Have been there before for quiet business dinner, quiet being the rare but relished quality here in Silicon Valley. Seems they decided to have live performance on that Thursday, which made it impossible to converse anywhere in the restaurant so we had to eat outside on deck where heating was inadequate and conversation dwarfed by chattering teeth....Ours! Maybe it’s only Thursday’s, but check.
Great place, we really enjoyed it, and with many of the places downtown full at the popular times, walking a block got us to Verge and it was great, we all enjoyed our food.
Beautiful location! Kid-friendly but still classy. I just wish it wasn’t raining so we could sit outside.
Food was ok, they tried to over-complicate the menu and thus lacked flavor in the meals. Wouldn’t come here again, overpriced for mediocre food
Great place. I really enjoyed the food, experience and ambiance. If there was one thing to improve I would say the tomato risotto needs work.
Nestled away in the Toll House hotel a few blocks from the center of Los Gatos, Verge offers a varied and well prepared selection of dishes at a reasonable price; the service is professional but friendly.
Such a great find! The NY strip steak and mashed potatoes were luscious and our server was friendly and attentive!
We eat at Verge quite often . We think the restaurant is lucky to have a fine young man like
Hector on the staff. He seems to be able to do about everything and do it with grace and
efficiency. I have been ill for some months and we honestly missed our usual visits to Verge.
Normally I would neighborhood hotel restaurants but my wife and I thought to give it a try. The atmosphere is upscale-casual. What I liked best is that you can carry on a conversation unlike many new trendy restaurants. And, the food was pretty good, not outstanding and the dishes were creative. The wines by the glass were a little on the expensive side but the menu items were a bit more reasonable. We started off with the Crispy Brussels Sprouts and Deviled Egg. This was the best rendition of crispy Brussels sprouts I've ever had. For mains, we had the lamb chops and the pork and duck burger over a crispy mac & cheese bun with a fried egg. Both dishes were generous and good. The seasoning on the lamb chops was a little sweeter than my wife prefers, she likes more savory but she enjoyed them The burger was a very large portion with fry's. It was quite good. The bread they serve is delicious too - very airy but you can tell its not low in calories.
Over rated and over priced Valentine’s meal. The restaurant decoration was mediocre, the lamb of the 5-course special meal was tender but absolutely tasteless. The servers were nice and polite.
Outstanding brunch, ambiance & service from staff. Excellent choice of entrees, quick service & live music every Sunday.
Host and waiter was friendly; however, we experienced long wait times for our server to take our order for our main course. It took an extremely long time to get change so I can tip properly... ultimately I decided to leave with less than the ideal tip since there was nobody there to get me change. The fact that it was a slow weekday and less than a handful of customers, service shouldn’t have been that slow.
Verge is a hidden gem. Attentive, week trained servers and excellent food.
Delicious popovers with butter and chocolate chips. Wonderful soup of apple and butternut squash. Great salad of greens, grapefruit and avocado. Best service ever. Loved it (except the music while nice was too loud for much conversation).
Awesome food. Great service. A lot nicer than the hotel it's sitting in. Kind of like a diamond in the rough.
the service is very attentive! The food is great. The only problem is that the menu has not changed in a long time. It is hard to keep coming back because there is nothing new to eat! Please have a weekend special like salmon.
The service was great, the food was fine, the decor ok. But honestly, if you sit in a "booth," your chin might just reach the table.
Consistently great service and the food is also wonderful.
Fantastic service! Varied menu - all 4 entrees we had were delicious. A nice accessible alternative to some of the packed LG locales.
The food was ok, the decor was outdated but the service was excellent.
Went Xmas eve. Place was rocking; but since I was with my family, it was just hard to talk and hear anyone else. Food was good and about what I would expect for the price. Appetizer portions were small. I would expect that party of 7 could at least taste something from each appetizer but that wasn't true. Service was excellent!
Our table was an odd size (almost square), so it was impossible to hear anyone from the opposite side of the table. I would have preferred a long, narrow table.
For the price, I think we will find other places to celebrate our family events.
We were a party of 6 and were given a spacious table and food choices were available for all.
Drinks were good and food delicious. Easy parking is also a big positive.
I'd just returned to SJC from a very sad occasion in LA, not expecting much of Verge. As it turned out our Salvadorean servers could not have been more thoughtful and aware. Our ordinary dinner turned out to be a lovely healing evening with delicious food and the kindest servers. We'll definitely go back when we're in Los Gatos.
Family in town
Buttermilk Fried Chicken and the brussel sprouts with bacon were both fabulous! Excellent wait staff. Great experience!
Sergio was A great server for us on Friday night. Every time I’ve been here, the food and service has been good.
The sausage ravioli with fried egg and the pork & duck burger are amazing.
Great Food, Sweet Service and Nice new experience!!!
Musician in the dining area was too loud
Great service at a buffet—drinks always filled, plates always cleared when done, food wasn’t too bad. We sat outside so it was really quiet and calm, but the banquet rooms didn’t seem as nice.
We loved this hidden gem!
Took my grown son to Verge to celebrate his birthday. The remodeled bar and restaurant are beautiful, but we arrived to find that a Celebration of Life for one of the Vegas shooting victims was being held in the courtyard visible from the restaurant. I wish I'd known! That and the fact that we were one of two parties in the entire restaurant on a Sunday night made for a pretty somber meal. At least the noise level was zero. Waitress was friendly and made good suggestions for cocktails and appetizers. My son ordered Roasted Brussels Sprouts and a Short Rib entree--both excellent. I ordered a Mushroom Chowder and Sea Bass. The chowder was like a mug of cooked mushrooms with a Bisquick crust. Just awful. My piece of fish was a tiny cube, and the waitress poured a clear, gingery consomee on it that reduced the sea bass to a small, floating sliver of fish. Could have done without the sauce. The restaurant served my son a piece of cheesecake with a candle, which was nice. All in all, not a very festive atmosphere or fun birthday, though. Won't be back.
Always delicious and our server was wonderful. We usually sit outdoors where its more peaceful but a huge class reunion was going on. For as busy as they were, food and drinks came out fast! One of our fave places in town.
service excellent, food good but overpriced, drinks way overpriced
The restaurant is in the Toll House Hotel in Los Gatos, providing easy, safe and complementary parking. Upon seeing the menu, I was kinda disappointed because of no many choices. It turned out it didn't matter because the food was good and the portion was quit just about right. We ordered 4 different dishes, each and every was yummy. BTW, the service couldn't be better.
I was visiting a friend who lives in Los Gatos so searched for a nice place for dinner, and Verge looked like it offered a vibrant atmosphere and a variety of dishes. It was a quiet Sunday early evening which allowed us to sit on the comfortable patio. We had two starters which were superb: the Brussels Sprouts and Shrimp Fritter which were quite filling, enough so that we had them make our Mizuna & Frisee salads to go. Laura is a very attentive server as are the rest of the wait staff. We look forward to returning in the near future.
I'd forgotten this was right in our backyard as people tend to think "hotel restaurant" is only for people staying at the hotel. This was a fun place to get together with friends for happy hour and then move into dinner. Pleasantly surprised at the freshness of the food and how tasteful it was. The potato chips (yes, you can order them alone), Brussels sprout leaves (a little salty for me due to my health restrictions but my friends loved them), crunchy fried chicken (healthy portion) and fish were prepared so well that it's hard to believe it was "hotel" food. I would definitely come here again as it had a nice relaxing and fun vibe. Service was great as well as the other wait staff (person getting water, bread, etc.).
Went here for a late anniversary dinner- one of the few restaurants which was open since my husband worked late that night. Staff was pleasant. But towards the end of the night, they were exchanging loud conversations right next to us (including the hostess) about their upcoming shifts and loudly clanging away as they cleared clean plates/silverware off neighboring tables to wind up. We were literally the only patrons in the restaurant at that time though there were a few folks lingering at the bar. Couldn't understand why they didn't wait for us to leave to allow us a more pleasant experience. Ambience felt like an airport lounge. Did not like the food. Would not recommend at all for vegetarians since there are surprisingly few options on the menu. The mushroom appetizer was barely edible and tasted like mushrooms soaked in milk. Had to send the only vegetarian entree (lasagna) on the menu back in exchange for a salad. Was touched by our server's gesture of bringing us a slice of cheesecake with a candle. Very nice of them. Used the restroom in the hallway on the way out and was shocked at how dirty the stalls were. Won't be going back.
Excellent food. Service was great. It was a bit noisy, especially during live music ( The live music dated the restaurant – felt like it stepped back into the 1980s)
Pretty good food. Good service and okay wine list. Wierd tables and seating setup though... needs some rethinking.
