Vermilion - Alexandria Ratings and Reviews
Wow! We came to Vermillion for a birthday date--it's been a week or more and we're still talking about the dishes. A huge tip is to go to the first tuesday of the month Farm Table dinner. You'll have to make reservations in advance but WOW it is incredibly worth it. The service was fantastic, the wine pairings were on point (this is coming from someone who usually finds at least a couple wine pairings every evening to disagree with), and the food was creative, thoughtful, and local. I can't say just how impressed we are with Vermillion. Thank you for the incredible evening.
My wife and I celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary at Vermillion and could not be happier with the experience. The ambiance was great, our table was ready on time, and the service was outstanding. They made us feel very special, brought us champagne, delicious dessert and a personalized happy anniversary card. If you're a picky eater, this small menu may not be for you. Overall, we had an excellent night and will definitely be back in the future!
Went for my wife's birthday, from the moment we walked in everything was great. Hostess was wonderful & accommodating...she secured us a prime window table for the occasion. We had a drink at the bar before we sat down, and we were treated so well by the bar staff that we made it a point to go back after our meal. The let us try several drinks when we weren't quite sure what to get, the bartenders were funny engaging & made my wife a special cocktail for her birthday. The room was cozy, not too bright/not too dark, and you could have a conversation at a comfortable volume level.Once we sat down our server was equally fantastic. He made great entree suggestions, selected the perfect wine paring and was very nice and professional. The courses were timed perfectly and that food was fantastic. I get the feeling that this used to be more of a Olde Town hot spot back in the day, but do yourself a favor and go there...it was perfect.
One of my favorite in the DC area. Great service and super attentive staff. Good was of s very high quality, although I have had equally good good at a more reasonable price point. The only negative, other than overall value, was desert. Options were limited and the portions small. I felt like they ran out of chocolate ice cream and only half filled my cup. Not in line with the price or the restaurants reputation.
Although known as a steak house, we were there from Sunday brunch. There was a good mix of standard fare, done well, and a few items that were unique to the Vermilion - I would characterize the uniqueness as being modern, southern-inspired. We sat upstairs which was more informal, with a great view for people watching along King St. The service was impeccable, and the food above standard quality. I found the prices to be reasonable and just about right - which is becoming hard in the pre-fab locales like the wharf, riverside or national harbor where the food is okay and always $5-10 too much for the quality. We will definitely be going back to try Vermilion for dinner.
Everything was pretty well done. Service was attentive and fairly professional. Food was good. Setting is very nice - cozy and charming. I was just left with the impression that I did not feel particularly blown away for the $200 I spent. Solid but unspectacular.
My husband and I went to Vermilion to celebrate my birthday. We wanted something special and different and drove all the way from Silver Spring, MD to Old Town, VA. It was worth it, from the house crafted cocktails to the deserts. All of our food was excellent. I especially recommend the “Olive Oil Cake” the name of the cake and its menu description do not begin to do it justice. We will go to Vermilion again in spite of the drive time.
Oh thank goodness. We moved to Alexandria from Manhattan a few months back and yes, we arrived as kinda those food snobs from the big city. And yes, we sadly picked our way through the Alexandria restaurant scene trying to find a place that was just that bit nicer for a date or special occasion. And everywhere was, y'know, ok. Ish.
But then we came across this gem. The food is AMAZING, the wines are imaginative, the decor is lovely and the service, well, it's the best service we've had in a very, very long time. It manages to mix a kind of old town charm, with the best of fine dining, and deeply friendly wait-staff seamlessly blended in.
If you're looking for somewhere just really nice and a little bit special to go for dinner, please go here.
Nothing could have made this experience better. Food is sublime and Michelin worthy; service is intelligent, unobtrusive, and warm. This is truly a team of professionals, both in the back and front of house, firing on all cylinders in sync. Without a doubt one of the best restaurants I’ve been to this year.
Although this restaurant was highly rated and recommend, we were slightly disappointed. It was my birthday and we were greeted well, we had reservations, but were seated far away from what may be considered a more appealing window view. Our server was pleasant, but she seemed indifferent and not very forthcoming with information about the menu options, (tasting), or ingredients. After overhearing another male server telling two other tables about the tasting menu and favorites, as well as wine options, we asked our waitress if she had any info she wanted to share with us. After a blank stare, I asked about the tasting menu and she gave us a brief mention. The food was good, not super, but I wonder if we would have had a more attentive attendant, if our meal would have seemed better. We overheard the male attendant tell one of his tables about a wine that was not on the menu and it caught our ear as we have been to a Moldovan wine tasting recently and loved the wines. Our server never mentioned anything extra, so we asked the male server to tell us about it and we ordered a glass. At the end of our meal we thought something sweet was in order since it was my birthday, although we were full, told our waitress we would try to squeeze in a bite or two of a dessert. I guess the tradition (which we would have been very grateful for), here is to give a birthday dessert. BUT the waitress never mentioned it and let us order an additional dessert on top of the dessert we did not order, so we now had two desserts to eat when we were not sure we could eat the first one. It is just a shame there was not better communication, I think the night could have been a great success.
The mark of a good restaurant is both the level of service anD food. Vermilion achieved the highest mark on both. We enjoyed everything from the appetizers to the desserts. Alex provided great cocktail suggestions. We tried different pastas and they were all amazing. The veal agnolotti and the short ribs were especially tasty. I don't think you can make wrong choices here! Will definitely return!
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary there and we had a tremendous experience. Our waiter Ken was knowledgeable, friendly and made our evening even better than we could have imagined.
The food was beautifully prepared and brought out slowly so we could enjoy each course. The food was delicious (especially the octopus and the pasta dishes). Ken also recommended wines to go with each of our courses and they paired incredibly well.
We were treated to complimentary sparkling wine upon our arrival and an extra dessert for our celebration.
It is pricey but certainly reasonable for a special occasion.
We would recommend to anyone looking for a good night out with delightful food, amazing service and a romantic atmosphere.
Visited this restaurant last year to celebrate birthday and returned this year because that experience was so good. This year was just as good with food selections and taste were fantastic. Another couple next to us asked if our was as good as theirs. After confirming it was, we said were back because it was so good last year. Price fixed lunch was a bargain.
From the time we walked in until the moment we walked out, the service was exquisite and warm. The food -tasting menu - and wine was simply exceptional. I highly recommend the Vermillion for a dinner with friends or a special night with a special someone. Thoroughly enjoyable experience!
I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and we had a great time. I just mentioned it on the reservation page as to the reason for our visit and they sent a desert with a candle in it without any further prompt. Very good service. Octopus appetizer was probably my favorite of the dishes we tried. Short ribs and pasta were also great. A little disappointed in the peaches appetizer, but it was still pretty good.
