Vernick Food & Drink Ratings and Reviews
Vernick, as always, leaves me beyond satisfied. The toasts are unbelievable, the potato pave was delicious, and the chicken and Jewish Apple Cake were great. Service is always impeccable, and honestly, dinner there is a great value despite being such a highly regarded, high-end restaurant. Will return again and again.
We had a wonderful server who helped guide us through the wine list and menu, every recommendation made was delicious.
The food came out in a timely fashion, and we never felt rushed even though we had a late reservation.
The restaurant itself is beautifully designed.
Oh thank you so much to my friend Chris (server) and Lateyfah (bartender) for introducing this place to me😊😊 it’s a tradition for my boyfriend and I to celebrate our anniversary here every year ❤️❤️ food is amazing and service with a smile. Everyone is very professional and welcoming.
I have been to Vernick several times, with my past visits being exceptional! This past visit the toast and small plates were also excellent. The wait time between the courses seemed very long. The wait staff was excellent and knew the menu perfectly. Unfortunately the dessert was horrible, apple cake with sweet crunchy things that tasted like Captain Crunch. It was too sweet and unimpressive.
We chose to dine at Vernick Food & Drink based on the buzz and ratings we had found. Located in a townhouse, with a lively bar downstairs and the bulk of the tables upstairs; we were seated right away. Our waiter was a little condescending at first, but once we talked through the menu, which is predominately plates to share, the attitude disappeared. We had some brut rose from Veneto with some oysters to start; there was also an amuse bouche of white cheddar gougere and turnip soup, which were fabulous. After spending a lot of time reviewing the menu, we settled on char-grilled beats, fire roasted greens with crispy egg and casear, potato pave and half an organic Amish chicken, which was absolutely fabulous. The waiter recommended we have the half chicken instead of the whole, which was good advice, since we were full when we finished it. We still made room for dessert: two petit brownies with dulce de leche ice cream and milk chocolate mousse. From the wine list, we selected the 2015 Chablis Premier Cru Vaucoupin. All in all, it was the best food we had in Philadelphia.
The food was very good; a lot of attention to detail in every respect with the meal, sauces, presentation, were all spot on, although we thought the menu was somewhat limited. Pumpkin with brown butter sauce was was simple but tasty. Halibut was outstanding. Apple cake was good. However, we felt the noise level was way too high and we were crammed between two other tables. It was the holidays, so that could account for both issues. Our waiter gave us a great wine recommendation, but seemed somewhat annoyed when asked to explain preparation of a few dishes, which led us to feel there was a sense of elitism--that we were lucky to be there versus they were happy to have us. Again, maybe crowded holiday season contributed to our issues with atmosphere.
I was actually looking forward to the reservation and have been wanting to go there for the past two years. It did not live up to the hype and we were actually all disappointed in terms of the service being very slow and to top it all off it should not take 15 minutes to get water on the table.
Excellent food as always. Came the second time and it didn't disappoint. The mushroom special was out-of-this-world, as was the sage fazzoletti (?) with duck prosciutto. Truly fantastic. This is our "go-to" place for special occasions. Also, the pear ice cream was really something!
Vernick has been my favorite restaurant in Philly ever since I discovered it a few years ago. Whenever I am in town, one dinner at Vernick is a must. The Maryland crab toast is to die for, as are the raw fish dishes and various small plates. The cocktails are inventive and good.
THIS PLACE IS A MUST!! Service was so professional, cocktails were so vibrant, and most importantly all the dishes were very, very creative and had so many flavors. I enjoyed more of toasts and small plates than the large one, which I could expect the taste of it, but in general, everything was awesome. Perfect ambiance, too.
We were lucky enough to be seated at the Chef’s Counter (6 seats) where you can ask questions of the chefs on the line and interact with Chef Vernick himself. This coupled with the absolutely incredible food made for a most special dining experience. I highly recommend the grilled romaine, beef tartare toast, and the sea urchin with scrambled egg, but nothing on the menu will disappoint!
First time there. Food was amazing. We sat at the bar. Showed up 17 mins late and they gave away table. They offered another one after 10 mins at the bar but we decided to stay there. Bartender, Ethan, was one of the best we have ever had. His food recommendations were spot on and he kept up with interesting talk. We had short rib ragu with fettuccini and 1/2 chicken. The service was impeccable! Everything came out in perfect timing. Other then the lost table, this was one of our best dining experiences in a long time. Would highly recommend
Great Dining Experience !! We went for a Special Anniversary. Our reservation was honored upon our arrival. Our waitress acknowledged that it was our anniversary and presented us with a complimentary glass of champagne. What a nice surprise !! She was very attentive and helpful in going over the menu. Our food was delicious as was the bottle of wine we ordered. It was a wonderful evening !! We look forward to our next visit.
