Vergina Ratings and Reviews
Before the theater, Vergina has Happy Hour prices that are hard to beat. Selected adult beverages, along with a varied food menu, sre half price. We sat outside on the front patio on a lovely evening, providing us with prople watching and a lovely view. Inside is very nice as well. The veal, lasagna, and salmon were all delicious. We had a very attentive server as well.
Valerio, Eric and Frederico the management of Vergina is outstanding! They are very welcoming to everyone and they make you feel like royalty. The food is excellent and very fresh! Try the octopus appetizer and also the burrata and prosciutto. For dinner the salmon is outstanding and the lobster ravioli is definitely a must have! You will not be disappointed !
We had a reservation and requested outdoor seating. We were not greeted warmly nor were we taken to outdoor seats even tho plenty were available. When I mentioned we requested outdoor seating he marched back-rechecked our reservation & seated us outside. We were not greeted nor made welcome. We almost left. Our waiter was very friendly and the rest of the meal was fine.
Ultimately Seated outdoors under cover. Offered a half off dinner menu ( before 630pm) ordered a veal and a chicken meal, a shared upsized/uppriced Cesar salad, 2 cocktails and a single dessert. Though booked thru OT, with a reservation and plenty of seating available ..there was an obvious push to seat us in awful, cramped out of the way tables. We both said no thanks and ultimately directly asked to be seated outdoors and were.. which was also on original reservation request. They made us uncomfortable with having to say no 3 times...please don’t put us squished, or in a tight corner or inside near a water stand...when tables were clearly available.
With tip, under $50. A good deal! Wait staff was good but several hiccups with the meal..same cocktail, one watered down significantly, salad basically had no dressing, both asked for extra and provided with one tiny “dip” cup to share, silly! Risotto was good though ingredient listed ( peas) lacking.. there were 4, odd! The meal felt a little rushed/pushed upon us. Water not refilled unless specifically asked. Given wrong dessert which after a delay was corrected and ultimately removed from bill, I believe. Overall, it was actually better than anticipated ( rated it good) considering recent negative reviews ( thought we’d give it a shot) The food was tasty, not over salted and presentation was good! One plus of the restaurant is the outdoor seating closest to sidewalk and view of 5th Avenue. Many delicious options along 5th and 3rd so prefer to not have Annoyances during meal, which would sway me away from making this a “go to” choice.
After reserving an outdoor table, we were denied one even though there were plenty of empty ones. The surly maitre d’ told us that those tables were being held for “people who were coming shortly”. Then he said he couldn’t find our reservation - we mentioned Open Table and again in a surly voice said “oh, Open Table”
Then , when we ordered , the waiter told us he wasn’t able to give individual checks. It was crowded (Halloween) but he should have been able to do it. Management made that decision.
The food did arrive promptly, a plus.
Overall, we did not feel welcomed.
I had dinner there 4 years ago and it was awful. I decided to give it another chance on 10/31/17. It was terrible. The food was tasteless. The wait staff could not keep up with the volume. The first table they gave me was almost in the kitchen. I opted for a high top in the bar. That was a bad idea. I will never go back. In addition I had friends that were seated at a different table and they will never go back.
This restaurant is strictly for tourist who go because of its location on 5th Street Naples. They probably do not have a following.
Ordered three bottles of wine before we found one they had, and of course it was much more expensive.
Spilled sauce (lots of sauce) on my pants and no acknowledgement.
Food was just so so.
We have eaten here before but this last visit was way below expectations.
A friend and I have been having lunch on Sundays prior to the matinees at The Sugden Theater. We each had our favorite entrees and were disappointed that the menu had changed and did not include those choices. We ordered from the fixed price menu which was very reasonable but the Quesadilla's were not very tasty. I hope that they return to their old menu choices.
Unfortunately we weren’t too happy with the food or ambience. The portions were over large - as is the case in most American restaurants - but we weren’t very impressed with what we had. My chicken dish was only lukewarm and not very tasty and my husband had to ask for more sauce on his pasta. The prices were high and although we found the service satisfactory we would not want to go there again.
Wonderful Italian cooking. Authentic. Veal Picata was excellent My wife's lasagna was overcooked, but tasty. The Chianti wine and Tiramisu were awesome.
Good service and a warm friendly environment. Vergina was sold - so there is a new owner, chef and a new name coming. It will be Monticello.
The food was delicious, our server attentive, professional and very personable. They had a guitar player who was really loud. We asked for a quiet table outside away from the noise. It was fine until he decided to serenade the outside and for about 15 minutes it was overwhelming. Other than that, it was a delightful experience and we look forward to returning before the tourist season begins later this year.
Our dinner here was a highlight to our trip. This is centrally located on Fifth Avenue in Naples. It was worth the trip from Marco Island to dine here. The food was incredible and the service was impeccable. Despite a torrential down pour, we enjoyed dining on the patio as they lowered the screens. There was live music inside, but we preferred and enjoyed the Italian music out on the patio dining area. I would strongly recommend this restaurant. You will not be disappointed!
What a total disappointment this restaurant was this evening!! Service was terrible, disorganized & exasperatingly slow!!! I chose this restaurant because of the online menu & nothing we wanted was available on the menu. The meals we did choose came out way too salty & I couldn't even finish half my meal. Spend your money elsewhere, this place isn't worth your time or precious dollars.
The biggest draw for me to go to Vergina's is it's ease of getting to the theater which is across the street. Our waiter was snippy and inattentive. Chicken picatta was excellent however it came with mashed potatoes that were rubbery ( I had asked to substitute noodles but was told that there were no substitutions on the Happy Hour Menu and then when I complained about the potatoes, I was told that it is an Italian restaurant and what did I expect. All of this from our snippy waiter.) I wonder if it would have been a better experience with a different waiter.
Fifth Avenue in Naples has the reputation of being 'the place to be.' There are a lot of events that take place over the course of the year that bring crowds to the area. The food at Vergina was mediocre. If the restaurant had been full, it would have been very noisy due to the closeness of the tables. To me the restaurant lives out the adage, if there are a lot of people in the area the food does not have to be of good quality, it just has to be there.
Great restaurant especially on a Friday and Saturday night, the lobster ravioli was amazing and the portion size was spot on. The only criticism I have is that the food arrived far too quickly (the starter arrived 5 minutes after ordering and the main course 5 minutes after finishing the starter) this gave no time for enjoying the ambience and chatting with friends.
Love new menu at this long time Fifth Avenue restaurant which is under new management. The Italian dishes are excellent. They have the best outdoor dining spot on Fifth Avenue South, right across from the Sugden Theater Plaza. Great for people watching as the tourists stroll by! Awesome early dining and happy hour specials.
Food and service and the value at the early dining was great. The only thing we did not like was having music in the dining room. It was too loud and we could not have a conversation . Music should be in the bar area not the dining room where people are trying to talk to each other.
Tonight was service disaster. Wait staff seemed very busy but we waited 20 minutes for a drink order, had to ask twice for more bread, finished meal and waited 25 minutes to order coffee. This is the first time this has happened. Hope it was just a bad night.
This used to be one of our favorite restaurants. We were so disappointed by our food, no where near the quality of the previous ownership. The salmon was very thin and undercooked. The creme burle was not up to par. The tables are jammed together. Not an appealing or comfortable dining experience.
