Vermilion - Alexandria
Terrific meal with excellent service
Not inexpensive but good quality all around. Would happily come back.
Every dish we ordered was amazing and our waitress was fantastic. Great place!
Awesome food with excellent ambiance. Well worth the price. Will return for the duck dish soon!
It was...okay. Not bad at all, but not fantastic either
Previous experiences at Vermillion have been good to very good. This was my last visit. The service was very good, the food ok. However, every financial aspect of the experience was unprofessional, to put it politely. It was Valentine’s Day, so the menu was pre prix fixe, which is understandable. However, there was no price presented anywhere on opentable, the restaurant website, the menu in the restaurant, or by the waitstaff. The three course menu was $95, which is typical I guess, but I would have been nice to know. The real problem was the automatic 20% gratuity added to the check. We were a party of 2, so I didn’t quite understand this. Adding an automatic 20% seems unethical if not illegal, and something else this restaurant fails to understand is that many people, myself included, will tip more than 20% if warranted, but not in the face of a scheme like this. The waitress deserved at least 20%, but the restaurant deserves an investigation.
Excellent fine dining service. Our server really new the menu, and explained in a matter that I wanted to taste everything. The lamb, 2 ways, was superb.
The 3 course Valentine’s Day dinner had its highlights, such as braised liver pate and black bass, and not-so-highlights, such as the lamb, which was chewy and tasteless. Dessert was divine with gems like sesame gelato and flourless chocolate cake! Our server, Guillermo, was outstanding!
Outstanding service and ambiance. Great food. Prix fixe lunch a bargain. Came for a few special occasions, but decided to come once a month or so, because it's worth it!
We were there for weekday lunch and everything was very good. The food was as delicious; two of us had salmon. It was cooked perfect and to order and one of ya ordered shrimp salad and was extremely pleased with it also.
Our server did s very nice job.
We will definitely return.
Inventive food and pleasant setting. Good value and fun wait staff too!
The bartenders Angie and Niranjan were excellent! Fantastic service and cocktails.
This was not our first meal here, nor will it be our last. As usual, the staff is phenomenal. They know the menu, how things are prepared and wine pairings. I've never felt rushed to finish my meal, quite the opposite. The chef's rotating menu ensures that you never get bored and keeps you looking forward to the next change. The food is incredible and definitely worth experiencing. I know that we'll return and I'm already looking forward to it.
Vermilion is our "go-to" choice for fine dining. The wait staff are so knowledgeable about the menu and how the various dishes are made. At least twice a year (anniversary, birthday) we treat ourselves to their five-course meal (1- meat, 1-vegatable) and share, along with their wine flight. A great treat!
We were looking for a quiet spot to have brunch on a Saturday morning and decided on Vermillion. We opted for for the brunch pre fix which is one first course and one main for $22/person. I got the pear and fennel salad for first course and the pork belly and egg breakfast sandwich. My companion got the pasta first course and the Vermilion burger main. The salad was good, but not spectacular and the sandwich was good as well; the bun was soft and buttery, the pork belly was maple glazed, the scrambled eggs were soft and well seasoned, and it had a spicy kind of tomato jam. My only issue was the cheese was competing with the maple and the spice. I also had decaf coffee - which was excellent. The pasta portion was small but very very good. The burger was the real star of our meal. The fries were fantastic. The burger had raclette cheese and was so ooy-gooy. We had mimosas and the seasonal brunch punch, which were just ok. We sat upstairs by the window, a very picturesque morning in Old Town.
Wonderfully delicious food and kind wait staff. Good beer and wine by the glass selection despite being a short list. Duck liver croquettes were to die for.
Our server was amazing!!!
Exceptional experience. We’ll be back!
Lovely ambiance, we can’t wait to come back!
we took four friends (from Australia) and they said Vermillion was by far their best experience since arriving in DC!!
Great service, wonderful food.
We found the portions very small. The pork belly dish was overcooked and tough. However, the amusee bouche was well appreciated.
The service was great, food needed more flavor, I had the frittata, which was bland, and my husband's Salmon Benedict was too salty.
Vermilion did not disappoint! My friend met with me for a birthday dinner during Alexandria's restaurant week and they not only showed up with an additional dessert, they also included a hand written thank you for celebrating my birthday with them. It was nothing short of lovely. The dessert was s plate of lemon poppyseed fritters with a bluberry compote. They were outstanding! Additionally, I really enjoyed each dish's presentation and flavor pairing. I ordered the potato and leek soup which had salmon roe and slices of trout in the base and the bass to follow. Even the bread that came out was amazing. Perfectly cooked, salted to perfection, and warm. This is a meal I will remember and suggest over an over!
Great service; wonderful food. The menu, and the dishes description, do not do justice to the creativity and the execution.
Birthday celebration. It was amazing. They even brought me a piece of cake with a candle lit.
Vermilion's was a great anniversary venue for my wife and I. They treated us like royalty and the food was really superb! Highly recommend Vermilion's if you are looking for a really special night out.
Everything was fine and loved the Kale salad especially the dressing The Bass was a great choice also and the sauce delicious.Plan to be back soon
Excellent food and very prompt service! Definitely coming back!
They made our famil double birthday celebration very special and food was amazing.
We went for Winter Restaurant Week. The lunch was excellent value. The black sea bass on a spiced butternut velouté was inspired.
We enjoyed eating in the quiet dining area upstairs where we could talk easily.
Restaurant only offered two courses instead of the usual three. The potato leek soup was a work of art but didn't taste anything like potatoes or leeks. The predominate flavor was the salmon roe in the soup. A big disappointment. The main course was OK but not worth ordering again. Not the best restaurant week lunch I have ever had.
The food was absolutely delicious.
The main waiter was distant and distracted but everyone else was great.
Vermilion never fails to impress. We opted for the restaurant week menu which, at $35/person, is a steal. The options provided for the three course meal all sounded scrumptious, which made our choice difficult. I had the kale and escarole salad which, as noted by our waiter, was very similar to a tasty Caesar salad. My spouse ordered the lightly cured king salmon. We agreed that neither of us could have gone wrong either way, and the potato leek soup was a close third choice. For the main course, we both had the suckling pig with glazed bacon and brussels sprouts. If that sounds good to you, you're 100% correct. It was incredibly delicious. We each got one of the two desserts and, while my spouse enjoyed her chestnut cake, I am convinced I made the right choice by going with the flourless chocolate cake. I wish I could do this dinner all over again. It was awesome, and confirms yet again why we love this restaurant so much and why we keep coming back for more.
Delicious. Had the restaurant week offering and everything was great - salad with shaved Parmesan, sea bass was cooked perfectly and the sauce was divine. The flourless chocolate cake was crazy decadent and worth every calorie. Will definitely be back.
Food was mediocre for the price. The menu is small with just a handful of entrees (though, this isn’t a negative for us since we can appreciate the focus on doing a few things well - plus a nice local farm to table feel) but it feels like the chef is trying too hard and has over complicated the flavors of the dishes. The steak tartare appetizer was the best dish we tasted and the bread service was good. The wine list, service and ambience are excellent. Overall, the experience was just ok and do not think we will be back for dinner.
Wonderful dining experience! We went during restaurant week just to try it out, we will definitely be back. The potato Leek Soup alone is worth the experience. I had the suckling pig and again it was amazing. It had so many levels of flavor! The flourless chocolate cake was also outstanding. If there was one area that didn’t measure up it was the ambiance. While the restaurant in general was quiet (despite a full crowd), we were seated on the second floor between a couple that broke up, loudly and an overly aggressive salesman who was selling his mutual funds, loudly. Certainly not Vermillion’s fault but it did take away from a wonderful experience. Thanks Vermilion for a great evening out!
Great special occasion restaurant. Loved the ambiance, combination of flavors and textures in the food was delightful. The presentation was beautiful. And the waiter's recommendations were spot on. Looking forward to going back soon.
Best mussels we have had in N.Virginia. We will be back.
Absolutely perfect. Can’t wait to go back.
Slow, inattentive service and very long waits for everything, including to be seated when I first arrived because my table wasn't set up yet (in spite of the fact that I had made an Open Table reservation). By the time that my entrée finally arrived at my table, I only had time to take a few bites, and then I had to ask for a to-go box and my check because the time limit for my parking had almost expired (which is always a major concern/pain when dining in old town Alexandria). The food was good and nicely presented, but the portions were quite small for the prices that Vermilion charges. Moreover, I had researched Vermilion's winter restaurant week brunch menu before going, and I was disappointed to see that the restaurant had made changes to the 2-course prix-fixe menu that was posted on-line in the Alexandria restaurant week 2019 menu book (including deleting the appetizer and entrée that I was planning to order).
