crowded, but it was nothing that was irritating or prevented us from getting out of there on time. Would definitely go there again!
The food was great and best of all the service. No complains!
Good place for a nice meal before a show. Very busy right before a performance, empties out during performances.
We were seated without menus. I had to go ask after 5 minutes. After that, no one came to even greet us for 15 full minutes. I almost walked out. A manager at front of house was apologetic and tried to help. But then it was just confusing because at some point two people were fetching water and drinks.
The table wobbled. My husband had to keep his foot anchoring down the base for the whole meal. The chairs were incredibly uncomfortable, they were like folding directors chairs. We were tightly seated inches from someone else to our right (felt like we were dining with them) and a wall to our left. My fork had a broken tine, bent outward. Thankfully I noticed that prior to sticking it into my mouth!
Our food finally came out and was given to the table next to us. The manager/front of house woman gave our food to them and when someone from waitstaff corrected the action - they just picked up the plates and awkwardly handed them to us after we just watched our dishes served to our neighbors. Awkward for the neighboring table as well.
All in all, it was a terrible experience with one thing after another going wrong, and I will not be giving my business to this restaurant again.
We frequent Vespaio before going to the theatre. It is conveniently close and the food is excellent. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is very energetic.
Service and food are always top notch. So nice to have such a reliably good restaurant just steps from Disney and the Music Center.
Alway goid food and service
Great food. Staff friendly.
The delicious food here is consistently, reliably outstanding and one of my favorite restaurants when downtown. My native Italian friend raved, as have first generation Italian Americans to whom I’ve recommended Vespaio. The food is always excellent.
Service this time was appreciatively nearly flawless as the obviously Italian native was impeccable in his friendly attentiveness without being intrusive - such a relief in this town where wait staff introduce themselves by name and continually interrupt conversations with their own priorities. This young gentleman was excellent. Sadly near the end of our meal a waitress injected herself into the once perfect flow, unceremoniously “checking in” and asking if we wanted to see the dessert menus - we were still eating our entrées. Our kind waiter had not told us he was leaving so I was surprised and inquired if he had left. She gave a rather incomprehensible answer then left, but not before taking my friend’s just finished dinner plate - whilst I was still eating. So sterling service was bludgeoned with pot metal of average mediocrity by an intrusive server without an ounce of grace, intuition or sense of protocol about serving guests in a fine establishment. She grossly interrupted a further time but was finally displaced by our original server who professionally acknowledged our quiet displeasure and smartly made up for her unfortunate, insensitive actions with his own grace and sense of humor. As a former restaurant owner and waitress I know the importance of good service and the style appropriate to setting. This waitress was not properly trained for her restaurant. She so jarred the end of our heretofore pleasant meal that despite our first waiter’s deft handling of the situation, we preferred to create distance and have dessert elsewhere. One might guess the waitress was out to sabotage the sales of the waiter...
Service was extremely slow. We waited almost 30 minutes after placing our order for the wine before it was brought to the table. The rest of the evening went about the same. Super slow to get the food out. Super slow for the bill to finally arrive.
We were very late for our reservation due to traffic and the hostess was very accommodating and nice about making sure that we would be seated timely and not be late for the performance we were attending. The food was very good and the staff was very pleasant.
Food was very good. However, service was lacking. Had informed server that we had a curtain to catch at the music center and needed to leave in about an hour and 10 minutes. Was told it would not be a problem. Dinners arrived about an hour later. No time for desert. Not attentive during wait time as far as refresh waters and bringing drinks. To bad since food was very good. Staffing may be the problem.
Excellent service and absolutely delicious food. The staff was so friendly, not pretentious, and very attentive. We definitely want to come back!
An ideal lunch spot for visitors to The Broad Museum. Vespaio offers a varied menu - something for everyone. The food is fresh and tasty, the portions are good, but service was lackluster this time. In the past it was much more attentive.
Wonderfully created authentic Italian cuisine. Risotto was amazing as was the roast chicken. Authentic Northern Italian. No gimmicks. Pricey but no worse than other of 5he nicer places. Good for pre-symphony or pre-Ahmanson events.
After several visits to Vespaio the food continues to be ordinary despite trying new menu items each time. There must be something outstanding on the menu that I haven't found yet but I'm getting tired of trying. Disappointing since the number of restaurants within convenient walking distance of the performance venues is limited. Maybe I'll try the food trucks parked on Grand next time.
We had dinner before a show at the music center. We shared the tuna tartare appetizer and split a small salad. The branzino fish special was cooked perfectly and came with spinach. We added some roasted potatoes with rosemary. Perfect for two...of course with a couple martinis.
Nice table on patio. Delicious food - pear gorgonzola pizza and lobster gnocchi. Very good service. 2 blocks from Music Center Complex. Will definitely return!
We arrived on time for a 6:15 reservation before an 8:00 performance at the Disney. By 6:45 we had not been seated and the host could give no indication of when we might be, so we left. Another diner, similarly unhappy at the wait after making a reservation, said she eats here regularly and has never had such a delay. Would love to have tried their cuisine as we saw lots of yummy looking food go by on trays, but once burned is twice shy.
November is the time at Vespaio for their white truffle dishes! Wow I had a truffle lasagna that was melt in your mouth great!
We had a reservation for 8. Four of us arrived and had to wait to be seated. We waited for the other couples. Finally, after a 15 minute wait we called one of the couples. They were in a the restaurant seated at another table. They were told they were the first to arrive. Finally all 8 of us were seated at the same table.
We ordered food. After a while, the manager came over to say that they had run out of one of the items ordered. They could not have known this when the order was placed?
We ordered eggplant parmesan and seafood pasta. The eggplant parmesan came in a very hot metal dish. But the food was warm, but not super hot. It looked as if they put the previously prepared dish on the metal plate which was heated to make it seem as if the dish was baked in the metal plate. The seafood past dish was tasty, but there were two cold pasta spots. It appeared that the seafood and sauce was spread over cold pasta. The pasta should have been freshly cooked to be piping hot. It was not.
Very good food. Upbeat and competent service.
Great place to dine prior to going to the concert. The service was excellent, the portions were good, and we were able to arrive at our concert in plenty of time.
Vespaio is the perfect dinner spot before a concert at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The food is excellent with a large menu selection, service impeccable and ambiance just right. It is a short walk to the concert hall after dinner so no need to rush through your meal. I highly recommend Vespaio.
We were running late for the theater. They hurried our dinner so we made it on time. The food and service were excellent. Highly recommended for pre-theater dining. Thank you for the excellent experience !!
Dinner at Vespaio is always a reliably enjoyable pre-show treat. Professional servers make sure you are on your way to meet the curtain time, but don't make feel rushed. Every dish I have had has always been well prepared.
We ordered risotto, which was not tasty at all and looked like from a Lean Cuisine packet. Given the price (nearly $30) the value was not good.
Had a lovely dinner here before the the symphony. The risotto was excellent.
I love the restaurant and food. However, we sat out on the patio and it was warm. No fans were on. Most of all, our waiter forgot about us. He never came back to offer us another round of drinks. One of the guest had asked to sample taste of some wine and he NEVER brought it. Nice waiter, but forgot us.
One of my very favorites!! Excellent food and service!
The food was scrumptious and fresh and the service was warm and welcoming, and very efficient. We had to be to the theater and we made it with time to spare. We will definitely go back.
