Veritas Steak & Seafood
The Rios Family
The restaurant is in a strip center type location, which can be misleading about the quality. When we arrive the host told us that it would be a 30 minute wait, even with a reservation. We explained our frustrations and they politely found us a table. Our waiter was great and the found was delicious. The tables and booth are densely packed, which means you’re constantly hearing other people’s conversations. I would go back not on Saturday though.
We had a 6 PM. The noise level was great then but got a bit noisy by 7. The pianist was great. The service was impeccable. The escargot was great as was Mario's Trio, Veritas Salad and creme brulee and strawberry cheesecake. The lobster Ravioli had a nice sauce, but the meat was minced, instead of the chunks I prefer. The only drinks we had were hot tea and water and therefore the bill with tips was a bit pricey at ~ $170 for 2. It was worth it,
We were a group of seven who dine weekly at the local restaurants in turn. Veritas is a little expensive but used to be one of our favorite places but now we probably will not visit quite so often. It seemed a quiet night and while the waiter was friendly, service was slow and the piano loud. We had entrees only and wine and split the check, with each couple paying ~$144 ea. after the 18% gratuity was added. The food was good but not that exceptional.
Food is good. Service is responsive and friendly. Compared to other similar restaurants (Perry’s, Del Frisco’s, Vic & Anthony’s), I find the pricing a bit high. Speaking of this experience only, there were only a couple other patrons, and it was rather loud. I also noticed that the carpet and some of the booths appeared “run down” and needing replacement. We will likely not go there again.
Food was as ordered. Service was a little slow, but it was New Years Eve.
It was new years eve and the restaurant was way under staffed. We had a reservation but had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. Service took forever, it wasn't our waiters fault he just had way to much to cover. Food was just okay, steaks were under cooked but was not going to send them back and wait another 30 minutes. Really disappointed new to town and the restaurant is close to me.
The service was slower thanexpected
Our first time dining there. We were very impressed with the quiet ambiance and our kind, attentive waiter ! The corn cream brûlée was yummy and our filet was tender and flavorful! We look forward to going back !!
We went for dinner on New Year’s Eve. The restaurant as quite busy and seemed understaffed. We were seated without menus and didn’t have salt/pepper on the table. The waiter didn’t seem to notice that we didn’t have menus, until I requested them. We’ve dined there before, with no issues. I think it was just the holiday...
Everything about this restaurant feels cheap - from the silly plates, plain food presentation, and poor service. The fact this restaurant competes with other local restaurants in similar price points like Perry’s makes me wonder how this restaurant remains open. This is probably why the restaurant was mostly empty on a Saturday evening.
Food looked and tasted amazing. We had the six course Omakase with paired wines and it was great. The service, however, was rushed and not very personable which negatively impacted the experience.
We would definitely recommend Veritas to friends. The atmosphere is great and if the weather is nice, you can sit outside on the lake. We've been there twice now and the service, food and ambiance were all consistent and good. The food is very good but the recipes are more a traditional cuisine. We both had meals leaning towards the Italian cuisine.
Nice ambiance. Great food. Overpriced. Front counter exceptional! Waiter awesome. Bus boy rude.
Tried Veritas for a pre-concert dinner in Sugar Land, TX. We were very please with our dinner and service. Although Veritas is a long drive for us, we will be back.
They don’t respect your reserved table. We arrived a few minutes early to our 12:15pm lunch reservation for 6. The hostess informs us that a server just sat our table and that there was no more room because they are booked. Well thats the point of the reservation, we said to her. She offered 6 seats in a row up against the bar, this was unacceptable, we were there for a nice lunch with our coworkers to treat the management team. A manager and the hostess came up with putting another table next to a booth in the bar area so we had 3 people sitting at the booth and 3 others on chairs. Our food took a long time, they came to tell us they were out of mashed potatoes, 2 people in our party ordered the 3 course meal so the server boxed up the desserts without us requesting that and brought them to the table without offering any desserts to anyone else and was ready to give us the check. First of all, some in our group wanted coffee and desserts, secondly, the boxed up desserts were to be enjoyed at the restaurant so my boss was eating his out of the styrofoam container. This server wanted us out. Whoever he was, he has no business in the customer service field. Luckily when we ordered coffee and desserts another kind server took over at the end and we never saw the other one. He is very lucky that the gratuity was included in the bill. All in all, we will not go back to Veritas. We should have walked right over to Churrascos as we originally wanted to when they were trying to figure out where to seat us. Go to Churrascos instead, it is where we will have our next managers lunch from now on.
Everything was wonderful!
Thanksgiving meal was fabulous! Everything was extra delicious-turkey, ham, chicken, fresh veggies, creme brûlée corn, fantastic stuffing, sweet potatoes, desserts...and the always welcoming staff made the meal memorable 🍽
Saw an ad on-line for Veritas, so decided to treat my husband to dinner. Finding this restaurant was like finding gold! Beautiful decor, this place is elegant and subdued in every way. The food was magnificent, the waiter excellent. Even though it is a bit of a drive for us, we’ve put this restaurant near the top of our “favorites” list for future dining.
Outstanding service Requested location was perfect for our business meeting. Very reasonable wine prices and good quality. Will go again for sure
We were at our table for 15 min and no one waited on us. I flagged down a waiter and asked if we could get some service. He came back with water and left. We left after that. No one asked why we were leaving.
I just love this restaurant. Great customer service and amazing food!
Birthday for family member with elderly among our group. Background piano overpowered conversation-it may have been our location. Everything else was fine for an enjoyable evening
Our 49th wedding anniversary! It was special. Thanks to Veritas and staff. Great job!
As we have come to expect the service and food quality was outstanding. The only issue we had was with the volume of the piano player. As we were seated, the volume was much too loud. We could hardly hear each other at the table. Our waiter spoke with the musician and the volume was lowered to a reasonable level. Overall another wonderful experience at Veritas.
Food was great, our waiter was very nice, but the service was a bit slow considering there were only several occupied tables in our section including the outside patio. The ambience was good with background music or live band played instrumental jazz, but not so great with the band's singer.
This was our first time here and I have to say, it was one of the best dining experiences we’ve had! The piano player was such a nice touch. He even played Happy Birthday for my 5 year old daughter!
The food was excellent and only to be outdone by the staff! Highly recommend!!
Surprisingly elegant dining experience with friends
I had a business meeting here yesterday and there was a long hair stuck on one of the knives!
This restaurant has a very good wine list, however the waiter did not seem to have good wine knowledge. There was no sommelier to assist with wine selection. The food was very good as I had a filet mignon cooked just the way I like. My wife enjoyed the mixed grill platter of filet, duck, and lamb. We ended up drinking a bottle of Faust cabernet only because the waiter said it was a popular selection. The wine was delicious with the meal. We skipped desert and went to the bar area where Alejandra provided excellent bar service. The piano player provided a great relaxing ambience. My wife and I have visited this restaurant a couple of times and we are already planning our next bar visit.
We always have a wonderful experience when we go to Veritas. The food is delicious and it has a beautiful atmosphere.
All was wonderful. Attentive service and a great off the menu meal (salmon).
I marked birthday when I made the reservation. The server didn’t mentioned the birthday. We did ordered dessert. No candle or happy birthday written on the dessert.
Great service, food, and extremely nice atmosphere.
It's a little overpriced but okay. I ordered a regular salad and it cost almost $10. Based on what you got I thought that was too much.
Very disappointed after reading excellent reviews about the service and food at the Veritas Sugarland location. Our waiter approached us like he was having a bad day rather than the greeting one would expect at a nice restaurant - I don't really blame waitstaff at Red Lobster or Roadhouse for having an attitude, they are underpaid and overworked. But waiters at upscale venues and usually tipped well and are responsible for fewer tables, so bad attitudes are harder for me to accept. I tried being pleasant and friendly despite the scowl on the man's face - maybe he just didn't like how happy we were to be out on a Wednesday night. Anyway, we ordered bacon wrapped scallops and a nice salad for appetizers and both were disappointing. the scallops smelled so fishy I barely touched them - my wife couldn't stand them and asked for the unhappy waiter to remove them from our table. He never bothered to ask if there was anything wrong with them (since 3 1/2 out of 4 were uneaten). My wife's salad was supposed to chocked full of goodies she enjoys - like candied pecans, fruit and other things I don't believe go well in a salad, but the salad was just wilted lettuce with honey mustard dressing instead of a strawberry vinaigrette.
While I was waiting for our food and talking talking to my wife, another waiter walked behind my chair with a full tray and smacked me in the side of the head with his elbow. I thought I had been struck with a ball ping hammer and said a bad word pretty loud as I grabbed the side of my head and took cover to avoid another blow to my noggin. Kidding aside, it really hurt for a few minutes, but was basically dismissed as the waiter continued on to his destination and an obligatory "Oh, sorry sir". I was disappointed that neither he nor the manager came over to sincerely apologize or show any remorse for the battery. I know it was an accident... or was it?
Anyway, I will never know because even though the seabass was very good, I won't be back.
Great place for a business lunch with clients. The food is wonderful. The service is outstanding. The servers are very unobtrusive and professional. Highly recommended!
Although, the food was excellent I had given notice on my reservation of my allergies and these were not taken into account.
Was thoroughly disappointed with the service and food. Wait staff was very slow and none engaging. Not a single one ever made eye contact. Finished my drink and they never asked if we wanted another. Finished dinner, never offered dessert. Oh and after ordering cocktails before dinner, guy grabbed all the wine glasses. I prefer a glass or red wine with steak. Wedge salad was bland and lacked flavor; and had to ask for salt and pepper to be brought to table. Steaks were average at best but overpriced as if were high quality. This place is off my list of restaurants. Suggest you try Perry’s instead where we usually go.
This was our first time there and the food was phenomenal. We were celebrating our anniversary and they surprised us with a complementary anniversary dessert after our meal. We're definitely going back again.
Enjoy celebrating my anniversary there.
