   My husband, our guest, and I had a fabulous Sunday night dinner at Verjus. We enjoyed a relaxing time after performing at a Society of Musical Arts concert just a few blocks away. The meal was spectacular - starting with a duck foie gras terrine and a delicious beet salad. All of us had the spectacular venison medallions in a red wine reduction and black barley. It was out of this world!

   Delightful hostess/bartender/owner Jane made us feel very welcome. Wife was very impressed with her Cosmo! Our hats off to the chef/owner. We chose the Duck and Verjus Beef Bourguignon and both were excellent.! Delicious and ample portions. Wanted to order those yummy creamer puffs for dessert , but we’re both so full from apps and entrees, we were unable Definitely will do next time!!

    I’m so surprised that I had not visited before. I love French food and this is classic great French food. It does not try too hard and the focus is on flavor and freshness. The cocktails were perfectly balanced. The food was amazing. I had the Black Bass and my extremely fussy husband had the steak. We were both so so happy with our food. They were short staffed but kept coming to us and checking in with us and apologizing for the wait. But the food was totally worth waiting for. It’s a place you go to when you want to sit back and focus on a fine meal.

    My husband I went especially for their German night and we couldn't have been more delighted. We both had the tender, delicious sauerbraten. The appetizers (wurst platter and potato pie) and desserts (apple strudel, linzer tart and crumb cake) were also fabulous. Service was a bit slow, but everyone was a lovely.

    Verjus competes with several upscale French restaurants in the area but, for me, does not make it less of a value since it has an interesting beer, wine, and specialty drink selection. The food quality and service are superb in all respects. So if a BYOB is not overriding, Verjus us a must try in all respects. Like lamb kidneys?

    I have never been disappointed in a meal or service provided at Verjus. My dinners are lengthly, minimum 2 hours and often 3, and have never been rushed out the door.

    As always, we enjoyed an excellent meal at Verjus. They never disappoint. Their crab cakes are by far the best crab cakes we have ever tasted anywhere. Everyone in our party raved about each course and the wine selection. An added perk is that you can have a conversation at your table without raising your voice. Very rare nowadays!

    We ordered escargot and it didn’t have nearly enough garlic or salt in it - it tasted like the can they come in. We put the dishes to the side and about fifteen minutes later the server asked us if we were enjoying everything. When we explained that we weren’t enjoying it, the manager came over and asked if we’d ever had escargot before. We frequent French restaurants and escargot is one of our favorite appetizers - we know what escargot is. The assumption that we’d never had it before was very offputting. I got the scallops - $45 for scallops. We’d been told by the same manager that they were swimming in Nantucket not a day before - I wasn’t impressed with their softness, the sweetness, or the creaminess of the “champagne sauce.” My son got a contrafilet - he said afterwards that he wished he’d done more research before ordering the equivalent of fancy TV Dinner Meat Product. His exact words were “It tastes like brisket, and I hate brisket.” The service after the appetizer issue was very good and we appreciate the effort they made, but for people more accustomed to French cuisine - this is not the right place.

    We started the New Year with the most delicious dinner at Verjus. My husband said the crab cake appetizer was the best he ever had - all meat and no filler. The duck was cooked perfectly and served with a delicious sauce. The snapper with meyer lemon sauce was outstanding. The steak was cooked to perfection. We really didn't have room for dessert but were glad we ordered it anyway! Poached pears in wine sauce and the homemade ice cream were ideal toppers to a superb meal. The ambiance is what we love about Verjus - the noise level is perfect for conversations, the staff are professional and the service is attentive. There are always interesting specialty cocktails to start off your meal, and a very reasonable wine list to accompany dinner. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience!

    There was no better way to end the year than with another absolutely superb dinner at Verjus. We began with terrific cocktails and our favorite appetizers. Our creative and delicious appetizers were followed by our equally creative and delicious main courses. We enjoyed our fish dinners with a glass of sauvignon blanc. We'll be back soon-----

    We came here to enjoy a relax and quiet dining experience for a birthday (Thursday evening at 8:00) The food is always delicious and the drinks festive and creative. I felt as if I was dining with family with the hostess being so friendly but giving us enough space.

    Be advised that this is NOT a place to eat and be out in 1-2 hrs. Many menu items take extra time, so check with your server! We were there 7pm - 9:30 pm, and skipped dessert because it was getting late and cutting into our evening plans.

    We thoroughly enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner at Verjus. The food was sophisticated, ample and delicious, the staff friendly and efficient, and the room felt warm and welcoming, with pleasant but not overloud music in the background. Have been here for non-holiday meals, never had a bad meal, or even a bad dishs here - which is why we'll be back again!

    I had brunch at this gem in hiding - right in Maplewood and I really enjoyed it. Of course I would love to see it updated and it could certainly use it, however it is spotless clean with lovely background music and a zen atmosphere that made our brunch wonderful. With it's own parking and wonderful cocktails it really is a special place. The food was fresh and delicious and the service was outstanding. I highly recommend looking past the decor and focusing on the excellent food and service.
