Vernick Food & Drink Ratings and Reviews
Excellent food as always. Came the second time and it didn't disappoint. The mushroom special was out-of-this-world, as was the sage fazzoletti (?) with duck prosciutto. Truly fantastic. This is our "go-to" place for special occasions. Also, the pear ice cream was really something!
Vernick has been my favorite restaurant in Philly ever since I discovered it a few years ago. Whenever I am in town, one dinner at Vernick is a must. The Maryland crab toast is to die for, as are the raw fish dishes and various small plates. The cocktails are inventive and good.
THIS PLACE IS A MUST!! Service was so professional, cocktails were so vibrant, and most importantly all the dishes were very, very creative and had so many flavors. I enjoyed more of toasts and small plates than the large one, which I could expect the taste of it, but in general, everything was awesome. Perfect ambiance, too.
We were lucky enough to be seated at the Chef’s Counter (6 seats) where you can ask questions of the chefs on the line and interact with Chef Vernick himself. This coupled with the absolutely incredible food made for a most special dining experience. I highly recommend the grilled romaine, beef tartare toast, and the sea urchin with scrambled egg, but nothing on the menu will disappoint!
First time there. Food was amazing. We sat at the bar. Showed up 17 mins late and they gave away table. They offered another one after 10 mins at the bar but we decided to stay there. Bartender, Ethan, was one of the best we have ever had. His food recommendations were spot on and he kept up with interesting talk. We had short rib ragu with fettuccini and 1/2 chicken. The service was impeccable! Everything came out in perfect timing. Other then the lost table, this was one of our best dining experiences in a long time. Would highly recommend
Great Dining Experience !! We went for a Special Anniversary. Our reservation was honored upon our arrival. Our waitress acknowledged that it was our anniversary and presented us with a complimentary glass of champagne. What a nice surprise !! She was very attentive and helpful in going over the menu. Our food was delicious as was the bottle of wine we ordered. It was a wonderful evening !! We look forward to our next visit.
Made the reservation through Open Table. I did mark that the occasion was our anniversary. That is the only indication the restaurant received, yet the first thing the server did was congratulate us and provide us with a complimentary glass of champagne. Our dinner was delightful and memorable. Thanks to all.
We absolutely enjoyed our dinner at Vernick. The service was impeccable and we received so many recommendations for things to do in Philadelphia (we are from Atlanta). We felt constantly checked on. Additionally, the food was the best meal I've had in months. We started with the oysters and beef tartare. Delicious!! The halibut was so elegant and tasty. The wood fire chicken was tender and moist. Thank you for an amazing experience.
I not sure what I enjoyed more ; the wonderful attention to detail that our server, Eric, pampered me and my husband with or the perfectly prepared food. On our way out of the restaurant every one from the manager to the support staff acknowledged our departure with warm regards. The best experience we had in quite a while.
Consistently magnificent. Superb braised vegetables, smoked trout on toast, a turbot amandine with vegetables, beautiful to see and wonderful to eat. On a whim asked about the "Love" wine from California, recommended by server and a perfect complement to the meal. No attempt to over pour wine; consistently asked if we wanted glasses topped off.
After a truly memorable Birthday dinner last year, I decided in mid September to reserve a table for 2 at Vernick's again with Open Table for October 30, 2017 but it was either Halloween at 9:15 or the 27th at 5:15, which we chose to avoid a trick or treaters' night out. The starters of the mushroom tart strip with a superbly dressed frisee and the sea urchin with warm scramble eggs were both absolute winners, presentation, taste and appeal . After some pointed questions about the rabbit roulade preparations to the waiter who had not been properly briefed and needed to check with the kitchen, I opted for it. I was having dreamy reminiscences of the civet de lapin wrapped in caul fat served with a jus at Le Bec Fin some years back. My partner had decided on the halibut with a porcini jus which I also got to taste. To our dismay, both were seriously disappointing. As delicate a flavor as fresh domestic rabbit has, these slices of rabbit roulade tasted like the blandest of warmed up deli style turkey rolls, with no fresh flavors or remarkable seasonings. I reached over for a taste of the halibut, which next to turbot would have ranked in my book as ideal for poaching, but my first mouthful was mushy! What? My partner assured me the other end was still flaky, which it was but not the fresh flakes of perfectly fresh fish or a perfect poaching. Our essentially gluten free dessert choices of the semi freddo and the panna cotta were just alright. We both enjoyed our cocktails, each to his/her taste and the Fixin burgundy was satisfactory if a bit steep for a 2015. Maybe there were some trick or treaters out early after all. There is is always hope in the air in Philly and no dearth of top restaurants in the city and some yet to be discovered, perhaps, in Jean Georges Vongerichten's new digs at the top of the Four Season for a four star experience next year. Good luck to Greg Vernick at his own new dig at ground level in the Comcast under his mentor.
We had a great dinner here--the food was unique, delicious and very satisfying. We enjoyed items from each coarse and had good service. Although it is not inexpensive ($15 apps/ $30 meals), it lived up to its foodie reputation and we would go back again for sure when back in Philadelphia.
WOW is about all I can say. The food here is beyond fabulous. We had the Maryland crab on toast which was delicious and the lobster tartare was to die for! This place is so worth a visit. I go to good restaurants all the time, but this is amazing. The service was also excellent. Do yourself a favor and check this place out!
Great service, great tasting food, but this is a place you will drop $100 on dinner for 2 and leave still feeling hungry. I would only recommend if either they increased portions or if a friend specifically wanted gourmet. Again, the service was great, food tasted great, but there simply wasn't enough, especially for the price.
Myself my wife and another couple spent several months trying to get a reservation but we are glad that we finally did as the experience was very good, food excellent, value representative of today's market. We all enjoyed it very well and we spent 4 hours through a few food services getting fattened up.
