I was disappointed when two of the four of us tried to order your special which was the trout and learned that you were out of trout. The salmon was ok.
Took a friend to dinner so we could enjoy a special dinner and REALLY TALK. The service was great, and I lived the risotto. Many thanks. We will return.
I was amazed at the welcome and warmth of the staff from the hostess to the waiter to the woman that served the wine.
I was early for my reservation, the rest of my party was late and after being seated immediately, the level of service was wildly good.
The food is always good!
Seat at the bar, service & food was amazing!
Perfect prescient experience!
Vespaio has super-delicious food, attentive waitstaff, and a great vibe. Two thumbs up!
Every dish was better than the last.
Delicious as always, accompanied with excellent, professional service.
We went pre-concert, service was friendly, prompt and understanding of our timeline. The food was delicious. Very convenient to Disney Concert Hall.
This was a perfect choice before the LA philharmonic's presentation. Delicious food (possibly the best pork belly I have ever had), and delicious drinks. The restaurant was gorgeous.
We had a very nice pre-LAPO meal. The appetizers, pasta and dessert were great for all. The absolute hit of the night was the risotto with beef tenderloin au jus. The only less than spectacular item was the caprese salad. But it is January, so tomatoes aren’t exactly prime. Perhaps some balsamic vinegar could have saved the day.
Vespaio is conveniently located in Downtown LA, and is walking distance from the Disney Concert Hall and Music Center. The food and service were good. The space is very limited, so my friend and I sat at a table for 2 and we were very close to fellow diners. I could pretty much listen to their entire conversations. They are very busy before a performance at one of the aforementioned venues, and they do manage to bring dishes to the table promptly and nicely arrange the dishes on a small space.
Atmosphere was great but food was disappointing. Maybe just the choices we made weren’t there focus but still. Was on a date night - our food came out slowly and was behind the table beside us who came in at least 15+ minutes after us.
Artichoke salad was excellent, half-chicken was good but the breast was dry. Potatoes very good.
Pasta was overcooked.
Service was really slow.
Girl at the reception was not friendly and welcoming especially if you condider it was New year's Eve!
We went there for New Years Eve. The atmosphere was excellent with balloons everywhere. However, the food was only mediocre. Our fish was tasty but overcooked, and our risotto and spinach were kind of blah. Prices were a bit high for blah food.
This place is a joke. Only one waitress and so unprofessional. Horrible experience
Service: The wait staff is extremely shorthanded. In fact, I only saw 1 waiter, and the restaurant is quite large. We waited about 15 minutes before our waiter came by, and another 10 to get our wines opened. Dinner lasted 3 hours and most of it was just waiting, and waiting, and waiting..
Food: Food wasn't bad, but I've had better. Especially for that price point.
The space: We were seated in the back near the cafe. That section of the restaurant was very different from the rest of the restaurant, and it kinda had an Eataly/pantry room-esque vibe.
We were there on New Years Eve and sat in the patio area. The food and service were excellent. The reason I did not give an overall 5 stars is because the music was so incredibly loud that our party had to yell to hear anything. I asked twice that the music be turned down and was told it would be, but nothing changed.
The only issue I had was with the corkage fee of $50.00. The food was excellent, as was the service. We would absolutely dine there again.
so delicious. try the truffle pizza... all the pizzas are divine. great vibe and perfect for pre show dining very convenient. go!! I love it
The food was excellent but the service was extremely slow. We gave ourselves two hours to dine and we did not get the dessert.
Lunch New Year’s Eve: restaurant was decorated with balloons etc so it gave off a Holiday vibe. We were greeted and seated immediately. Our server came to our table ( comfy booth) informed us of the specials and gave us time to look over the menu. We asked a few questions and he knew the answers without having to say “I have to check with the kitchen”. He also made a few recommendations so that was helpful.
Btw- the house cocktail is incredible and could go from brunch to lunch to dinner (I had two).
My wife and I had fresh house made pasta dishes. Mine with octopus was outstanding. This restaurant as a varied menu so it would be great for a group as everyone could find something yummy for their own taste.
We will be back and hope that it is livelier next time. The vibe was quiet and mellow but that was probably due to the lunch time frame on a Holiday.
Always a great dining experience! The food and service are consistently of great quality. We always find dining here a warm, friendly, relaxing experience. One of our most favorite dining locations in DTLA!
We all enjoyed our meals. A little too much salt in the salad dressing and fish for our group...but, not enough to spoil our delicious meals. Service and ambiance were exceptional. We will return and will let our server know less salt is better for us.
This restaurant is fabulous! Celebrated my son's birthday dinner here prior to going to the ballet. We started with a salad of cucumber, tomato, red onion on butter leaf lettuce drizzled with oil olive and mozzarella cheese. It was on the chef's specials and highly recommend sharing. My son ordered a pasta dish with ragu that was very tasty, I order the salmon that was made to perfection. Finally my son was presented with a yummy panna cotta desert that topped off the night. Ambiance is beautiful, we sat in the tented area at front of restaurant, was very quiet. Waiter know we had a reservation at the ballet and timed the courses perfectly. Also our wines were exceptional, both from Italy!
Highly recommend this restaurant and I plan to visit again in the near future!
We had the most wonderful experience at this restaurant. They gave us a choice of tables and every server that came to our table had a big smile on their face you genuinely felt that they care about you. My husband had the branzino which he said was probably the best one he has had in a restaurant. I had the lamb chops they said they were eight chops but that they were tiny but I still could not finish them the salad was outstanding. We also had the fried calamari which had a very light crust and no grease!I can’t say enough about the quality of the food and the service. We were going to the music center and told them that and they made sure that we were out in time I can’t wait to go back!
Real Italian food, nice selection of wine. Great recommendations from our server, she was knowledgeable.
Food was good but not great and definitely not worth the price. Service was sub par but maybe it was just our waitress. She seemed annoyed at us and seemed in a hurry each time she was with us. Would not return again.
Quick service for theater goers. Food is excellent.
My husband and I had dinner at Vespaio's after a theater performance. I was very pleased with the service and the environment. Just wonderful. I ordered lamb chops which were perfectly cooked- to my specifications. My husband ordered a pasta dish which he loved.
I had gone to this restaurant for lunch a few times and I did not think it was something special; however, their dinner selections were wonderful. We will be coming back.
Incredible drinks, The Vespaio. Delicious food. Service was good but had to wait for waiter to finish a lengthy conversation with another customer before he would take our payment.
Pre-concert dinner was effortless and fabulous!
We arrived at 5:30 and the restaurant wasn't very busy. Even so, one item we ordered was forgotten until we reminded the waiter. The food was good, but nothing special. This restaurant is close to Music Center venues so it convenient for before theater or concert dining.
First, service was very slow, despite that our party was among the first to arrive. Second, our party's order was mixed up with another tables so was never processed until we asked about it. Tables that arrived after us were serviced and done before we even saw our appetizers! Finally, they brought the wrong dish to one guest in our party. They did, however, offer complimentary desserts to make up for the errors. Despite the wait, the food was excellent. I should note that there were several large groups celebrating the holidays, so this may have been a contributing factor in the errors.
I don't have a problem with the quality of the food, ambiance, etc. What was disappointing about this visit/6:30 PM Tuesday Dec. 17 reservation for two people (prior to 8:00 PM curtain at the Music Center) was that we were stuck in holiday traffic. We called the host/maître d'; we shared that we estimated we were 15 minutes out, and would be there ASAP. We were very graciously told they would hold a table for us and to drive safely. We arrived at 6:50 PM and were told we would be seated as soon as possible. By 7:15 PM, when no table/seating was in sight, it didn't appear we'd be seated for another couple of minutes, making us question whether we'd be able to order, eat, pay the bill and be in our Ahmanson Theater seats by 8 PM. All this while, two tables for two were clearly visible, but we were told they were being held for a party of 7 that would be arriving soon; that space would possibly be reconfigured to accommodate them. That party hadn't shown when we left, and the tables were still open and empty. We decided to take our chances elsewhere, and instead had a hasty meal at Kendall's where although they were also busy, were able to offer us seats. My advice -- please let late patrons know that the chances of being seated are not good if they are running 15-20 minute. I would have preferred to be told upfront that would couldn't be accommodated, so we'd been able to alter plans immediately, rather than wait and be rushing for an alternative.
The restaurant was very accommodating as we were late due to incredibly heavy traffic and we needed to get to the Disney Hall for the scheduled performance. We were able to order by phone ahead so the food was ready and they made extra effort to still make it a pleasant experience. Food was very good.
Excellent service, food and variety. Love the rack of lamb to share and although crowded, chef agreed to prepare at lunch (only on dinner menu). Thank you!
This is our go to when attending the Opera. Location and amazing food is the draw. The Sunday evening we went the restaurant was overcrowded due to multiple performances. We did have a wait, even with a reservation, but the wonderful staff and excellent food more than made up for the wait. Cannot wait to go back!
We had a post-performance reservation for 5:30pm and were seated in a reasonable amount of time, but the front door was PACKED with people, making the job of the staff more challenging.
I am horrible with names, but the manager was great. She came to us a few times to check on us, and at the end I had a nice 2-3 minute conversation with her, after which she gave me her card. My wife has it, so that I don't lose the info.
The food was excellent, the ambiance was great, and the service was better than the first two characteristics I mentioned.
We drive over 2 hours to go to performances at the Music Center, and Vespaio is one of our most frequent 'go to' restaurants. It will continue to be so.
This IS a nice restaurant, and the prices are not low. However, I believe that the price per dish is appropriate. If we wanted lower cost, we wouldn't go to a fine dining restaurant, but a casual dining restaurant- like cheesecake assembly place, or the claim robber chains.
If you understand this and like good quality pasta, this is a nice place to share a meal with people you love, or want to.
Thank you Vespaio! And, I apologize for forgetting your name [manager]- which saddens me because you remembered mine at the end of the evening, and we weren't a table of complainers.
We waited for 30 minutes after our reservation time, and did not have much time left to eat before the performance we came to see at Disney Hall. I had the daily soup (zucchini) which was fine, and an arugula and artichoke heart salad which was so overdressed it was practically wilted.
