Waited an hour for our food (just 2 of us). Calamari was poor. Better off going to a chain, better tasting and cheaper. Waiter was excellent and apologetic. Did not like host/manager. Menu stated happy hour yet the check did not reflect that. Brought it up to the manager and he said thats only if you eat at the bar. If that's the case, menu should say that. Comped the appetizer, yet he acted as if he was doing me a favor since we "misunderstood" about happy hour. Sea bass was salty and the potatoes that came with the steak were sad and watery. Overpriced and definitely not worth the wait. Best part of the restaurant was the entrance before getting in
The service was great and the food delicious
The service was the main issue. Very poor and slow even though not many people in the restaurant. Food was pretty good but a bit on the salty side. Ambiance great. Little overpriced
Awesome owner and awesome restaurant. The owner came and sat down with us and wanted to just get to know us better. All was just amazing and wonderful. They also have jazz nights and a dj with top 40 music. Great restaurant and yummy food.
I love this place! It’s one of our go-to spots in Pasadena.
Service outstanding from beginning to end. Jass live music pleasant surprise. Ambiance was amazing specially for age group 30-55 - not for clubbing crowd. Elegant yet warm and friendly. FOOD IS DELICIOUS!
Great place to patron as always. Brought a friend from overseas and she enjoyed the ambiance and decor.
My dad and i came for dinner on my last night in town and we had a great experience. The staff was awesome, accommodating and attentive. The food was delicious. I had the sea bass and my dad had the duck. Both were cooked to perfection. The highlight was the wine and cheese plate we ordered. A very nice place, we will definitely return!
We rsvp a birthday dinner for 10. We arrivistes a little early but where sat down by a beautiful window next to a great musician. The restaurant had great ambience and was beautiful. Our server was great, very accommodating. Half of our party showed up after us and she was able to greet and serve everyone.
We went here for a double date/to celebrate a birthday and it was the perfect place for the occasion. The owner welcomed us when we arrived and we ordered drinks from the friendly bartender while we waited for our friends. We we're seated as soon as we got there and ordered a cheese plate with choices recommended by our server which were fantastic! Our food was very good and they even brought out a delicious slice of cheese cake on the house for the birthday girl. The atmosphere is great for a fun night out whether you just want some drinks and apps or a full meal. Definitely recommend checking this place out.
If you are going for a romantic dinner request the back room. Front dinning room is noisy from the bar. area.
The wine menu is great. The menu itself is impressive. BUT do not order the shrimp cocktail. For the price, it’s a rip off. Your basically getting Costco shrimp. That was disappointing. Calamari was good. I ordered the New York steak. Very thin and over cooked. My brusssel sprouts were burnt. But the atmosphere was great.
My wife Yvette and I Celebrated our 20th Anniversary with a large group of friends and family on Saturday night but also had an intimate dinner on Friday night alone. We can’t thank Rick and his staff (especially Martha) enough for the best times ever. Everyone loved the ambiance of the place, the food and the wine & cocktails. We couldn’t have been treated better, thanks again. We would recommend this wonderful place to everyone.

It's a wine bar, but when we asked for the wine list, beyond what is poured by the glass, the waitress looked at us like we were crazy. She called it the bible, cute...but then followed up by saying she knows nothing about it and couldn't tell us anything beyond what they serve by the glass. Again, I repeate, this place has "wine bar" in its name. The owner was sweet and went around greeting the tables but no one could tell us what was served with one of the steaks. Really? Does anybody read the menu at this place? I got the duck and it was pretty meh.
The raw bar menu is really good and a great value, but you have to ask for it so if you don't know they serve seafood platters than you would never know. The only reason I asked for it was b/c I read the menu before reserving a table and chose the location b/c of the raw bar...so I would have been really upset if that wasn't actually menu offering. Overall, it was a fine experience, but memorable for the irony of it all rather than its exceptional nature.
This place was a GREAT find! There were 5 of us and we all truly enjoyed the wine and the food. The servers were so helpful and very attentive to all our needs. They offered great suggestions for drinks and food for our entire stay. Great vibes and great place to chill. We will be back!
Lovely manager!! waiter mixed up the drink order. Was totally empty. Left bf dinner.
This is one of my most favorite places in LA area.
Great location to be able to start with Happy Hour and finish with a nice sit down dinner. Location was great and easy to find. There was a variety of food, and it was very delicious. As for drinks, there was a great selection of wines, beers, and mixed drinks. Will recommend to someone on a date, or after work. This place was great on a Friday evening!
Loved the mystic as you climb up the vintage looking staircase to the restaurant entrance. Upon entering the energy was vibrant due to a small crowd celebrating a birthday at the bar. We were given a table by a window quite a few steps away from the bar. This was awesome since the wall that separted us from the bar kept the noise down. I really wanted to enjoy my husbands conversation and I was able to. Our window allowed us to peak over a few brick buildings that had several lighted strings of round bulbs illuminating a pathway used by pedestrians. It was quite romantic since we were dinning during dusk hours. I ordere the Pan-Seared Salmon. The presentation was unique and quite creative. The salmon layed over a bed of green lentils and a sunny side egg topped the salmon quite flirtatious. My first bite introduced me to an amazing mix of flavors which actually began a festive moment in my mouth. I loved it. The salmon was not overpowering and seared to perfection which I enjoyed very much. I paired my meal with a glass of Rascal Jolivet and it was magnificent. The owner of the establishment presented him self to us and I found him quite charming. He made us feel very welcomed. We can't wait to return.
This is a lovely restaurant that has an interior design that would be appropriate in Architectural Digest. I recommend the new salmon entree with risotto as a side. Sit near the DJ if you want an energetic night. Otherwise dine in the private area to allow for a quiet conversation with family, friends, or acquaintances. For dessert go with the creme brûlée.
It’s great place , service is good considering there was only one waiter that was serving everyone. Great food too it was very tasty .
Made my daughter's birthday very special. Love your menu and wine selection. My family and I were very satisfied and will return in future. Nancy
We would have given this restaurant 5 stars , however we had to be searching for our waiter, once he came he was very friendly . We were celebrating my nieces 27 th bday . Was our 1st time for all four of us, pay a little more attention to your guests next time
Great place for fine dining! They got everything right.
Great bar bites. Mac n cheese was awesome. Loved the wine and the chat with the owner. Super nice and friendly place.
Had a wonderful time at Vertical Wine Bistro. The server was extremely attentive and sweet! The manager even stopped by to say hello and introduce himself. They also had a great jazz band playing in the lounge area, but it wasn’t too loud that it bothered us in the dining room.
All in all, it was a great experience, and I would love to go back!
First class foodie option in Solvang, featuring prix-fixe, small plates and local ingredients. A very nice place to savor your latest bottle after a long day of wine tasting.
A friend recommended Vertical Wine Bistro to me for a small group dinner - great recommendation! We had a wonderful dinner - fantastic food and friendly, attentive service.
Lovely evening for our anniversary dinner on Saturday. We had not been before and loved the quaint nook entrance upstairs. We had an early dinner reservation and at 6pm we were the only people until a family came in at 6:30 and then a few patrons at the bar arrived a bit later. The fact the restaurant was empty did alarm us since we expected it to be crowded on the eve of Father's Day. However, presentation and meal were excellent. We started with the calamari and a great light red bottle of wine. My husband order a steak and I, the halibut. Truly tasty on all counts. Rick, the owner made sure to come by and introduce himself and stayed an extended time chatting about the roots of the establishment. He explained later in the evening they were going to have live music at the bar. We enjoyed the vibe of the restaurant and hope that the lack of patrons is not the norm. We wanted quiet and less crowds for our evening, so it felt to us like a great little secret of Old Town Pasadena...but they surely can't survive when it's that slow. We hope business continues to go well for them and look forward to going again.
Vertical Bistro is one of our favorite hidden gems--great wine list, excellent cuisine and one of the best Manhattans in Pasadena. I recommend it for a wonderful date night, but we also take our young kids (10 & 7) there. It is truly a hidden gem!
Very Disappointing. Very expensive for unimaginative and bland food. Nice ambiance but the food needs to justify itself when you pay for $30-40 entrees.
Food was ok.
Mama’s Day. Other than the service lacking a bit. Not sure why...it was late in the day and they weren’t busy at all...it was very nice and I’d definitely come back.
Disorganized service, but good food at a very fair price and nice setting.
Fit for a couple going out or for a business dinner... from the bartenders to the wait staff to the back of the house, all pitch in and provide a solid, enjoyable experience. Go. Go back. Go back again...
A fine place for our family to have gathered for a wonderful meal
Always a great place for fine dining. Wonderful food, drinks and wine. Great atmosphere. Our Waiter was great. My Old Fashion got a bit sticky so I asked our waiter just for a wet napkin to wipe my hands. He went and got a wet hot cloth napkin and rolled it up and put it in a glass (the same size as my old fashion). I was just expecting a wet towel from the restroom but he went the extra mile. I was able to use this thought my meal. My partner and I have had this same waiter many times and he is always great. I not sure of his name but we always eat in the dining area. He is a very nice, polite and friendly young man. He is there when you need him but otherwise leaves you alone. Since we had time before the symphony we asked him not rush our orders through and he did just that. Drinks, appetizers, entree and dessert all at a great pace. And since my last post they have fixed the elevator. With my bad leg, it was so helpful.
The food was excellent - a great menu with lots of options. My beet salad was fresh and delicious and the service was excellent. I requested something not on the menu and it was not a problem at all. I would very much recommend this place. The wine list was also diverse and interesting. A real treat.
The salad they advertized on the menu was not available, the dessert of cheesecake was on the menu but not available. I wanted decaf coffee and it was unavailable. The service was excellent. The food was good. I will not be going back.
The price was fair.
Decent wine but terrible food. Pasta is salty but bland and wayyyy overcooked. Risotto is salty but once again bland. Steak au poivre was cooked right but served cold so that was a big disappoinment. Good for drinks but eat elsewhere.
