I love this place. We go a lot. But I wish they had more vegetarian options.
Excellent food and service !! Went there before the Rolling Stones Concert and the staff made sure we were on schedule. Great place and we will be back ! Rick the owner is a wonderful guy, I left my credit card by mistake, and could not get back there due to being at the concert, Rick was kind enough to drop it off at my hotel as I was leaving early the next day ! How about that ??
This was our first time and we came to celebrate my birthday. Let’s just say they really made it special. Not only did they bring over a piece of cheesecake for me but the store owner brought over a glass of champagne for us to cheer. It was an extra gesture that really made it special. Thank you for going the extra mile to please your guests!
Good ambiance. Definitely has potential to be a social space. Goat cheese pizza is a great. Great service. They have wine and non-wine options . Wish they had a few more merlot options during happy hour, but overall it's a good experience.
Great dinner ! All four of our meals were delicious! Very relaxing atmosphere. All around amazing evening. We will definitely come again .
Super dining venue, great ambiance in both the bar and dining areas. Fun wine flights available, as well as many interesting wine choices. Fried calamari and Shishito peppers were light and crispy, very flavorful. Both steaks and lamb chops were well prepared and delicious. Really nice place, we'll be back soon!
Worst service ever. Thought I was being pranked. Never going back.
Service was extremely slow. There was a dinner party that seemed to occupy our server. Food was okay but not worth coming back for.
The food was good. The service was atrocious. Having a place that charges as much for food as some other Pasadena places but have very poor service just doesn’t cut it.
We were so pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. We don’t know the area well and we chose it because it was close to the Pasadena Civic, where we were seeing a show. Now we are hoping to find another concert to attend just so we can return to this lovely restaurant. Rick, the owner spent quite a bit of time with us, sharing the history of the historic building. It was a perfect place to celebrate my mom’s birthday.
Well it was my very first date with my new girlfriend. A friend recommended to me to take this special lady to Vertical in Pasadena. So we went to Vertical. From the moment we sat down we both were treated like royalty. The service was great, and the ambience was perfect for a first date. The food was absolutely delicious! Throughout the evening the owner would drop by every now and then to ask us how everything was going. By the way 2 thumbs up to the owner because he is a true gentleman and an awesome person.
The drinks were great and my date and I were totally blown away by how wonderful our 1st lil dinner date went! I would highly recommend the Vertical restaurant to anyone looking for a place to enjoy a meal in Pasadena.
We are still talking about our great evening at Vertical Wine . From the moment we walked in we were greeted with a smile , nice conversation and sat at a table we requested . The owner went out of his way as well as our server to make sure our drinks , food and evening were up to our expectations. The food was delicious and they had a variety of choices for our different palates . We will be back again especially when they have entertainment and not needing to get to a play .
Great place for dinner!
The wine bar had a lounge feel. I heard music as I walked in the door and not too loud. The waiters let me choose where I wanted to sit. The drinks came quick and were delicious. The food was made to look like art. A gentleman came in and began playing his guitar while singing, he was so talented. I had such an enjoyable experience I would definitely go again. Thank you Vertical Wine bar owner and staff.
The bone marrow was delicious. Service was great. Ambiance is lounge-y with candles and exposed brick. Calamari was subpar but everything else was right on the money.
Warmly greeted by Paul i believe was the owner..... they have two sections - outside long table seating and inside dining room seating. If you want noise, energy, people watching, be at the outside section. I love the energy and the friendly attentive bartenders and waitresses. However, i needed an environment for conversations so i opted to sit inside their more "formal" dining section. Very nice and quiet. Wine selection is amaze and food was done well.
What a gem i found!!
Girl’s Night Out!
The feel of this restaurant was amazing! Great ambiance from the moment you walk in and make your way upstairs you get absorbed and are taken back by the Beauty and cleanliness!! Great drink selection! The staff are great and very attentive , even the owner took the time to acknowledge us and greet us . But the best part of my night was definitely the food!! One of the best steaks I’ve had In a long time !
Loved it and I would go back but not order the sea food pasta! Instead I would order the rack of lamb!
Excellent service and food!
Great venue for celebrating a friend’s birthday! Our first visit, great food and wine, attentive service -we will return.
Dinner was delicious - everything was cooked to perfection and the service was very good. The waiter was well informed and very attentive. We can't wait to go back.
On Saturday, I brought wife for dinner. We could tell immediately that they were understaffed. We opted to stay. The food was good, but the service slow and inattentive. When our entrees arrived we had no place settings. I waited a few minutes and took a couple knives and forks off a nearby table. That’s just ridiculous when you’re asked to pay 140 bucks for two. The waiter wanted to do better but he was spread to thin. The management appeared lackluster and indifferent.
The service was surprisingly bad. Food was decent. Really great ambiance. I hope they get it together.
Incredibly slow service, seemed liked they were short handed. Ordered steak medium and it came out essentially rare. Didn't send it back because I didn't want to wait longer. Also, when steak came out it didn't come with the sauce described on the menu. I asked for sauce and it was brought out much later in a plastic cup. Really?!!
Waiter was nice and provided a free desert.
I can't imagine every going here again.
Amazing food. Live music and great wine. Was a great place to spend valentines night at. The service was impeccable with no complaints.
It was nice and memorable. Ruben was terrific. Needs a bit brushing up on his wine pairings but offered great service. I enjoyed the live music but it was a little loud considering it was valentine’s day.
Incredible salmon, probably the best I've ever had. Drinks were overpriced but I would still recommend this place to my friends.
My wife and I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while and it didn’t disappoint. The food and service was excellent and I’d suggest coming for happy hour before dinner to take advantage of the drink specials.
This place has potential, but weak service, not only slow, but poor attention to detail. Glasses all seemed dirty, table settings for four remained during our entire meal, even though only two diners, and one of two diners had empty wine glass with both manager and server walking by many times. Too many great places in Pasadena to go back.
We were there 2 hours and couldn’t get service to save our life! All we got were drinks and an appetizer in that time and finally found our server to tell him to box our meals up, which he couldn’t understand after 2 hours! Won’t be back ever again! And when we opened up our boxed meals at home, they were the WRONG MEALS!! Ruined our anniversary totally....
Execellent service. Our waiter was very friendly and shared interesting stories of the building history. It was a quiet evening on a Friday night. It was about 1/3 occupied at 8pm.
Nice place with good food and service
Great for a NYE celebration!
Owner was wonderful but the NYE preset menu, lack of service, and truly odd experience led to my 1 star review.
Hello. My name is Ole and I am one of the owners here at Vertical. I will agree with your comments, as I myself witnessed issues early on. I could tell right away that we were in for a rough night. There are no excuses. It just chalks up to a bad day at work.... Yours and everyone else's satisfaction is our #1 priority and I apologize that we were not on top of things on such a special occasion. If you were to give us a chance to redeem ourselves, I am sure that you would not be disappointed.
My husband and I went on New Years Eve at 5:30. We got there 5 minutes early and we’re directed to bar to wait until our table was ready. Other people came while we were waiting and were seated. I asked the owner if he forgot about us and at that time we were seated - 5:50. Was a 3 course fixed menu. We waited and waited- there was one waitress for our section. Approximately 30 minutes after being seated she came to take our order. There were 4 tables of 2 and one of 4 persons in this area. Our order arrived and my husband got a luckwarm soup and I received the wrong salad. Salad was sent back and exchanged. Main course lobster arrived which was also barely warm. Desert was a scoop of ice cream for my husband and I had a chocolate eclair. Bill total $179. Left restaurant at almost 8pm. Will not return. The owner made rounds with the customers and we shared our thoughts with him as did others who were not happy🙁
A must try, you will not be disappointed. We are return customers and others we have recommended to were pleased as well.
I had my first date with my wife at this place, as well as several anniversaries. The food and atmosphere gets better with every visit.
We loved everything about Vertical Wine Bistro!
We had been at the Huntington Library, and I’d randomly picked the Bistro on Open Table. What a winner!
The clams and calamari made for wonderful appetizers. The bar drinks were well-poured and tasty.
The duck and lamb entries were cooked to perfection, and our friend loved his filet mignon. And what’s not to love about creme brûlée for dessert?
Our waitress was attentive and helpful. The owner stopped by our table and shared the restaurant’s and building’s history. (The restaurant is located in historic old Pasadena and the wrought iron stairway in the courtyard is stunning. There’s an elevator available.)
Next time we are in Pasadena, we will definitely be back at the Vertical Wine Bistro!
Worth checking out, beautiful decor, separate dining areas, food prepared as ordered and good. Only draw back was our server was a little hard to understand on explaining menu and wine selections and our appetizer took long, only 4 other tables seated in our area, but we weren't in a hurry, was worth the wait. Our entrees were on time and delicious. Definitely give it a try, we'll be returning for sure!
