Vermilion - Alexandria Ratings and Reviews
Great food. The server was pretty snooty, unfortunately. Any response beyond one word seemed excessive to her. She definitely likes to keep her interactions as strictly business so it made our experience a bit uncomfortable, especially for a birthday brunch. That said, the food is always great at Vermillion so that's a huge pro. The hostess was fabulous. This server was the anomaly to the usual experience.
A wonderful evening. Really enjoyed the flight of wine and the octopus was amazing! It does get loud but a cozy atmosphere. Service was friendly and on point. The food was delicious and we really appreciated the focaccia in the bread basket. Will definitely return.
As always, a culinary and sensory experience. We try to celebrate most of our big events here, and the staff and chefs have made each event memorable with a special touch. We love the locally sourced food, and the wine is always topnotch with great suggestions for appropriate pairings. You can't go wrong with any of the choices on the menu. Highly recommend.
Maybe Vetmilion was just having a bad day. I had made an online reservation so expected some kind of seating plan. It took a full ten minutes for someone to greet me, although staff was whizzing by. The entire downstairs was empty, so not sure why everyone was too busy to say, we'll be right with you, or similar. Finally I was told to sit "wherever" and I waited another 15 minutes to be offered a beverage and a menu. The spicy chicken sandwich was a big fried red glob of hard shellac encasing overcooked, tough chicken with a dried up slice of cheese stuck to it. My friend's farmer's eggs were also overcooked. I will not be back.
I took my GF here based on a recommendation and it did not disappoint. The service was great and the food was incredible. Our waiter, Ken, was super friendly and gave some good recommendations. He asked if there was a special occasion and then ended up giving a free dessert, on the house! The place was cozy and intimate so I would definitely recommend.
We were celebrating our anniversary, and the staff couldn't have been nicer. Our food was wonderful! They even brought us a special anniversary dessert and each of us a sparkling glass of wine. We love Old Town Alexandria, and we will make sure to eat at Vermilion again!
What an extraordinary experience! From the time I made the reservation to the time we left our table, every step was amazing. My wife and I were celebrating a special occasion and the staff at Vermilion helped make it that much more of one. From the hostess to the bartenders to our wonderful waiter, Jay, everyone treated us like royalty.
The drinks at the bar are wonderful. There is an apple drink that's a must try and the beer selection is really good. Once seated you literally cannot make a bad selection. The farm fresh menu has items for any taste. My wife had the beef as an entree and it was to die for. Melted in your mouth. I had the duck and could not have been happier. I read one of the reviews that mentioned not licking the plate because it wasn't socially acceptable but my wife and I didn't care. You would have thought we hadn't eaten in weeks if you had seen how clean our plates were. Truly exceptional. We ordered a dessert which was very good but the restaurant sent us out a second one as well as two glasses of champagne to help us celebrate. I was blown away! They just took care of us at every turn like we had been coming there for years.
I couldn't recommend a restaurant with anymore vigor than I recommend this one. It was truly an amaze experience on so many levels.
My husband and I decided to take a trip to Alexandria for our wedding anniversary and booked a reservation here on a whim. We are so glad we did! The service was phenomenal! From the moment we walked in, we were treated well. They reserved a special table for us since we had told them we were celebrating an anniversary ahead of time via the one table app. We had a drink at the bar while we waited for them to prep the table and the bartender was friendly and helpful and offered us two glasses of champagne for a toast. A few minutes later we were taken to a beautiful intimate table by the window where two more glasses of champagne were brought to us by our waiter. I have a food allergy and the waiter was extremely helpful with checking with the kitchen to make sure I would be ok. The food was amazing! We would have licked our plates clean if it were socially acceptable. Because of my allergy we didn't order dessert, only coffee and tea but the waiter and the kitchen surprised us by bringing out a special off the menu dessert made just for me which really made me feel great. I would highly recommend Vermillion for anyone who has an allergy and would still like to experience a beautiful meal.
For someplace where you can easily spend $100/person (if you buy a couple bottles of wine, etc), the staff was anything but pretentious. Every single thing we consumed was amazing. The wait staff was very knowledgeable about every item and successful on the upsell (we bought a couple glasses of an amazing cognac after she brought us a taste of it). We will definitely come back to try the rest of the menu!
My wife and I went to Vermilion for an anniversary dinner and thought it was a wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion. The dinner was outstanding, and the menu offered tasty and innovative food selections. The service was exemplary. Our server, Amanda, was knowledgeable, friendly, and engaging without being intrusive. A perfect evening.
I must say, I'm a guy who likes big portions. The portions were smaller than I expected, but even having that considered, the food was some of the best I've ever had. The service was amazing, the Chef seemed to be trying new dishes and would bring out samples. I had a taste of a salmon tartare.
Very classy staff, great ambiance, excellent service. I'd give 6 stars if I could!
Exceptional service, amazing experience... from the moment I walked in the hostess was very attentive, the bartender was great (loved my drink). The dinner was divine. We enjoyed celebrating our friend's birthday (as we did the enjoy our anniversary dinner here few years ago).
Our family came here for Saturday brunch so this review is based on that. The restaurant was referred to us so I would try dinner here before I cross it off our lunch. I would not recommend any of the food items our family ordered. The spicy crispy chicken sandwich was too spicy and too crispy. It was served with fries. I thought it being a farm to table restaurant it would be healthy choices. I had the zucchini soup which was no more than 5-6 spoonfuls of soup with two pieces of lobster. For $13 I was expecting at least a bowl of soup. The building itself was cool like many historic buildings in Old Town. I would not recommend the brunch here but would give dinner a try.
Not many entree options (7 to be exact). Food lacked any flavor. I had the lamb Bolognese gnocchi. The lamb sauce was grainy and needed fresh basil, garlic, anything! Even a little fresh Parmesan on top could have saved it. That being said, the gnocchi was perfectly cooked, just hard to enjoy when the sauce is so mediocre. Husband got the duck. It was very fatty, which I know is good for flavor, but when you pay so much for such a small plate, you don't want to be cutting around fat the whole time. We just got back from France last month, so maybe our expectations were too high... No wine/drink menus were available when we were seated. Then when our server did bring us one (after we'd already ordered our entrees!), we were only given 1 menu for a table of 4. The men ordered beer and scotch, and the ladies wine. So by the time we all passed it around, we'd already been at the table for almost 30 minutes. We were given a beautiful table upstairs near the window and the ambiance is great. It is quiet and tastefully decorated. So many people have recommended Vermillion, so when my sister came into town I thought it was the perfect opportunity to give it a try. Maybe it was just an off day! I'd come back for drinks, but probably not again for dinner.
