Verge Restaurant - Los Gatos Ratings and Reviews
We've been coming to Verge for awhile now and have loved it every time. The ambiance is very friendly and comforting. They have fantastic drinks, foods, and dessert. I think this place often gets overlooked being at the end of Main Street and being inside the Tollhouse Hotel. But it's a real gem They have live music on Friday and Saturday night, and soon will be moving that outside into their beautiful courtyard. Need a place for a group meeting or special event? This would work. I especially love the Mushroom Cobbler, the Duck Poutine, and the Scallops. Enjoy!
This restaurant is inside the Toll House hotel, which wasn't a problem but was a bit of a surprise. There was a lively bar scene when we arrived. The food was really good and creative, including the cocktail menu. The waitress probably could have sold us twice as many drinks if she would have been more attentive, but I guess that saved us some money, lol. After dinner we moved to the outside patio where the ambiance was really nice. I would definitely recommend this for a fun evening out.
The food is creative and every dish - scallops, steak, sea bass - was cooked perfectly. The appetizers I think were our favorite dishes however. The shrimp and corn fritters were amazing. The Brussels sprouts with deviled egg a great twist. The ahi tartar (poke really) with the pork egg rolls was super yummy as well. The portions on the appetizers were generous enough for sharing with two or three and I thought the prices were very fair, especially for LG. The whisky sour type cocktail was awesome too!
Honestly, I was expecting a bit better, and I think with a menu improvement I would return. The Toll House is a lovely place to stay, so I expected the restaurant to meet those standards. The wine list is nice, and the service was excellent- the disappointment was in our meals. I ordered the buttermilk chicken which was nice and crispy and fun- but when you mention a side of artichoke hearts and carrots, don't make it an afterthought- they tasted like they came out of the can, and a tablespoon at that. My colleague's burger was fine but not exciting. Please up the quality and presentation and we will return. Thank you!
Excellent on refills of beverages. Very well done in keeping food supplied, even to the end with the pies. Wonderful with the huge prawns, except keeping up on the red sauce. Very nice variety of food even for someone as myself who's allergic to eggs and wine/champagne. Small bagels were a good size. Chocolate on the dessert table. Food presented on tables at different levels gave a classy touch.
We always love the rabbit. Have a neat picture of the rabbit of our group at the table.
Maybe the lights dimmed a bit for ambiance. Maybe some little chocolate foiled wrapped Easter eggs scattered around each table.
On bill, show tip % of 15%, 18% and 20%, before tax.
Appreciated being escorted down ramp from reception check-in as I'm handicapped.
I'll be back next year for another delightful Easter Brunch!
While the food at the buffet was good, it didn't stay warm enough in the serving dishes; therefore, it was barely warm by the time it was eaten. Also the shrimp served with cocktail sauce had a bitter taste. The selection of food items was very good and service was excellent.
Verge is a great find in Los Gatos. Their food and service are outstanding, their wild mushrooms and goat cheese cobbler is very flavorful and unique, their fried chicken is very tender and moist inside and crunchy outside, and their corn flan is fantastic! My wife and I will certainly come back as their menu had a lot of interesting dishes that we definitely want to try
Loved the free fresh baked Pop-Overs for bread with black current butter. Food was eventive & delicious. Luscious pork chop, kale salad, mushroom pot pie, buttermilk chicken, sea bass & great desserts. Service attentive. Was able to easily wheel my 99 year old father up to the table. Worked perfect.
The service deserves more than 5 stars. The people were genuinely nice and very helpful. I constantly had my water filled! The food, however, was just ok and at a high price. The calimari was the one exception - it deserves more than 5 stars! Yum! Not greasy, cooked perfectly and really well seasoned.
Stayed at the Toll House Hotel, and this is the onsite restaurant, the food is tasty, creative, and well prepared. Good cocktails too. Enjoyed the Wild Mushroom Cobbler, Crispy Brussel Sprouts W/Deviled Egg, and the Crispy Buttermilk Chicken, all winner, if in the area, we'd go back It is lively and maybe a little loud.
Food here was great and I appreciated the gluten-free options. I had the chorizo quesadilla and it was excellent AND gluten-free. My husband and son had the duck-pork burger, and daughter had ravioli - all so good.
Service was friendly and attentive. Wait staff was knowledgeable about allergies and offered menu suggestions.
My only complaint would be the atmosphere. For the price and style of food, we were expecting a separate room for the restaurant, but it is cafe style tables and seating, attached the bar/lounge and reception area. Also - they list build-your-own mimosa and bloody mary, but they no longer offer that. They make all drinks at the bar.
I was impressed with the quality of food and the menu. The scallops and sea bass were cooked to absolute perfection! The sauces and seasonings on par!! It tasted like a 5 star fancy restaurant versus an upscale dining area in a hotel. There was live music and a lot of people there for the ambience was quite loud However we got used to it and we were able to have a conversation over the noise. The brussels sprouts and deviled egg appetizer was absolutely stellar!!! So much flavor in fact I'm craving it right now as I type this! Highly recommend! I also really like the basil cucumber gin fizz cocktail! Overall I was extremely impressed and can't wait to go back!
Went for the Thanksgiving Dinner. Had originally thought that their Thanksgiving Buffet was all day, but they just had a normal menu plus a couple of Thanksgiving specials which we had (one turkey and one prime rib). It was not anything to write home about.
Service was generally very good and very friendly. The Brussels sprouts were great . The turkey and prime rib was average, not what you would expect from a fine dining establishment.
The dessert listing was uninspiring. I wouldn't have picked anything on a normal night, and you would have thought they would have had apple or pumpkin pie as part of the Thanksgiving special.
The only good news was we were not charge some outrageous amount due to it being Thanksgiving evening. Though it wasn't inexpensive (wasn't expecting it to be).
We may try it again some day to make sure that the issue wasn't just that it was Thanksgiving
We decided to try out a new restaurant for a Friday date night and are happy to report that Verge Restaurant exceeded our expectations. We inhaled the Parmesan potato chips with onion dip as our starter, hmmm so good. The crispy Brussels sprouts with deviled egg was uniquely prepared and delicious. The roasted sea bass was so moist and delicious, it melted in my mouth. My husband ordered the buttermilk fried chicken, omg, so moist and flavorful. The popovers with herbed butter, decadent and delicious. Oh and our waitress Nora was a gem, really sweet and warm. We really enjoyed our evening at Verge and world definitely return and recommend to friends.
Modern and open concept. Service was good and everyone was friendly but not overbearing. Food was very enjoyable. The fish was great. My husband loves the short ribs. He shared and everyone thought they were great. We were there on a Sunday night so it wasn't packed. I would think being located in the hotel on weekdays it may be a lot busier.
Ambience is great and so are the cocktails. Starters and small plates are terrible and so is the dessert. Burnt Brussels sprouts with deviled eggs for starters is not appetizing. Bland and non-fresh tuna tartare is hardly what we thought we will find here. On top of everything when we ordered the soufflé for dessert, it turned out to be ice cream with grand mariner.. Very interesting food choices with great cocktails. Get the cocktails, avoid the food!!!
