The soft shell crab is out of this world. The gnocchi was a little dense but delicious. The service was good but the temperature inside was very warm.

My favorite restaurant in dc area. Food is always amazing, beers on tap really good, ambiance fantastic. Price is really good for the quality!

We had a great experience at Vermillion! We’re new to town and wanted a nice place to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The staff treated us to champagne, a chef’s appetizer, and dessert. We chose homemade pasta dishes and they were amazing! Really loved it and will be back!

Vermillion impressed me and my wife more than ever on our last visit. The chef worked to accommodate our vegan requests and we had an outstanding meal. The Vegetable Tasting Menu was creative and full of flavor. And our server was thoughtful and attentive. Thanks Vermillion!

Nice spot. We ate upstairs which has a farmhouse vibe. It’s old town so I think they’re going for “here’s what it looked like in 1800.” The food was fabulous - very creative. The pacing was off. About 30 minutes between the pasta and the main course. And then about 25 until dessert. Spent a total of 2.5 hours in that chair which was a little too long for us.

Guillermo, server, outstanding - reat listener. Brian, runner - delightful, engaging, interested in food he delivered. Amuse bouche was out if this world! Tasting menu was great variety. Would have liked To see bottles of wine for wine pairing. I’m in tart dessert was way beyond expectation. The entire evening was wonderful.

The service and food was wonderful! They even created a personal mock-tail for my wife’s birthday since is pregnant and couldn’t drink.

The last time I ate there I enjoyed the baked clams, so I ordered them again. This time, the baked clams were 99 per cent bread crumbs. The pea shoot salad with pickled watermelon was good but took about 5 bites to finish off. The pan seared rockfish was dry.

We were here for our first year anniversary and we couldn’t be happier with our choice. The staff was so nice and attentive. We got the tasting menu with the wine pairings. The staff went very far out of their way to make our night special - thank you!

The staff was awesome-very attentive and engaging.
They greeted us and immediately referenced the special occasion we were celebrating.
The food was amazing and I appreciate that our waiter asked about any allergies or dietary restrictions.
We will definitely be back!!

Vermilion was perfect for our anniversary dinner. Had a fabulous table by the window where we could talk uninterrupted. Food was magnificent. I am a vegetarian foodie and my carrot falafel was perfectly cooked-crispy on the outside and warm, fluffy and soft inside. The veggies and purées added the perfect touch of moistness to a dish that always needs something to balance the naturally dry texture. My husband enjoyed his perfectly cooked scallops. The bread and butter was a real textural treat—glad there are only tastes so I did t spoil my dinner appetite.
Previously the Washington post review panned the macerated berries dessert. It has been reworked and far exceeded my expectations — rather new take on strawberry shortcake but with toasted brioche and burnt honey ice cream.
We were treated wonderfully for our special day—the little touches they added turned a great night into a fantastic one.

Loved the food and drinks. Was not very loud at all though we were sitting near some people. We ate downstairs and got a lot of beautiful light on Saturday.

We had a wonderful early evening dinner at Vermillion. My husband and I brought our 3 year old so we arrived before the dinner rush. Everyone- especially our waiter - was super friendly and welcoming. The food was outstanding. I had the fresh peach dish for an appetizer, the tagliatelle for dinner and the almond tart for desert- all scrumptious. The waiter made great recommendations for wine pairings. We’ll be back!

Wonderful small family gathering at Vermilion this week. I love this place. Food is always stellar, inventive and fresh. Drinks are fun and seasonal and their wine selection is nice. It was Wednesday Wine Night and the bottle we chose was not available so they honored the request and gave us a superior wine from the same region at the same price. What customer service! We will be back... often. Enjoy

Vermilion is our favorite restaurant in Old Town and every time we visit we confirm our opinion of it. This time, we did the tasting menu which was probably too much/too rich for us and we likely wouldn't do that again. But the food was great with one exception...the cobia (substituted for duck breast for reasons I don't know) was so fishy tasting as to to be inedible. They made up for it by bringing us an extra dessert, but I much rather would have had the duck breast which is in the tasting menu shown online. But this was a rare aberration for Vermilion. Normally, everything they do is great and, but for the cobia, that was true on this visit as well. The marcona almond tart dessert was SO good that we would come back there just for dessert, and may well do that sometime.

I can't conclude this review without giving a shout-out to our server, Skylar. She was simply awesome...great personality, very friendly, knowledgeable about everything on the menu and, in summary, everything you would want in a server. We have no doubt she will succeed in whatever endeavors she pursues.

The food was wonderful. The service also. The only thing I would recommend is more lighting up stairs. It was so dark that we could not see our dishes and had to use our telephones to see the food. Other than that everything was wonderful! We will definitely return.

Wonderful dinner! The only feedback for improvement would be for the waiter to highlight a little more about each wine during he chef tasting/wine pairing. It seemed the waiter was in a little bit of a rush.

This was our second time at Vermilion, and as with our previous visit, the food and service were excellent. Especially memorable was the goat cheese pansotti, which had a remarkable balance of contrasting flavors, between umami-rich braised lamb and what I can only describe as a hint of orange creamsicle - strangely delightful. It’s the sort of studied creativity that makes a chef more that just merely good. The staff was also courteous and knowledgeable.

Vermilion is an great example of high-end farm-to-table done right. Looking forward to future visits.
