Vernon's Speakeasy Ratings and Reviews
I know Vernon's is a steakhouse but I enjoyed a great pork loin dish. The red chile cream sauce and green chile bacon risotto were excellent. Service was good and the music was at just the right level. While the steaks are a bit on the pricey side everything else is reasonable.
We come to Vernon's for the quiet atmosphere. Our evening was disrupted with a screaming child at the table next to us. I'm sure the entire restaurant was disturbed. They did eventually move, but it was too late; the mood was ruined. They did not enforce their "no kids under 10" rule. If it happens again we won't be back, and we've been regulars for quite a while.
I wanted to treat my 11 Year old boy to an experience he would always remember. I told him there was a secret restaurant where we could only get in if we had a password. I assured him I would get the password and we would go. We arrived and his eyes were wide as I knocked on the door, the latch opened and asked for the password. As we entered, we were greeted by a large brute of man with a NY accent who "told us the rules." We were then led to our table and given some of the finest service imaginable, and ended the evening with a VIP tour of the place. Overall, the experience was just what I wanted, the food terrific and the memory forever lasting. Thank you to the staff for a night that will always be remembered by both of us. Michael B.
Party of 2 ordered 2 steak salads...1 medium well the other medium rare with the dressing on the side..needless to say the kitchen reversed the orders and the medium well came with the dressing on the side...waiter offered to make an adj however I told him the meals were edible and no adjustment was needed...entertain although very enjoyable I would expect a speakeasy to have more up beat entertainment to be more authentic not just dinner music on the piano
It was a family gathering. My brothers and sisters came to Albuquerque for the first time. It took them 45 minutes to seat us. We were then seated in an awful room with another table that had a dog. We were then offered to be seated at another table in another roomn which we gladly accepted. The head waiter or manager offered to comp our appetizers. When we received the check we were charged for the appetizers.
Great venue and different enough to validate some of the cost. A little disappointed in that my stake was rare (ordered medium) and my husbands order wasn't correct. Cesar salad tasted "fishy" for some reason. Scallops were amazing as was most seafood.
We enjoyed our visit to Vernon's. It was our first time there and we plan to go back, for sure. From the moment we walked in, we were amazed by the staff, the prompt and attentive service, the unique menu options, the yummy cocktails, and the amazingly delicious food. The concept of the restaurant was fun! The only complaint we have is that we were seated in the Black Diamond room for our anniversary, and were told the pianist would start playing 1/2 hour after our arrival, however they never showed up and we were never given an explanation or apology for the cancellation.
Honestly, I was very disappointed. I've visited here before and had great food. Although that visit had terrible service; our waiter was rude and impatient from start to finish. This most recent visit was just the opposite. I ordered the 20oz ribeye. After cutting away all of the fat, I was left with about 4-5oz of actual meat. My mashed potatoes had the consistency of reheated potatoes. My vodka martini was awful. I asked for "extra dirty up" and it came room temperature. The service was "ok." My friend from out of town that joined me for dinner was expecting a bit more "speakeasy" ambiance, so that was a disappointment for her. She ordered the lamb chops and did enjoy her meal. When I come back to town for Christmas I'll definitely be visiting Ruth's Chris instead.
Vernon’s was recommended by a friend and I am so glad I took her advice. What a pleasant surprise. I enjoyed the ambiance, the decor, the food, the cocktails, the menu, the wine list, the servers the secrecy. If you can tell by now I just loved the whole experience. I would so recommend this restaurant .
Best meal and service I have had in years. I can't say enough about this special place except you have to try it. We are from MN. and are only here for a few days but are planning a trip back before we leave. We had the filet mug on with lobster tail and the lamb chops. Sterling was our server who was outstanding.
