Vermilion - Alexandria Ratings and Reviews
The skirt steak dish came out cold and lacked seasoning. The lamb cavatelli did not have pieces of lamb was more like the sauce was just favored with lamb. Will not be back for food. Would only recommend for a cocktail/wine at the bar because the scene and decor is nice.
We have come here for our Anniversary for the past 3 years. Every year the food is top notch and rhe service matches!
This year was even better as they personally wished us a happy anniversary and gave us a complimentary, off menu, dessert with a hand scripted chocolate plaque that said Happy Anniversary on it.
I was amazed by how personal they made the evening feel.
Food was delicious, surprising flavor combinations. Each uniquely different. Staff was professional without being stodgy, and was knowledgeable regarding the dishes being served.
Would recommend for any one who enjoys dining on meals prepared with creative combinations and artfully presented.
We had heard great reviews about Vermillion so we decided to try it. The foie gras was good not great. I like it seared thinner and with a more creative sauce. Presentation was one big glob of foie gras. My pasta with duck confit was ok and I chose it because I do not like lamb and the other choices were not appetizing to me. I prefer my pasta with maybe shrimp or mussels or just a great white sauce, mushrooms without the meat. The duck pieces were large and came from the leg so it had the grizzle on it. My husband had the port and it was good. Did not have dessert, The service was EXCELLENT. Great server! This would not be my first choice. Want to try Restaurant Eve in Old Town next time.
Wow! We came to Vermillion for a birthday date--it's been a week or more and we're still talking about the dishes. A huge tip is to go to the first tuesday of the month Farm Table dinner. You'll have to make reservations in advance but WOW it is incredibly worth it. The service was fantastic, the wine pairings were on point (this is coming from someone who usually finds at least a couple wine pairings every evening to disagree with), and the food was creative, thoughtful, and local. I can't say just how impressed we are with Vermillion. Thank you for the incredible evening.
My wife and I celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary at Vermillion and could not be happier with the experience. The ambiance was great, our table was ready on time, and the service was outstanding. They made us feel very special, brought us champagne, delicious dessert and a personalized happy anniversary card. If you're a picky eater, this small menu may not be for you. Overall, we had an excellent night and will definitely be back in the future!
Went for my wife's birthday, from the moment we walked in everything was great. Hostess was wonderful & accommodating...she secured us a prime window table for the occasion. We had a drink at the bar before we sat down, and we were treated so well by the bar staff that we made it a point to go back after our meal. The let us try several drinks when we weren't quite sure what to get, the bartenders were funny engaging & made my wife a special cocktail for her birthday. The room was cozy, not too bright/not too dark, and you could have a conversation at a comfortable volume level.Once we sat down our server was equally fantastic. He made great entree suggestions, selected the perfect wine paring and was very nice and professional. The courses were timed perfectly and that food was fantastic. I get the feeling that this used to be more of a Olde Town hot spot back in the day, but do yourself a favor and go there...it was perfect.
One of my favorite in the DC area. Great service and super attentive staff. Good was of s very high quality, although I have had equally good good at a more reasonable price point. The only negative, other than overall value, was desert. Options were limited and the portions small. I felt like they ran out of chocolate ice cream and only half filled my cup. Not in line with the price or the restaurants reputation.
Although known as a steak house, we were there from Sunday brunch. There was a good mix of standard fare, done well, and a few items that were unique to the Vermilion - I would characterize the uniqueness as being modern, southern-inspired. We sat upstairs which was more informal, with a great view for people watching along King St. The service was impeccable, and the food above standard quality. I found the prices to be reasonable and just about right - which is becoming hard in the pre-fab locales like the wharf, riverside or national harbor where the food is okay and always $5-10 too much for the quality. We will definitely be going back to try Vermilion for dinner.
Everything was pretty well done. Service was attentive and fairly professional. Food was good. Setting is very nice - cozy and charming. I was just left with the impression that I did not feel particularly blown away for the $200 I spent. Solid but unspectacular.
My husband and I went to Vermilion to celebrate my birthday. We wanted something special and different and drove all the way from Silver Spring, MD to Old Town, VA. It was worth it, from the house crafted cocktails to the deserts. All of our food was excellent. I especially recommend the “Olive Oil Cake” the name of the cake and its menu description do not begin to do it justice. We will go to Vermilion again in spite of the drive time.
Oh thank goodness. We moved to Alexandria from Manhattan a few months back and yes, we arrived as kinda those food snobs from the big city. And yes, we sadly picked our way through the Alexandria restaurant scene trying to find a place that was just that bit nicer for a date or special occasion. And everywhere was, y'know, ok. Ish.
But then we came across this gem. The food is AMAZING, the wines are imaginative, the decor is lovely and the service, well, it's the best service we've had in a very, very long time. It manages to mix a kind of old town charm, with the best of fine dining, and deeply friendly wait-staff seamlessly blended in.
