Verge Restaurant - Los Gatos Ratings and Reviews
Took my grown son to Verge to celebrate his birthday. The remodeled bar and restaurant are beautiful, but we arrived to find that a Celebration of Life for one of the Vegas shooting victims was being held in the courtyard visible from the restaurant. I wish I'd known! That and the fact that we were one of two parties in the entire restaurant on a Sunday night made for a pretty somber meal. At least the noise level was zero. Waitress was friendly and made good suggestions for cocktails and appetizers. My son ordered Roasted Brussels Sprouts and a Short Rib entree--both excellent. I ordered a Mushroom Chowder and Sea Bass. The chowder was like a mug of cooked mushrooms with a Bisquick crust. Just awful. My piece of fish was a tiny cube, and the waitress poured a clear, gingery consomee on it that reduced the sea bass to a small, floating sliver of fish. Could have done without the sauce. The restaurant served my son a piece of cheesecake with a candle, which was nice. All in all, not a very festive atmosphere or fun birthday, though. Won't be back.
The restaurant is in the Toll House Hotel in Los Gatos, providing easy, safe and complementary parking. Upon seeing the menu, I was kinda disappointed because of no many choices. It turned out it didn't matter because the food was good and the portion was quit just about right. We ordered 4 different dishes, each and every was yummy. BTW, the service couldn't be better.
I was visiting a friend who lives in Los Gatos so searched for a nice place for dinner, and Verge looked like it offered a vibrant atmosphere and a variety of dishes. It was a quiet Sunday early evening which allowed us to sit on the comfortable patio. We had two starters which were superb: the Brussels Sprouts and Shrimp Fritter which were quite filling, enough so that we had them make our Mizuna & Frisee salads to go. Laura is a very attentive server as are the rest of the wait staff. We look forward to returning in the near future.
I'd forgotten this was right in our backyard as people tend to think "hotel restaurant" is only for people staying at the hotel. This was a fun place to get together with friends for happy hour and then move into dinner. Pleasantly surprised at the freshness of the food and how tasteful it was. The potato chips (yes, you can order them alone), Brussels sprout leaves (a little salty for me due to my health restrictions but my friends loved them), crunchy fried chicken (healthy portion) and fish were prepared so well that it's hard to believe it was "hotel" food. I would definitely come here again as it had a nice relaxing and fun vibe. Service was great as well as the other wait staff (person getting water, bread, etc.).
Went here for a late anniversary dinner- one of the few restaurants which was open since my husband worked late that night. Staff was pleasant. But towards the end of the night, they were exchanging loud conversations right next to us (including the hostess) about their upcoming shifts and loudly clanging away as they cleared clean plates/silverware off neighboring tables to wind up. We were literally the only patrons in the restaurant at that time though there were a few folks lingering at the bar. Couldn't understand why they didn't wait for us to leave to allow us a more pleasant experience. Ambience felt like an airport lounge. Did not like the food. Would not recommend at all for vegetarians since there are surprisingly few options on the menu. The mushroom appetizer was barely edible and tasted like mushrooms soaked in milk. Had to send the only vegetarian entree (lasagna) on the menu back in exchange for a salad. Was touched by our server's gesture of bringing us a slice of cheesecake with a candle. Very nice of them. Used the restroom in the hallway on the way out and was shocked at how dirty the stalls were. Won't be going back.
We had been wanting to try this restaurant because of the reviews. Often a hotel restaurant is mediocre at best. From the moment we arrived the service was outstanding extremely pleasant and very enjoyable. The food was fresh, mimosas great and ambiance perfect. Although a smaller menus, there were diverse choices to satisfy us. Our service was beyond exceptional and we loved chatting with the hostess. We will be back for dinner!!
We loved our Sunday brunch at Verge. The food was fantastic, the service was friendly, and the mimosas and Bloody Mary's were fantastic. There was live music which was really nice. The only downside was that we couldn't get the beer and bacon tasting that we were looking forward to.
First time visiting the Toll House in many years. The Hotel and Restaurant were remodeled and it is no longer easy to access the grounds for parking to attend functions at hotel or restaurant. There were no directions at he street level on where to park your car and how to get to the restaurant !!! We luckily were there on a Sunday night and there was one space parking in front of the hotel available at 7:15 PM. We finally found the stairs to climb up two flights to the restaurant. That was difficult as we had several packages with us as we were attending a Birthday Party. (The parking garage for hotel and restaurant was locked up on the street level and no other instructions on where to park was available. ) Formerly, you would drive up the hotel driveway and park behind the hotel and walk across to the hotel and restaurant. All that area is now locked up behind gates..........Very poorly setup. Others were also lost as we were.
Food was great, and service was great! Not many tables as before, as very small venue now! We would go again, but not for party over 4 people!
Verge is a great find in Los Gatos. The French onion dip and house-made chips are excellent. Both the hangar steak and the fried chicken were cooked perfectly. The crowning of our meal was the spectacular dessert: chocolate ganache with sweet corn ice cream. Highly recommend!
I've been here twice in one month and was so happy with everything both times. The food is unique but not stuffy and the service was so helpful. They even remembered us from the month prior and thanked us for returning. This is our new favorite joint. Their cocktail list is substantial!
Fantastic birthday dinner!
Went to Verge for the first time the other night and boy were we pleasantly surprised!
The service was attentive and well done. The food was exceptional. Half of the party had the scallops. These were perfectly cooked and wonderful with the risotto that was served with it. One person had the pork chops. These chops are to die for and we are planning on going back soon to eat here again! The buttermilk chicken was very good too. The cocktails were cutting edge and very good. We will be back soon!!!
Very good first impression, impeccable service, food was delicious (try the mushroom cobbler, this is a must - the beets salad, pork belly were excellent too). Overall great experience and we did not feel like we paid too much, pretty decent. We enjoyed the space and the low noise level, perfect for a smooth evening.
Every bite at Verge was delicious. The octopus and pork belly appetizer was excellent. The fresh currants added an interesting bite to the dish. The beet salad was fresh and bright. The bitter greens were an excellent balance to the freshly pickled beets. I enjoyed the grilled sea bass that sat on a bed of fresh julienned vegetables and my husband enjoyed the hanger steak. Both were well seasoned and cooked perfectly. We commented that everything we ordered was bright and fresh. The flavor combinations were creative. The service was excellent. We will definitely come back.
Great food and great service. The complimentary bread is popovers - which were delicious.
Only complaint was the noise - it was so loud I felt that my companion and I were shouting to one another. There was also live music, but that felt more like background noise compared to the talking/shouting/people noise.
That being said, we'll definitely be back, hopefully will be quieter.
Small menu, but great selections - pork belly and grilled octopus starter, ahi starter, onion dip with caviar garnish, duck burger with mac/cheese on a croquette - whaaaa?
Give it a try.
My wife and I had dinner at the Verge to celebrate our anniversary. We were greeted warmly when we arrived, and immediately were seated. The server quickly came, and was able to answer some questions we had because of dietary requirements. The food was wonderful. We both ordered the hanger steak. The steak was perfectly cooked, tender, and seasoned well. The accompanying vegetables were tasty, and also well prepared. After dinner, our coffee came in individual French presses, and was hot, and good quality. We split a corn flan for dessert. The flan was delicious, but the texture was slightly grainy. That's really the only small complaint I can make. Overall, it was a great meal. We'll be going back.
Mushroom starter was excellent. However the duck and pork burger, which we both ordered, was too salty to eat. We both ate around it (fried egg, French fries). When server came to take our plates away, she never even questioned why 3/4 of the burger was sitting uneaten on our plates.
We went for Mother's Day brunch. Food was marginal at best (cafeteria quality) and the price was outrageous. For 2 adults + 1 Child is was $225. I'd happily pay that if the quality was good, it was not. The orange juice ad coffee were even bad. The salads were oily, the pastries were like the cheapest ones you'd find at a bad grocery store, the omelet station was the best food option, but the makers seemed annoyed to be there. Overall, the service was fine, the people nice and the outside tables were nice - mainly b/c the weather was good. So glad we didn't have to sit inside as there was a smoky, oily film in the air and they had a really bad live musician playing. Total disappointment. Will not return.
We've been coming to Verge for awhile now and have loved it every time. The ambiance is very friendly and comforting. They have fantastic drinks, foods, and dessert. I think this place often gets overlooked being at the end of Main Street and being inside the Tollhouse Hotel. But it's a real gem They have live music on Friday and Saturday night, and soon will be moving that outside into their beautiful courtyard. Need a place for a group meeting or special event? This would work. I especially love the Mushroom Cobbler, the Duck Poutine, and the Scallops. Enjoy!
This restaurant is inside the Toll House hotel, which wasn't a problem but was a bit of a surprise. There was a lively bar scene when we arrived. The food was really good and creative, including the cocktail menu. The waitress probably could have sold us twice as many drinks if she would have been more attentive, but I guess that saved us some money, lol. After dinner we moved to the outside patio where the ambiance was really nice. I would definitely recommend this for a fun evening out.
