Verandah at Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort
No one called me to tell me the restaurant had been closed for over 3months
Waiter very attentive until big wedding party came in. But he did buy us dessert
We had three lovely dinners at Veranda and it is now one of our favorite restaurants!
We arrived at happy hour but were not told by the bartender that a 9 ounce chard was full price of 17.00 instead of happy hour price for 6 ounce, a difference of 11.00. Also, I ordered a rum and coke...bartender says what do you want? I say Capt Morgan, he says we don’t have Morgan we have Sailor Jerry’s . Ok, but I’m not told the drink would be 12.00 instead of the happy hour price a difference of 8.00. So instead of a 10 dollar bill he charges 29.00. We inquired with the hostess who investigated and basically said tough luck your drinks didn’t qualify. We sat at the bar waiting for our 5 o’clock reservation. Pretty shady, pretty shady indeed.
The Grouper with crab crust was tasty but the portion was very small. I had a lobster tail that was maybe 3oz and split, barely a morsel. The lobster was over cooked andTasted like burnt rubber. My wife’s shrimp cocktail was very good. Large shrimp and plentiful portion. Her salad was way too small for the price. So, the waitress Allison was very nice. The server pouring water was very nice. The bartender had no class and even coughed into his hands. Result, we left feeling like we ripped off and still hungry. BTW, the happy hour drinks are only for bar seaters, not for table guests.
Our experience at Verandah was not typical as it took place during the escalation of the coronavirus pandemic. So there were few diners there and they were seated far apart. It was very quiet which was nice. The staff had little to do, so the service was extraordinary. Even given these odd conditions we had a delicious and delightful meal. My husband had fresh grouper which he thought was the best fresh fish he had during our 6 weeks in Florida. I had wonderful grilled shrimp, also local and fresh.
We will go back to Verandah the next time we are on Amelia Island and hope to do so under more normal circumstances.
The Service and hostess where exceptional Rhonda and Trinity as well as the German host treated us outside the box. We felt un expectantly especial.
Being treated that way to start let us know we were in for a treat a d wonderful experience, having so many gluten free choices amazed each of us and for at least 2 on the table it was a blessing.
Simple plates but full if taste, the gluten free bread was better than the regular bread.
Thank you all
We felt the food wasn’t quite up to par as what we experienced in years past. Service was great.
Great chocolate birthday dessert. Terrific shrimp. Great service. Nice wine by the glass.
We both had fish. It was cooked perfectly! They have a young chef but he knows what he is doing!
This was our second time eating here and it did not disappoint. We started off with drinks at the bar. The bartender was lovely and she poured some great drinks!
Our waitress at our table was very nice and did not rush us at all. We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and we had an amazing dessert! The chocolate cake was outstanding.
We had the deviled eggs, fried green tomatoes (cooked perfectly) and I had the shrimp cavatelli and my husband had fish. It was all excellent and delicious! We love the ambience here and the staff is super friendly.
Thank you for a lovely evening!
Aside from the mile and a quarter drive from the entrance gate (I could not have done it without gps, it was a very enjoyable dinner. It was nice to not worry about attire after a day touring Amelia Island, yet the atmosphere was wonderful. My grouper was possibly the best that I’ve ever had. Great menu, atmosphere, service, and wine choices; what more could you ask for!
Great food! Even the bread and butter was amazing!
My husband especially enjoyed his sweet rob roy which came with a surprise black cherry garnish. The watercress salad with black olive tamponade was exceptional! The service could not have been better. A memorable evening!
We had an amazing dinner. The muffins were delicious. The appetizer sampler was amazing. The grouper was good, but the risotto was not so much. The Shrimp Cavatelli was good.
We ate at the Verandah twice while we were on Amelia Island quiet & elegant.
They presented each table with a special "small bite" or chef's treat both times, & both times they were outstanding! They also make the best scones & cornbread and refilled our bread bowl during both visits.
The first time we ate there, our friend who tries to eat vegan was fully accommodated as coordinated by Haydar (our waiter) & the chef.
Excellent service, excellent food - perfect!
The food quality was not as good as it has been in the past. Discount to club members good and makes price of entree more reasonable. Service was good.
My husband and I ate here while on vacation on Amelia Island. We wanted a nicer 'tablecloth' seafood meal and chose Verandah based on trip advisor reviews. Although we had a reservation our table was not ready when we arrived so we sat at the bar for a few minutes and ordered a drink. We were seated very shortly and did have to wait 7 or 8 minutes ( it always seem so much longer) before someone acknowledged our presence, but that was the only hiccup we experienced. We noticed several large parties in the restaurant and that, combined with a Monday holiday evening, seemed to have thrown their staffing off. Once our waiter got to us he was very friendly and knowledgeable and we had no more complaints about the service. The food was EXCELLENT. Neither of us was starving so we split a wedge salad and the seafood platter. The platter was 2 lobster tails, a dozen shrimp prepared fried, grilled or blackened, and a 6 oz portion of the grouper (which seems to be a specialty of the restaurant), and a side. Our waiter recommended the whipped potatoes which were fabulous. The lobster was cooked perfectly and was tender and flavorful. The fish was delicious and would be a top choice on a return visit. The shrimp were fine although we found the batter to be a bit heavy, but pulling it off revealed juicy plump perfectly cooked shrimp, still very yummy. The restaurant offers a nice casual elegant setting with a good variety of choices on the menu. We would definitely return here and can 100% recommend a dinner here.
Good! Good service!
Exceptional food, service, and ambiance. Went there for Valentine's Day Dinner. Exceeded all expectations!!!
What the chef did to the lobster tail was amazing. The rest of the PRI fixe menu was very well done. Service was excellent. Pricey but well -worth it.
We had the Valentine's Day special menu. It was well thought out & presented. Excellent sea bass, their signature entree. Great service, thank you Michael. But the ambience and decor of the place is lacking … needs "something".
Great seafood, w
My wife was looking forward to the fried chicken since she doesn’t like seafood, but they were out. She ordered the filet instead well done but it turned out burned. The service was so-so. Not nearly what I hoped for considering the price. We ended up at Falcons Nest later and when we shared what happened they gave us a free meal?! Falcons Nest was casual and fantastic!!
Restaurant is dated and has no atmosphere. Looks like a Bob Evans at the beach. Service was good if not overly attentive. Shrimp cocktail was excellent- small, locally caught shrimp. I ordered the swordfish. What I got was pumpkin swordfish - pink and flaky with pink juices oozing - tasted like salmon. I don’t like salmon. The waiter should have warned me that this was not your typical
swordfish. FF were overdone and didn’t seem to be home cut. I ended up with a small salad for my dinner. Very pricey and food very disappointing. Do not recommend.
First time at Verandah - very nice. Service was excellent, food was excellent. Filet done to perfection, but the fries (subbed instead of Mashed) we flat. Special was excellent, lobster, shrimp and fish. Dessert was tremendous - All in all, great meal.
Good food and great service. Very clean and restaurant was quiet.
Fabulous foods and great service. Desserts and after dinner drinks were superb.
Great service and food.
This was a lovely dining experience from the minute we walked into the restaurant until we left. We had the crab crusted grouper, which was outstanding. The grilled shrimp were good and the roasted beets with goat cheese were absolutely delicious. We were celebrating 2 special occasions, and they treated us VERY well. Amazing service, and a memorable meal for sure.
The food was excellent especially the biscuits and scones! Service was also excellent. Highly recommend
Overall Good a couple of points (1). shrimp bisque soup was barely warm should have been hot. (2). we order one grouper entre and one swordfish entre waiter delivered two grouper dishes, not sure who made the mistake (kitchen or waiter) (3). there was an up charge of $3 dollars for ordering a whiskey "NEAT" waiter should have mentioned that upcharge at the time of order.
We've had two great experiences at this restaurant. Verandah has delicious food served in a quiet setting with excellent service. They were running a special and it was wonderful. We are happy to go to Verandah every time we're staying at the Omni and would happily go even if we stayed somewhere else.
Fantastic in every way! Everything was perfect. And the waitstaff were wonderful.
Excellent service and food consistently good... love seafood at The Verandah!
Excellent food and service made our visit very special. Will visit again soon.
It started with an amuse bouche that was a bit odd. It was a half inch piece of butternut squash‘s with a charcoal dust on top. It had no flavor and just seemed to have had no effort put into it. Next, The Caesar salad. While the dressing was very good, the lettuce was yellowish and I saw very little green I ordered fried shrimp with whipped potatoes and the shrimp was pretty good the potatoes were almost liquid. I could not eat them with a fork. When I complained to the waiter he told me “that was how whipped potatoes are supposed to be and “would I like a spoon?”
I have been eating at the veranda for over 15 years and it is usually very good. This was the worst dining experience I have ever had there
Brooklyn chocolate cake is worth a trip, as is the barbecue shrimp and grits.
Noisy when we were there. Couldn't hear conversation at times.
Drinks $16? Didn't looks like a high end place.
Most liked the food, but my Grouper was very dry; chef must not like fish.
The amplified live guitar was too loud and we were far away.
Looks like a nice place, but spotty features performance.
We had the best New Year’s Eve dinner -
