Wouldn’t come here again terrible service
Meals taste like lean cuisine minus’s seasoning
52 minutes never received our entry thought got our burnt
Pizza bread cold and waiter had the audacity to lie and wasn’t
Good at it claimed i wanted after my appetizer yeah cuz it takes 52 minutes to eat a small pasta between three people ridiculous
Just stay away
We found Vespaio on the Ahmanson Theater website as a pre-theater dining recommendation. The restaurant is a very easy walk from the Music Center, and the service was prompt and efficient. The setting is lovely. Most importantly, the food is excellent. My daughter loves grilled octopus, which I usually don't, but we ordered it as an appetizer. It arrived at the table smelling delicious, garnished with green beans, potatoes and olives. I tried a small piece, and it was delicious. For entrees we ordered a pear and gorganzola pizza and potato gnocchi with lobster. Loved both of them. I managed to save some room for dessert (my favorite food group), and ordered bombolini, which are donuts that are served with Nutella and a lemon flavored sauce for dipping. Glad I didn't pass that up. We will definitely be returning to Vespaio. It's right next door to the Broad, and across the street from MOCA, so I'll be looking for reasons to visit the museums as an excuse to return.
excellent food and service. Well-done! Have been there before and had great meals, will come again!
We lunched at Vespaio on a Sunday. We went for the brunch at 11 am, but it was not being served that day. So, we ordered from the lunch menu. The service was great, and the staff worked well as a team. The chicken dish was excellent, and my partner, more than once, mentioned how much he enjoyed it. I ordered a lamb panini. It was rather disappointing, with a layer of thinly sliced lamb that turned up at the corners due to the dry nature of it. It might have been better to use half the bread and pile up the lamb, after ensuring that it was fresh. The chips served with it were soggy. So, all-in-all, I could not recommend this item on the menu. I snacked on the delicious potatoes that came with my partner's chicken. But, I have dined here once before, and my meal was very good. So, it could have been a one-off.
This is a great staple and for the location a great value. True authentic and yummy
This was our first time dining at Vespaio. It will not be the last! From the appetizers, to dessert, everything was fabulous! Our waiter, Amir, was incredible. I am recommending this restaurant to all our friends.
We had supper here before seeing something in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. It is only a 2 minute walk away and out meal was delicious. We had yummy fish, really tasty salads and amazing pastas. The service was super friendly and quick, and they have a great bar and wine list too. Highly recommended!
The ambience is great. The food is over priced and not so great. Appetizers are great and also the cheese cake is to die for and the service is like any other restaurant.
Excellent menu. Had seafood spaghetti off the menu. Bread was delicious. Tiramisu superb. Sat outside. Quite comfortable. Will return another time.
Our first experience and we cannot wait to return. The service was beyond great without being on top of you. Wine list is extensive-food is creative fresh Italian-with lots of options. Great experience
So impressed with the busboys and other staff who actively supported the busy waiters. it was an opening night so the place was busy
Really good food, excellent service, beautiful atmosphere and an easy walk from the Music Center!
Vespaio is our go to spot before we go to the theatre. The last time we visited we sat in a little side area. I was quiet and less crowded than the other areas. The branzino and cod were made to perfection! The service was excellent. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and made some excellent suggestions.
This a great place to meet before going to the theater or museums. The service is prompt and professional. The menu is varied with a wide variety of offerings catering to a large and small appetite.
I've been a fan since they opened and have dined here a least every other month.
The food and table service were good. When we entered, however, we were taken to the patio where there were a number of small booths available. We asked to be seated in one. Our hostess said these needed to be saved for parties of four. We were seated at a table, then watched, over the course of our meal, as each of these small booths were given to couples, as opposed to parties of four. So there was that. The food was great, our waiter friendly. I'd give our hostess a failing grade.
My pasta with seafood was delicious. The service was great and they got us to the theater in plenty of time without making us feel rushed.
Sunday brunch at 11:30am, and no bagels. Wow! No beet and goat cheese salad, because no goat cheese. Wait staff is nice, if a little inexperienced. Had to keep reminding the waitress that we needed to get served because of theater tix. Kinda disappointing.
my octopus was wonderful! But my husband's (special) salad with squid was overly salty (maybe the dressing on the greens was too salty), and my pasta bolognaise was way too greasy.
Food was good, but service was terrible and unbelievably slow.
Totally disappointing. Have been frequently for lunch which is fine. Thought everything about dinner was poor. Inattentive service, wrong orders, marginal food. Just sort of sad. I guess it is just poor management. The food was especially poor.
Great happy hour menu, delicious and outstanding value!
Went pre theatre. Sat at the bar. Great price for Happy hours and Bar menu.
Staff friendly and delivery of order timely. Only remark was that the smoked salmon way too smokey, and I eat a lot of smoke salmon. Would go back.
Our service was great! John was professional, very knowledgeable of the ingredients of each selection, we requested and got a booth and the receptionist and the assistant servers were very prompt in fulfilling our requests. All the breads are great. We will return.
We dined before a performance at the Music Center. You would think 1 1/2 hours would be enough time, however, service was slow, our table was not served bread like the other tables around us were, diners seated after us were served before us even though we let them know we had a performance to attend. The food was not on par for the price. There was not a lot of flavor happening. We ordered the scallop appetizer which was the best thing we ordered. We also ordered their special salad which was a bit oily, calzones which were very bland in flavor, parmesan risotto with beef which was also bland, and the swordfish special with steamed spinach which was nothing special. For desert we had tiramisu served in a large coffee cup and crème brulee. The crème brulee had a super hard crust of sugar on top. I have never seen one where you had to stab hard at the top to get to the desert. We also ordered cocktails which were also not great. The kir royale seemed to be made from champagne that had been open a long time since there were not many bubbles and the aperol spritz tasted watered down. Save your money for once of the many other nice restaurants around the Music Center.
Food was average. Service chaotic and unreliable. Quite noisy. Staff appears to be poorly trained.
Very fresh seafood dishes, beautifully prepared, graciously served. Loved the shrimp, scallop, cherry tomato pasta. Our server was most attentive, had helpful suggestions for sharing, carefully explained the evening's specials, she made our experience wonderful and perfectly timed to get to the opera at a leisurely pace.
Always enjoy Vespaio -great drinks, yummy entrees, delish appetizers and an extensive wine list. This evening was no exception. We had a lovely dinner as a prelude to a lovely Italian opera (LaTraviata). Seated right on time, and even though we had 2 later arrivals, our waitstaff kept right up with the cocktails arriving, and apps coming out perfectly. One tiny mix-up with the only newcomer's entree, but they fixed it fairly quickly. All in all, lovely dinner!
Great ambiance and great location. The wine list was very limited in wine by glass area.
Absolutely LOVED our lunch at Vespaio! The food was phenomenal...the employees were an utter delight...and, the atmosphere was lovely. We truly enjoyed our experience and would come back any chance we got.
It was too noisy. So since most of our friends are 70 years plus, I would not recommend this restaurant. Also, the pasta servings were small.
We were seated 17 minutes after our reservation time. They charged us $8 to add olives and onions to the pizza, and agreed to credit the charge when we complained. Service was otherwise good. Food is average.
The restaurant was packed and service was terrible. We asked for bread three times before we got it, couldn’t get salt and pepper... our waiter was MIA until another waiter took pity and was then very responsive. Carpaccio appetizer was very good... asparagus risotto was under seasoned and bland. To top it off $15.00 valet. Won’t be back.
A busy night with performances at all the theaters. Place was packed and crazy, but once we got our orders in things went quickly. Ahi tuna appetizer was very fresh, as was the artichoke salad. Saffron seafood pasta dish had intense flavors with perfectly cook pasta. Dessert selection is great so we were bad and partook. The wine selection is quite good, though not cheap, you can find some excellent choices under $50. Our waitress was very apologetic for the initial slowness of service. I think this place is improving over my last visit a few years ago.
I think the restuarant gets slammed at lunch and dinner. Slow service, but tasty wel-prepared food. Good choices. PRICY!!
I ate at Vespaio on NYE and the service was awful. I chalked that up to it being a holiday. I returned on a Wednesday night at 5:45. I had tickets to an 8 show, 2 blocks walking away. I barely made it. The service was terribly slow. While the wait staff was friendly it took over an hour for our food to arrive, about 20 minutes before our drink order was taken, and then 10-15 minutes for drinks to arrive. While we were given a free dessert for our patience it did nothing to lessen the stress. And this was on our anniversary to boot. The restaurant asked if it was a special occasion and was told it was our anniversary but they did nothing with that information. The restaurant is large, conveniently located and beautiful, but the service is horrible. The . tables are so close together that I was bumped every time the waiter needed to get to the table next to us. The food is good but not anything memorable. There are lots of restaurants to choose from and this is no longer on my list.
Calamari was excellent! Mozzarella salad just had one tiiiiiiiiny basil leaf, some iceberg lettuce and no dressing or glacé of any sort... I felt it was lacking in flavor and creativity. Verdi pasta dish was TO DIE FOR! Jadori chicken was not bad, but not exciting. Wine was excellent! Great selection of BTG wines. Mascarpone for dessert was SO YUMMY!
Service was lacking. We were definitely apart of the theater crowd for the evening, which I understand that it gets busy, however I asked for limes for my (purchased) sparkling water more than thrice, yet the closest I ever came to seeing them was a plate of lemons and an assurance that limes were available and that some would be brought... never happened. Had to wave down my server (which I hate) whenever I needed something. I think she checked in on her own very hurriedly once. Drinks took 10 minutes or so to arrive. Service could use vast improvement, but that’s par for the course in LA, I have found.
Great food, a little pricey. Wine list is also good.
We live in DTLA and often dine at Vespaio. Each and every time we are delighted by the food, service and ambience. And we love the Che Buono cocktails. So good...and dangerous. They go down like lemonade. Also have to say that this last time our server was Tony. He was absolutely the BEST!
