I made my reservation on Open Table with no mention of the restaurant being permanently closed. 6 of us were going out to celebrate my daughter's birthday. I even received an e- mail confirmation with again no mention of the restaurant being permanently closed. You can imagine how upset we were to arrive to a closed restaurant. We had to scramble on a Fri. Night to find something available on the fly. Extremely disappointed with Open Table. Thought you were more reliable.
When we arrived the restaurant was closed down. We had taken an Uber there and were stranded. It was an awful situation. Open table should be updated to the fact that the restaurant is not operating anymore!
Apparently this place is closed for business. We made a reservation days in advance, only to find it locked up on a Saturday night. Second time this has happened in a month trying to go there. You should not accept reservations from this restaurant anymore. This is too bad as it was a fantastic restaurant.
I was very unhappy to learn upon arrival, that Vespa had closed down the week prior. I drove from NY with my in-laws to meet my parents for dinner there after booking a 6pm reservation via opentable. Being that there were no alerts or contact made from OT to let me know the restaurant was no longer in business, i'll no longer book with this site.
Restaurant was closed. No sign or phone message indicating why! We were there before and we're looking forward to eating there again.
I should have known when I saw I could make a reservation only a few days out for Valentine's Day that the restaurant was only mediocre. The problems surround the menu, food quality and price. A restaurant that charges over $30 for an entre and over $15 for an appetizer in Westport CT better have a great menu and excellent food. Unfortunately Vespa has neither. If I were to guess, I would say the chef needs to be changed. The Veal Milanese was an average lunch dish, not dinner entre, The Lobster Risotto arrived practically cool with the half tail attached to its shell instead of hot nestled in the shell. There are no table cloths. The staff, while attentive, seemed either under staffed or under trained. I would not return.
Not for me. Hadn't been in a few years and won;the going back. Appetizers were good, but the main course (chicken) awful. Hard, dry and salty.
There was a error not he bill which was surprising. A charge for a second bottle of wine. I caught it and it was quickly removed. Suspicious.
We had reservations for 2 for dinner at 8pm. When we got there, the restaurant was closed. No one called or emailed saying that the restaurant would be closed. Unprofessional
Can't really give an experience review because no experience occurred. I had corporate leadership in town and when we arrived for our reservation the restaurant was shut down. No lights on, no one there. Not the impression I wanted to make for a business meeting.
The service and attitude of the waiters was terrible. We would not go back.
We had two major problems with our dinner, which basically ruined the experience. First, our food didn't come out of the kitchen for 60 minutes after we placed our order. To add insult to injury, our waited continued to make false promises about its imminent arrival. Getting any food or service was like pulling teeth--difficult and painful. The other major problem for the entire restaurant was that there was almost nothing on the wine list. The price distribution was bi modal, either in the $50 range, or in the $200 and up range. The very few choices in between were sold out...and then all the lower priced ones sold out. We ordered a $200 bottle of wine because that is all they had (to their credit, they gave us a discount on it.). Bad night for Vespa, compounded by a waiter who really didn't give a darn.
Here is a review from a critical European -- this place is good! Stellar service, very friendly, full glasses of wine poured at the table. Food is solid, really enjoyed the steak and the salmon. Worth 5 stars!
Hard to beat location in Westport on the riverfront, in a historical building, and right downtown so thats already reason to try. Go again for great ambiance. Somewhat lively bar area on weekends with a 30s to 40s couples crowd. Food is fair to good, great dishes and presentation but just fair to good on taste. I had an awesome handcrafted cocktail... huge bummer it took forEVER to get it delivered to our dining table. Wait staff was reasonably attentive, but very friendly and knowledgeable. I have dined here 3 times since opening and would go again. Wish it was a hair better though and I'd literally live there!!!
My experience being the first time to Vespa was wonderful. The service was impeccable, the menu while simple was actually quite complex. The wine list was also not extensive, but we shared a bottle of rose, and each had first a glass of the sauvignon blanc and they were both delicious. We ordered the fresh mozzarella with prosciutto and it was very good. We absolutely loved the Tonarelli pasta with the cracked pepper, the excellent waiter Scott suggested it and he was right. Because we weren't sure about all the pepper, we asked to tone it down, and they did, which we agree was a good decision. My friend had the sea bass, it would have been nice if the skin could have been removed easily or been removed by the chef prior to serving, and we knew it came with the skin, yet the balance of the dish which was shaved fennel and asparagus tips the fish was excellent. I had the special braised short rib and it was as good as the one I had in Houston and better, the meat was seasoned perfectly, tender and the balance of dish which was a roasted potato puree under the meat was fantastic. Next time I will try the gelato for dessert. I enjoyed the ambiance and the upbeat atmosphere, it was a Saturday night and the seating was full, but the staff was able to keep up seamlessly. I look forward to returning to Vespa, and I would like to try an early meal at the barside and outdoor seating in the Summer. Keep up the great work, this is the one of the best restaurants in Westport.
As always the food was innovative and good and beautifully presented. The wait staff is very, very friendly. MY husband thought the $42 steak was a bit tough.
First time at Vespa and we were pretty disappointed. The restaurant is very nice from an ambience and location perspective. Service was attentive and prompt.
After we had placed our drink and menu order, we finally asked for some bread. The waiter said no problem then came back and said they ran out. It was a 5:30 reservation.
My wife had salmon and I had a filet mignon. Both were very average. Not awful but nothing memorable. Taste was ok, but what I would equate to a higher end chain experience.
Appetizer - meatball polpette was good. Arugula salad ok but apples were tasteless.
Probably not going to return based on the quality of food for dinner. The location, service and ambience might have me back for drinks and apps.
Vespa was a welcome surprise on numerous fronts. We recently visited on a Wednesday evening, not normally a busy time in the suburbs. Despite hosting a 20 person birthday party the kitchen and the service staff turned out well executed dishes with flawless service. With a modern twist on Italian dishes Vespa offers flavorful but very clean, and unfussed dishes.
The wine list covers all budgets and to our happy surprise, Wednesday is half price wine (bottles under $100).
Wonderful establishment by the water. Impeccable service.
I had high hopes for Vespa, and all expectations were exceeded by miles. The food is excellent, but above all the service here is absolutely incredible. High standards with not an ounce of pretension. Can't recommend Vespa enough, and I'll absolutely be returning when I'm back in the area.
The food was terrible and over priced. Ordered Gluten free pasta for my daughter and there were 11 pcs of Penne pasta an appetizer portion in my opinion and they charged $17 for it. They also forgot one of our appetizers. My Veal Milanese dish was dry and it was terrible.
I would not recommend this restaurant ever.
Very swanky place - beautiful exterior, location, decor! Unfortunately, our experience was not the best. The waiter we had was very jittery and was rushing us, so we asked management to change him, which they did. (The manager was very, very nice.) The new waiter was awesome, but there was still something off in the overall service. It seemed chaotic and disorganized. We arrived at 7pm and didn't get appetizers until past 8pm. They didn't serve any bread. Their drinks were a bit off. Mine were good, but the soda they served was almost flat and the table water wasn't chilled and they have a unique twist on classic cocktails (their cosmopolitan martini, which should be mainly vodka and cranberry juice, came out light pink, tasting like a citrus cocktail dominated by triple sec). (Actually, their special cocktail list itself was very limited, albeit interesting - almost everything was citrus-heavy and sour/lemony.) The food itself was quite good (kudos to the chef), but the whole experience was a bit disappointing. Normally, I'm not one to complain, but, bear in mind, this is a pricier type of restaurant and, through that lens, it wasn't worth the price and I wouldn't be inclined to return.
Our experience was goid. People very pleasant and accomodating. Comfortable. .Biggest drawback was the food..sounded wonderful but too salty. Both dishes..artichoke hearts and pasta. So sorry.
Excellent food and waiter. Bolognese and salmon were terrific. Loved the caroling by a very talented high school acapella group.
This should be an elegant place, but it seems to have taken a "casual" dining turn with food coming out super quick and multiple staff members asking to clear plates that were still in use. The experience felt like an off night.
Food was good, but limited menu. Service was horrible and noise level was way too high for conversations .
Menu is limited but everything on it is very good. Service is always very good. Was loud due to a large group standing/hanging out around bar area but that's unusual.
This was my first visit to Vespa. Miles, our waiter, was outstanding. I had the fried artichokes with lemon to start, followed by a creamy pepper pasta for my main course. The artichokes were nearly a meal in themselves. They were quite tasty. The pasta's sauce had too much pepper, and I eat a liberal amount of pepper. I suspect a number of people would have sent the dish back to tone it down. The three other diners I dined with were all happy with their appetizers and entrees. We shared a couple of orders of piping hot doughnuts with three different sauces for dessert. They were sinful. The only knock I give Vespa is that it is very loud in there. There is nothing to absorb the sound.
It was our second visit to Vespa. Food is good, but somewhat inconsistent (e.g., excellent apps, salad, and soup, but fatty beef (but perfectly cooked...still, I expect a better quality steak for $40-$45) and semi-tasteless fish as main courses). Our server was terrific at first, but we felt like we were forced to speed eat through our meal, as we were served apps within 5 mins of ordering, and main courses less than 5 mins after the app dishes were cleared. The server then disappeared, and it took another 45 mins to get the check. We had a different server last time, but a similar experience. They just need to teach pacing to the servers.
Excellent service, terrific ambiance. Menu is extremely limited. Drinks weren't great and the wine list is ridiculously overpriced!! Love the atmosphere and space, and service was top notch, but don't know if I'll go back.
Good food. Had a pasta dish, steak and a fish dish between two of us. Big cool looking space. Unfortunately for us they hosted a little league football end of season party that took place in the same area and made for a loud and annoying hour and half. Who throws a little league party at a nice Italian restaurant anyway? Was Planet Pizza closed? Ruined my wife's birthday dinner. They should have told me during either of the two confirmation calls they got me on. But whatever, Vespa is a nice place, good food and priced competitively.
Amazing meal....creative and good drinks. Attentive service. A 5 for sure
Let's get this straight- I hate winers, but i hate poor service just as much. I won't be goIng back to Vespa until they sort out their service issues. A huge and embarrassing disappointment indeed, after I recommended we eat there Saturday night with some new friends. I have loved this restaurant since it opened. It's an ambient spot. Cool and chic. This time it was a big disappointment. We were asked to change tables since there was a "very important " person coming that needed our spot. We are human, we all make mistakes, but you need to offer something in return for your mistake and your rudeness. A bottle of wine, dessert... ??after being told that our group wasn't important they moved us to the "kiddie" section of the restaurant where there is horrible lighting, loud noise and no servers to be found. After waitIng at our "new table" for 10 minutes, our server left before getting all of our drink orders. We had to flag down another waiter to get ourbmuch needed cocktails. We should have left but it was a first time out in a while with new friends and we didn't want to make a scene. It didn't improve from there. We continued to flag down waiters, never got a wine list, received one first course 5 minutes after everyone else's was served.
Humorous, chatty waiter. Lovely food. Limited menu, but everything tasty. Ordered pasta and when served thought it was a very small portion. But, could hardly finish it... rich homemade pasta with rich flavorful sauce...delish!
Will definitely come back again.
Every disha was excellent. Loved the beets and whipped ricotta. The swodship was superb as an entree
New illy coffee service was first class
We l had an amazing meal and service ! Will go back again !!
Excellent experience overall. Went early before the WCP and had plants of time to relax and enjoy a lovely dinner. Not inexpensive but a nice treat with great service and dinner selections. Great spot.
Few dinner options
Food was delicious
Very good food but slow service in a time that wasn't especially busy.
Placed looks great, menu is good. Service - needs help. Seemed like something out of a comedy. Thankful for a very attentive bus boy. Waiter very nice but not around much - only a few tables dining and things took forever. Except our entree- which came out before our appetizers.
I don't know if something has happened recently with the ownership of the restaurant, but I had a very poor experience this time I went to Vespa. This was my second time here, I LOVED my first time. This time however, the restaurant did not have any sparkling water, they did not have their signature focaccia bread (which was a major selling point for me last time), and the service was pretty poor.
When we were finally able to order, we did get served quickly, but after the entrees arrived, I felt like our waiter forgot about us completely.
We were celebrating my sister's birthday and I went to ask the waiter if he could put a candle in her dessert after we finished our entrees and before we ordered dessert at the table. The waiter asked me what she would be having and I told him the one dessert she would have. Instead of coming to ask our orders for dessert (in total we were a party of 6), he brought the one dessert with a candle. It took us a while after to be able to order dessert for the rest of the table because the waiter never came by to check on us.
Overall I was very unhappy with the experience, the whole thing seemed weird to me. I don't understand why they wouldn't have staples such as sparkling water.
