We had high hopes for Vernick after seeing that Greg Vernick won a James Beard for Best Chef: Mid Atlantic in 2017. Overall the food was flavorful and innovative, and we enjoyed our meal, however, some of the dishes were extremely over-salted.
We loved the fromage blanc and ramps and the steak tartare toasts. The eggplant dish made the entire meal "worth it", though the tomato fondue was a bit on the salty side. The gnocchi with peas and morels should have been a beautiful spring dish, but was completely overwhelmed by the amount of salt in the sauce. The gnocchi itself was surprisingly light and delightful. The chocolate cake was underwhelming, though the cardamom mousse that accompanied it was terrific.
Cocktails were balanced. Service was excellent!
If we lived in town we would give this place a try again for the toasts and service, but probably would not recommend as "the" place to visit for those coming from out of town for the weekend, as we were.
Food excellent , service a bit spotty
Service was excellent, and the halibut to die for. Very good overall experience, chose three courses plus dessert and was very happy at each stage of the meal. Good experience, and will go back next time I visit.
Would go back again soon.
Such an amazing meal! Thank you.
First time at Vernick after having to cancel several reservations made far in advance. Probably among the top 10 meals in my lifetime! Loved it from cocktail to dessert.
Excellent in every way. Always consistent
From start to finish it was a great dining experience.
One of the best meals we had ever had anywhere including France. Everything was delicious and the preparations were very imaginative and beautifully presented. IWe split the grilled Romaine salad and faux gras appetizer . They were outstanding and very filling. The chicken and beef coulottes were equally great.
This was our second visit to Vernick. We were seated in the kitchen area which was a little loud, but still very enjoyable. The meal was excellent. We started with squid ink capellini then had halibut and sea bass. Finished with the strawberry tart. I didn’t feel uncomfortably full, but rather, just right. The cocktail with rooibus tea was delightful. We’ll definitely return.
Food and service are very good, but we were at a table by the window that was uncomfortably small. The diner at the table next to us had her back touching the edge of our table. Our server could not set the table with silverware without them having to touch. Being this cramped is OK for a quick lunch, but not for dinner.
Went out on a date here and this place was one of the best highlights. The restaurant blends well with the surrounding buildings and has an amazing upstairs. As we walk inside to check in, we were greeted by the nice hostess and was even greeted by each staff member in the restaurant that I could see while walking to the table. The food was AMAZING along with the scenery and vibe throughout the restaurant. This place is a bit pricey but highly recommend 10/10
Vernick prepared one of the best meals I’ve had in Philadelphia. Each dish was more flavorful than the one before it.
Everyone raves about Vernick and I agree the food is excellent. Especially the toast and small plates. I have been there twice now and both times I wasn't thrilled with the service. It is one thing to allow a leisurely dining experience and it is another to have very slow service. Our server never checked in us and wasn't particularly friendly. The table next to us had to ask for the soup that she saw we received (it was complimentary to everyone and very good). My mistake was to think dinner would only be an hour or so - it was over an hour and half. I do recommend going but just know to allow plenty of time. Also, it doesn't look like they take reservation other than around 5:00 and after 8:00 but there were plenty of tables available when we were there at 6:30 - 7:00 (our reservations were for 5:30). Since I don't live in town I can not just pop in and hope they have a table. If I could get a reservation more easily - I would go more often - the toast is really incredibly delicious - especially the crab.
It’s the best restaurant in Philadelphia. Service is perfect.
I had a wonderful time, I'll recommend, and come again.
My wife and I dine at Vernick quite often. From the time you enter the door you know something special is about to happen. The service, food and drinks are amazing. I highly recommend Vernick for any occasion.
Great night. The food was amazing. So happy we were finally able to snag a reservation!
One of the best meals I have had in a long time. Each dish that came out was better than the last! Perfect birthday celebration!
Was hands down the best food I have ever had, I have been all over the world eating at some of the best restaurants known to man, and what is different about this place is I was full, some other fine dining places you leave and your hungry, so hats off to the owner/chef. I will definitely come back
Great experience at Vernicks! Our server, Kimberly, was terrific! Very knowledgeable and professional! Food was a 10! Enjoyed multi small plates, all which were delicious! Highly recommend this restaurant for foodies!!
Best meal I’ve had in a long time. Not much compares to this place. I put this in my top 3 in the city and can’t wait to go back.
Food good service good ambiance loud.
Awesome place. Food is truly exceptional and very attentive service.
We really enjoyed our visit. Vernick was everything we expected and more. Well earned reputation for superb food, prepared well.
Great as always. Really a gem in Philly.
Excellent in all ways!
as always, we love eating at vernick. the food is exceptional as well as the creativity.
will always go back......................barbara and stephen goldstein
everything was absolutely perfect. nothing more to say! I already made another reservation.
The service was outstanding. Our waitress was able to describe every wine, all wines are poured for a taste before a glass and she did a fantastic job describing the dishes. Descriptions are super important because so many things are exotic. The portion sizes were fun to share. The atmosphere is beautiful and the noise level is low so it was easy to catch up with my friend. The view our the window including the window boxes full of flowers was beautiful. I love Vernick!
Nice atmosphere very good food
The food is excellent. We have been there twice and will be back.
Phenomenal, creative food. Excellent cocktails. Great service. We were not rushed. The portions are on the large side, especially the small plates on toast.
Chefs counter was awesome.
2nd time here. Ate at hungry pigeon and not impressed. Came to vernick afterward. Foi grois is to die for and Arctic char is amazing. Main entree's are overrated but the toast dishes and raw dishes are superb
Perfect everything. Sara took great care of us. We will be back ASAP.
The food was special, but the service was even better. Expensive, but worth it.
While the food was outstanding in every way, our server was impolite and acted bothered to wait on us. When we asked for recommendations on vegetables to order, he told us “everything is good - obviously.” It made us feel embarrassed that we asked the question. Restaurant staff should not act aloof and above their clients. He also never bothered to ask how our food was. For a James Beard-winning restaurant, this is unacceptable. The young woman who delivered our meal also made a negative comment when I misunderstood the ingredients she described in the accompanying sauce. When did this fine restaurant go off the rails? Shameful.
Wonderful, carefully crafted cocktails and superb service. The dishes were flavorful and quite unique. I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m in Philly.
This place is amazing. Been here twice and it was awesome both times. Love the toast appetizers and the sea bass entree is excellent. Just ate there two days ago and already want to go back. Not cheap but not outrageous either. Considering it’s one of the better restaurants in the city, prIces are reasonable. Would highly recommend.
