The food and service were wonderful. My wife has some severe food allergies and they did a great job directing us to dishes she could eat as well as modifying some dishes as needed. We will definitely return.

The fusion of Indian and Latin food really gave our tastebuds a nice kick! We reliahed the food. The quantity was good for two people. The ambience not so much! They need to atleast het their fused lights fixed !
It was a fast service!
Overall our experience was good!

Our waiter was very gracious but unfortunately the food service is super slow. It took them over 1 hour to serve food. We were expecting warm/hot food with how long we had waited but unfortunately it was warm at best. Our order was not complicated but still took so long. The menu features fancy dishes with fancy names but actual food served was average e.g. for Gobi Portuguese - coconut rice is regular white rice + cream of coconut served on the side (canned cream) and the cauliflower was undercooked. Also my dish was supposed to come with eggplant chips which they did not include. In short I paid $100 for 2 hrs dining, not all items served and semi cold food. Disappointing for Chicago downtown restaurant.

Service was slow and unprofessional. Wait staff would disappear for 30 min at a time. Drinks and food brought out 1 by 1. Had to wait 15 min to be seated at a reservation at a mostly empty restaurant. They also have menus with different prices. Either way, over priced and terrible experince. Dont go.

Food was excellent. Love the food. Service was not. Took way too long. We had three different servers. Food was served and had to wait for 15 minutes for any kind of knife. Ordered wine, but another wine was served. Have no idea why. The server didn’t even show it to me before pouring it in all the glasses at the table. Don’t know if the wine was a different price than the one I ordered, because I never got an itemized bill. At the end, we were told the espresso machine was broken. So we ordered coffee and tea. After paying the bill, which included the coffee and tea presumably, the coffee and tea never came. So we left.

a good restaurant week trial! not disappointed! saw things on menu (tasting course with EIGHT things! yum!) that convinces us to go back! week night visit. it was slow, but ONE waitress, ONE bartender did dual roles to take care of everyone very well. If you go and service is slow, relax! the food is worth the wait.
never heard of Latin/Indian fusion, but they've done a fine job. Nice people there. hope they're around a long time and plenty of people discover them.
try the duck vindaloo and the tamarind ribs! both awesome! drink called "devil in the white city" is very metropolitan and goes so nicely with those delish churros for dessert! try this place!

The food was good; however, the service left us little to be desired. While it seemed like there were enough servers, there was a lack of organization and the food took forever to come. Moreover, we didn't seem to have a dedicated server, so it was confusing to figure out which person to ask for our requests.

Great tasting food but very very slow service from the kitchen. It was a weekday dinner with only one other group of 3 ladies at the restaurant. Yet the food took way above 20 minutes to arrive. We asked for one extra Naan order and that took another 30minutes to come. Wonder how they manage when it’s busier.

2nd time in over 12 month period I had the same experience. We were the only customers (4ppl) in restaurant for duration of meal and the restaurant was freezing.

This place used to be more festive and fun, but was pretty quiet (dead for a Saturday night, relatively speaking). There didn't seem to actually be any waiters or waitresses - just a hostess and another manager type doing these duties. It took 15 minutes to even get someone to come over to us for our drink order. Service was at a snail's pace throughout and the lack of festive ambiance was very noticeable to say the least. Strange since the place only have 3-4 tables full of patrons?

We used to come here for special occasions, and even though the food is still very good (not amazing, but very good)... I'm afraid we can't recommend. They desperately need to overhaul their service, hire an actual bartender, update the decor, etc., if they want to be what they once were (and if they want to avoid closing their doors). It's depressing more than anything else, since it was once such a fun and interesting destination. Not sure if we'll be back, I'm sorry to say...!

It took nearly 20 minutes to get in our drink order after arriving - despite only 4 tables in use, there were no servers attending us. We had to wave emphatically to flag down a server.

The restaurant had the lighting set at the brightest. When we commented about it, we were told that it was because it was dark during the day (it's now 8PM at night), and they didn't do anything about it.

We used to be regulars at this restaurant. It was one of our favorite places to eat, but the service and ambiance have gone to hell. The food is still great, but quite out of place now.

Very good food. Very nice service (the waitress was alone but lovely). The only thing that the restaurant could do much better is the decoration / ambiance, which is really outdated and a little kitch. Not much would be required to modernize a lot the place.

We have been to Vermilion many times. They have a very interesting blend of Latin and Indian dishes that are found nowhere else. Often pretty spicey but not all. Very much worth going to. One of our favorite places.

We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and had dinner here. Absolutely wonderful staff who made us feel special. The drinks were outstanding and the food was delicious. We will be back for more.

Excellent vegan tasting menu. Upscale atmosphere. The restaurant still has problems with timing and inattentive service. Service, when you get it, is always very friendly and wonderful though. I think they are just understaffed.

No other diners at 6pm on Sunday night after the Chicago Marathon when every other restaurant on the street was packed. Good+ food and good+ service but terrible atmosphere. The interior looks like a nightclub rather than a finer dining restaurant. The music was a local radio station with advertisements between songs. The presentation of some dishes is awkward. $10+ appetizers and $30+ main courses demand a better dining room and music.

We were pleasantly surprised by our meal at Vermilion! The food and delivery were very creative and definitely delicious. Our appetizer rolled out on a bicycle; so cute! We especially enjoyed the fusion flare in each dish and are certainly looking to coming back for the brunch dishes!

This is our second time here and the food is amazing! There have never been more than 4 other tables occupied and I just don't understand why this place isn't busier. My husband and I are vegan and their vegan options are outstanding and really creative. We went with meat eaters and they loved their dishes, as well. The service is hit or miss and the bar is underwhelming, but the food more than makes up for it.
