While it was not crowded, I have to wind why as the food and service were great!
Very disappointed this time, I’ve always had an excellent experience at Vermillion but it was very weak . I ordered the sea... and it was just not the same and we actually was not served all on menu but we just decided to leave after bill and not complain
because I was so unhappy after talking this restaurant up.
I always like the food and the atmosphere here. It did not disappoint. The service was great and efficient and kind since we had a bit of a time crunch. Two small recommendations- a slightly wider wine list would be great- There was a gap in price in the mid-range. Also valet parking or an obvious sign for it would help. I will be back for the food soon!
Great dinner - exceptional food, abundant service, wonderful atmosphere!
The food was creative and taste. The scallops was the best I have ever had. Spice but yet the taste of the scallops was not masked. The ambience was perfect.
Plz have ketchup available. Basic sauces are important to satisfy different taste buds. Maybe some Naan bread with dishes that are saucy.
Went during restaurant week to try it out. Everything we ate was flavorful. The staff was knowledgeable snout the food and was able to explain everything on the menu. The standard menu is very pricey. Would only go back for a special occasion.
We had greta time and meal even i was going with some of the feedbacks are not great. We had the restaurant week menu and it was very tasty.
That food is amazing! We went about 6 years ago during a visit to Chicago and fell in love with the food and menu! We were glad to visit again in January of 2020 and it did not disappoint!! Highly recommended!!
I’ve wanted to eat here for years and was finally able to convince a friend to try it out. The feel of the restaurant is trendy but in a comfortable way. The hostess was very welcoming, great first impression! The menu options were great and the wine menu was impressive. Our hostess took our drink and food orders, but the timing of food coming out and removed from the table was unexpectedly slow - over 2 hours for dinner for two. The restaurant did appear short staffed; 1 waitress, 1 hostess, 1 food runner/table support. The food, thankfully, was amazing! Great flavors, balance of heat and spicy, and wonderful presentation. I’m more than willing to come back and hopefully have a different service experience.
Amazing food. Great service. The flavors were out of this world. I'd love to come back for a second bite.
interesting and tasty food, served efficiently and with a smile. would go back. the lychee/jalepeno salsa was AMAZING. don't let the 'no one there' comments dissuade you from trying this unique restaurant. instead, enjoy the quiet pace and friendly staff.
Haven't visited in years so a girlfriend and I thought restaurant week would be the perfect time. The food is still as delicious as before! Very flavorful and artistic in presentation. Great service.
The food was fine, the service was friendly, the atmosphere was depressing—only a few tables of diners on a Saturday night. No need to dine here again.
We were at Vermilion on New Year's Eve for their prix fixe menu and it was probably our fourth or fifth time there. The food, as always, was sensational. The service, as always, was outstanding. We love the ambiance as well. At $60 for five delicious, creative, and generous courses, we thought it was a good value. I hesitated to give a straight 5-star rating because the wines by the glass were the smallest pours we've ever (ever!) received in a restaurant.
We celebrated early New Year’s Eve and as usual they made it so special! We had a table cloth with roses set up so beautiful! We got an appetizer as compliments of the chef as well! We had amazing drinks and food as usual which were super delicious! Loved our waitress Deandra ! She was our bartender , waitress and hostess extraordinaire !!! Can’t wait to go back real soon !!! ♥️♥️
The food ranged from good to excellent, and service was solid. So, while I have no regrets about visiting and enjoyed the meal, I would certainly try other restaurants before returning.
The food was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!
We were the only ones there for first half hour. 2 other tables by the time we left. That said food and service were very good. Weird vibe in the place though. We were told that a refresh was coming. May check it out after that.
We enjoyed the creative and variety of Indian and Latin inspired dishes. Service was attentive and helpful throughout our meal.
My husband and I went to a matinee of Hamilton and came here afterwards. We researched restaurants near our hotel that were on Open Table and highly rated. We loved the sound of this one with the fusion of Indian and Latin. It was excellent!!
Not very good food. The butter chicken had no taste like butter chicken. The fish was not good either. It was overpriced. Not very priced.
Great flavors with a little good heat, funky cool atmosphere
Deandra was amazing! We were celebrating my cousins birthday and she had the table decorated beautifully and took really good care of us! Thank you!
Reunion of college friends.
If it hadn't been for having to get up from our table to chase down our server after waiting nearly a half hour for the check (dessert had been finished and cleared), it would have been a completely outstanding evening. It was like we turned invisible once we stopped eating and drinking.
Interesting combinations of flavors. For the advanced palate. It felt a little deserted on a Sunday evening.
Most underrated restaurant in Chicago
Definitely not your normal Indian fare ,
It’s incredible dishes are new to all and all delicious
Food was great! Portions are mid size, but packed with flavor. Ambience is great, perfect for a romantic date. ❤️
We were in Chicago past weekend because my husband ran CHICAGO Marathon and the same evening we decided to dine at Vermilion. I read about the impressive credentials of Chef Rohini and concept and menu sounded very interesting.
Somehow that day their heater broke so the place was so cold we kept our jackets on while we had dinner!
The presentation of food was unique and so did some combination- but overall taste and freshness of the food was not that great. It was very disappointing.
I was super excited to visit this restaurant and it did not met my expectations at all.
The food at Vermilion is excellent. We have been there numerous times and have our favorites. We were sad to hear that some favorites are being discontinued. My main complaint with our recent visit is that, while we went much earlier than usual (5:15 p.m), when we walked in the door all we could smell was a super strong disinfectant cleaning smell (like Lysol or PineSol). It was over powering and really interfered with feeling great on arriving at a favorite place. But it also interfered with the signals that this is a place with great food - the signal was, rather, that of a recently cleaned public restroom. While we, of course, want things to be impeccably clean, this particular and strong smell was really off-putting. Nevertheless, the food was excellent.
This was our 3rd visit to Vermilion, and will be our last. It seems that it is trying to ride on the reputation of Chef Chauhan. We visited on a Wednesday evening. The ambiance from before is gone - the lights were bright, the drapes were gone, and it smelled like disinfectant. There were only 3 tables in the restaurant, including ours. The front of house person was friendly, but seemed way out of his element. He was serving all 3 tables and tending bar as well. Service was very slow. We were there for 1-1/2 hours and no one took our entree order. We had a bottle of wine and 2 starters, which were good, but decided to cut our losses and leave. Too many fantastic restaurants in Chicago. I don't expect they will be open for long unless something chanages.
Friends get together - food was good but not enough food for the price. It was very dull on a Friday evening with just two other groups, wasn’t lively
extremely rude. didnt even make it cause a guy called me on the phone very arrogant asking if i was coming or not (1 hour before the dinner and VERY rude) this restaurant is always empty... now i know why!
Unique food preparation and careful service makes this a special place.
Food was very good and reasonably priced. Service excellent. On a Friday evening there were only a few parties in a very large restaurant.
Not so great food. Not worth at all.
Had a great experience.. amazing food very frndly staff... a must visit place
Service and food was excellent!
