Vernon's Speakeasy Ratings and Reviews
Top of the line ambiance, food, and service - - with an unusual and interesting twist! The ONLY thing I would improve is the price (high), though this is really a special occasion place and not somewhere you'd normally go every week. Our only other complaint is that the restaurant has a very clear (and elegant) dress code; however, the parties around us quasi-ruined the mood by dressing very casually (like, cut-up jeans casual). It would be nice if they enforced this at the door to preserve the environment for those who comply, but this is really the fault of the folks who ignore the request. Overall, this has become our favorite go-to place for all of our special occasions. Food and portions were amazing and the service was great! Thanks, Vernon's!
Vernon's does it again ! A wonderful evening out with family including perfectly made cocktails, delicious food, nice wine list and yummy desserts to end a perfect evening. Appetizers were amazing, steaks were cooked perfectly. The service was spot on, just enough to make you feel cared for and no hovering over you. Taking your time to enjoy the Vernon's experience is key. When was the last time you had a pleasant 2 hour dinning experience, time well spent with family and friends. Vernon's will not rush you and do not rush yourself, enjoy. You will spend a little for the experience but well worth the cost. ENJOY !
We weren't really happy with where the hostess seated us. We were in a drafty area near the door away from everyone else in the main dining room. We felt like the rift-raft.
A second note, I had the special, the filet Mignon with lobster tail and although the meal was very good, I felt $40.00 for a very small tail was too much. Next time I'll stick with the steak and I wont hesitate to ask to be seated elsewhere if we're not happy.
This was by far the worst New Year's Eve outing I've had. They were completely unprepared for the number of people that were there. We arrived on time for our reservation and were told they were behind but could wait in the bar, which was packed like a can of sardines with people waiting to be seated. After waiting for another 30 minutes we were finally seated... for the main entree we ordered the bone in filet mignon and bone in ribeye both medium rare. Part of the filet mignin was medium rare, but a large portion was not cooked at all, while the ribeye came out medium/medium well. The wait staff was polite, but we didnt see them anytime soon so ate what we could as we were too hungry to wait longer. By the time they came to check on us it was too late. They did comp my wife's under cooked meal, but she was in bed the entire next day with gastrointestinal problems. I'm not sure I could ever convince her to go back, which is too bad as I think they had potential.
I'm very disappointed with Vernon's. We spent almost $500 last night for NYE. The food was good and our waiter professional and attentive, but the chaos going on was horrible and not at all relaxing. They overbooked for NYE and didn't anticipate that guests would linger for a special occasion like NYE. First we spent at least 45 minutes before we were seated eventhough we RSVPed. Since some patrons stayed longer than Vernon's calculated time then everything was back up. Seriously what do you expect on NYE. Come on this was $125 prix fix per person. Do you expect people to eat like it's MCDonald. The RSVP department FAILED miserably. Unfortunately we were seated near the bar where we literally saw the hostess & host, waiters and servers running about to serve people and to seat them. One couple was even asked to hurry up and eat their meal because someone needed their table. We were upset by hearing because it meant unless we don't eat fast enough then you will ask to vacate your table. When you spent that much money you don't need that kind of hassle especially on NYE.
Vernon this was EPIC failure!!!
Our visit to Vernon's for New Year's Eve was our third visit to Vernon's this year. Previous excellent food and service led us to choose Vernon's for this occasion. The restaurant charged a flat $125 per person, not including drinks. Our total bill for two people, including tip, approached $400. It wasn't worth it. While the food was good, it was not outstanding. The service was fine, but the manager refused to allow my pre-diabetic dining partner to substitute a glass of port for the dessert he was forced to pay for but had no business eating. I had previously ranked Vernon's almost as high as Geronimo. Won't any longer. We'll be looking for a new special occasion restaurant.
As a result of making reservations on 12/30 for New Year's Eve we had a choice of an early or late dinner; we chose early. Our waiter was charming, watchful and efficient; the waitstaff kept our water glasses full. We received complimentary sparkling wine and bread with garlic oil to toast over. The bread lacked flavor but the garlic oil was good. We ordered a Manhattan and Old Fashioned; both good with a total cost of $27 which seemed on the high side. We also had a choice of three items in each category: appetizer, soup or salad and entree with a choice of cheesecake or crepes for dessert. The sea bass was the best I've ever had. The meal was delicious and beautifully presented.
Vernon's is a gem. It is so much fun giving a password just to enter. But the service and food is absolutely top notch. They ask that you do not take out your cell phones (which I loved) however some people did and that was distracting. The attire is dressy yet some people come in baseball caps (that they do not remove) and tennis shoes. It did not impact our meal or service but I wish people would take the opportunity to dress us and have a grown up meal/experience. This is a must on your list of restaurants to visit in ABQ.
Vernon's is a wonderful hide-away where our ordinary occasion became an unforgettable experience, complete with the hidden, pass-worded entry with a unique explanation of "speakeasy etiquette", the live piano, and the excellent wait-staff. With accomplished bartenders, succulent appetizers, multiple delicious entrées and decadent deserts, Vernon's ranks as one of the very best eateries in Albuquerque.
I have eaten there several times unfortunately this was an off night for them. What's even worse is we were out with a large client and orders were not correct, and took way longer then expected. I will say Vernon's did step up ultimately and take care of things, but I have no intentions on taking clients back there.
The food and the service were outstanding. However, we were seated next to a large party. Not only were they loud, but they were drinking and using foul language. I'm accepting of people have a good time, but when I'm paying this much for a meal I expect a quality dining atmosphere. Veron's should consider a separate room for large parties. I would go back again, but next time I'd specifically request to be seated in a more private area.
My first time and what a hoot! Yes it is expensive but the food was spectacular and the whole Speakeasy theme was awesome. We had an outstanding experience for my birthday dinner. The service was awesome, food was delicious and I look forward to making it a special event location at least a couple times a year.
