While the food was outstanding in every way, our server was impolite and acted bothered to wait on us. When we asked for recommendations on vegetables to order, he told us “everything is good - obviously.” It made us feel embarrassed that we asked the question. Restaurant staff should not act aloof and above their clients. He also never bothered to ask how our food was. For a James Beard-winning restaurant, this is unacceptable. The young woman who delivered our meal also made a negative comment when I misunderstood the ingredients she described in the accompanying sauce. When did this fine restaurant go off the rails? Shameful.
Wonderful, carefully crafted cocktails and superb service. The dishes were flavorful and quite unique. I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m in Philly.
This place is amazing. Been here twice and it was awesome both times. Love the toast appetizers and the sea bass entree is excellent. Just ate there two days ago and already want to go back. Not cheap but not outrageous either. Considering it’s one of the better restaurants in the city, prIces are reasonable. Would highly recommend.
We had a lovely meal here. We will definitely return.
Excellent service. Fabulous dinner! Highly recommend it
Loved this restaurant the food and majority of the staff was great. We had a pretty uninterested waitress that probably will keep us from coming back too frequently but we did have a great meal.
This was just an overall great night. Other than the draft we felt sitting next to the window the food and service was wonderful. It was an extremely windy night so we understood the reason for the draft.
Best dinner we've had in Philadelphia. Stayed in Philly for 3 nights and was only able to get reservations here the last night at 9:15 pm. I called a couple hours earlier than our reservation time and they were able to find a table that had come available early and said to come on in. From there everything met and/or exceeded our expectations. We have paid much more at other restaurants for inferior food, service and ambiance.
This has to be the best dining out experience I’ve ever had. The food was so well crafted with so many different flavors, it was amazing to get each plate we ordered because it was something completely new. I have celiac and out waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful in determining what menus items I could have, and separating the gluten free items away from the gluten items on shared plates so I could enjoy them. Will return again!!
This is our favorite Philly restaurant. The food is inventive and delicious. The service is friendly, well-paced and professional. Overall, it is a wonderful dining experience.
The space is small but very special. The food is truly outstanding, and the service is way above average. I will be back
This restaurant was unfortunately disappointing.
My biggest issue here was due to an allergy constraint. I'm celiac, which is not that hard to accommodate unless you put soy sauce in every dish on the menu. And soy sauce is such an EASY ingredient to switch to tamari sauce (which is actually made of soy and tastes exactly the same) to be inclusive and not make it an issue.
They did say with a few days notice they could have been more accommodating but it's ridiculous to have to call two days in advance to have more than two options on the menu.
It was also very loud in the dining area and difficult to talk to each other. The service was impeccable though, Ray did a great job and was attentive and as helpful as possible despite the fact that the chef's choices limited my ability to appreciate the menu.
Incredible food with perfect pairings of flavor. Our server was not having a good night but the food made it worth coming back again! We spoke with the manager who handled the situation with professionalism and courtesy.
The best dining experience we ever had. Everything was superb.
Vernick is arguably the best restaurant in Philadelphia. Four of us shared every dish and we all agreed that every dish was spectacular. So were the cocktails, wine and service. It’s already next to impossible to get a reservation here but it’s well worth the effort to try.
I had spicy peanut broccoli and grilled Romain. The pumpkin amuse was splendid. My husband had crab on toast and the lobster salad which was the special. Earl Grey panacota was lovely.
I absolutely loved everything about dinner here. The food was delicious, but I was completely astounded by the service. Never have I ever experienced a staff so in sync with each other, so aware of the tables’ needs, and so willing to help one another out. I was blown away. Will be returning soon.
Wonderful meal; outstanding service; delicious food. Easy to see why Vernick has been named Philly's best restaurant!
Service and food was excellent. Great and unique wine selection. Ambiance is romantic and classic. The Crab and Fromage Toasts were excellent and tasty. Tuna small plate and broccoli sides were excellent. Oysters were fresh. Our large plate wasn’t particularly mind blowing. It was all delicious; however, we felt as though the large plate we ordered (pork) was comparable to gourmet pork dishes at many other center city Philadelphia restaurants. We also tried the lamb confit which I found tasty but too fatty to enjoy completely. Desert was also tasty but just ok (small brownie with dulce de leche ice cream and caramel). Overall I’d say the experience could be rated a 4.5/5 with no major complaints other than a lack of creativity with some menu items.
Food was incredible, our server was very sub par. Refused to explain the menu, offer recommendations, or simply be friendly. Despite the amazing food, the service really made our experience not the best for the price.
Bar choices were limited, no basket of bread, all dishes a la carte and pricey, no valet parking. That said, the oysters were the best I've had, the halibut/clam chowder - an interesting but good dish.
Amazing food and cocktails, very efficient service.
Deserves accolades as one of the top 5 in Philly. Will never hesitate to return.
Food was excellent my son ordered a venison and was the best he said he ever had. I will be back with my rest of the family.
As always, great food. Love their small plates so can sample more options. Love their steak tartare - the best in town!
It was a special occasion and they brought some bubbly to the table, very nice.
Always a hit
Vernick, as always, leaves me beyond satisfied. The toasts are unbelievable, the potato pave was delicious, and the chicken and Jewish Apple Cake were great. Service is always impeccable, and honestly, dinner there is a great value despite being such a highly regarded, high-end restaurant. Will return again and again.
Everything was incredible ! Both food and service. So happy to have scored a table for my fiancées birthday!
Simply delicious, eloquently prepared plates served by seasoned professionals. The smoked trout appetizer is way beyond expectations. A very, very special place
Food was very good. The toast section is amazing and the raw section amazing. The other dishes were good but not exceptional especially for the price
We had a wonderful server who helped guide us through the wine list and menu, every recommendation made was delicious.
The food came out in a timely fashion, and we never felt rushed even though we had a late reservation.
The restaurant itself is beautifully designed.
We had wanted to eat here for a while. Vernick did not disappoint in any way. The service was great. The food was amazing! So delicious! We want to go back to try everything else on the menu!
seems to be resting on their laurels. Used to be superb
Oh thank you so much to my friend Chris (server) and Lateyfah (bartender) for introducing this place to me😊😊 it’s a tradition for my boyfriend and I to celebrate our anniversary here every year ❤️❤️ food is amazing and service with a smile. Everyone is very professional and welcoming.
Vernick is incredible - the kind of place where you enjoy every single bite, not matter what you order. We wanted everything on the menu! Go to Vernick, you won't regret it!
I have been to Vernick several times, with my past visits being exceptional! This past visit the toast and small plates were also excellent. The wait time between the courses seemed very long. The wait staff was excellent and knew the menu perfectly. Unfortunately the dessert was horrible, apple cake with sweet crunchy things that tasted like Captain Crunch. It was too sweet and unimpressive.
We chose to dine at Vernick Food & Drink based on the buzz and ratings we had found. Located in a townhouse, with a lively bar downstairs and the bulk of the tables upstairs; we were seated right away. Our waiter was a little condescending at first, but once we talked through the menu, which is predominately plates to share, the attitude disappeared. We had some brut rose from Veneto with some oysters to start; there was also an amuse bouche of white cheddar gougere and turnip soup, which were fabulous. After spending a lot of time reviewing the menu, we settled on char-grilled beats, fire roasted greens with crispy egg and casear, potato pave and half an organic Amish chicken, which was absolutely fabulous. The waiter recommended we have the half chicken instead of the whole, which was good advice, since we were full when we finished it. We still made room for dessert: two petit brownies with dulce de leche ice cream and milk chocolate mousse. From the wine list, we selected the 2015 Chablis Premier Cru Vaucoupin. All in all, it was the best food we had in Philadelphia.
My husband (a chef) and I are very picky. We loved our meal at Vernick. A must try for anyone looking for amazing food in Philly.
Birthday. Chef and manager were great!
This was our second time dining at Vernicks. Everything about this restaurant is perfect, the food, the ambiance and service. No wonder you have to book this place so far in advance.
