Food was ok but nothing special. Tasted more like a TV dinner or what you would find at a Denny's restaurant . Very disappointed and it cost over $80 for two! Will not return.
Not too thrilled with their food and prices for what you get. Ordered shrimp with grits and it was small shrimp and mostly grits. We've tried a year ago and thought we'd try again but probably won't go back. Maybe we just keep ordering the wrong items!
Limited menu options but food was very good.
The drinks were all amazing. I also loved my filet and my fiancée loved the stroganoff. The service was also lovely, but whoever was playing music wasn't so great and it was kind of distracting.
Nice for an outdoor Sunday Brunch. Food is what you would expect. A bit pricey if you have a bloody mary, but overall....ok.
We enjoyed our lunch at Venues recently on a Saturday. There were brunch items on the menu as well as lunch items. The food was excellent and the service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. We were eating with friends and never felt rushed. We felt the prices were reasonable and hope to dine there again.
Our dining experience was delightful! We'll definitely return!
Good food and great ambiance and service. Only problem was my Open Table reservation wasn't protected by the waiters, so lost our table. Free appetizer instead. Everything good. We are regulars at Venues!
Lovely local place to take out of town visitors. .It has everything. Fireplace. Outdoor seating. Local (?) artists. Nice wines. Go and enjoy!
Food & service just okay. Did enjoy sitting outside on the patio.
Venues is my local spot. Having said that it I've usually been neutral on the food and value. Katherine now has a new chef and bar master. Both have really elevated the experience.
I ordered a Manhattan and instead of the the standard (ho hum vermouth, marachino cherry) got a single barrel blended with madiera (2 months) with a large round ice cube and marinated fresh cherry...awesome!
Shrimp Etouffe was right on and well priced. Oh...and a bottle of Rombauer for $36!
The new place to be in Carefree!
Just felt it was a little pricey for a casual place....didn't expect that per the description I read on Open Table, when looking for a place to get together while visiting Family in Carefree....not a complaint, just an observation, thanks.
I always enjoy taking my out of town visitors here for lunch and we meet friends from Scottsdale there. The Christmas Day experience here was great.
We love the neighborhood feel and coziness of the restaurant. Always enjoy brunch!
The usual good food although service was a little slow for the first time with no feedback as to why. Not a big problem, but Karen remains the best server in the place. Specialty drinks not worth it but good bar menu at reduced prices in general. We will return as we have for the past year. Worth a try in quaint downtown Carefree.
We visited Venues twice in the past week, once as a walk-in for lunch, the other for dinner with an OpenTable reservation. Lunch was the better experience for us. We had the BLT wrap with fries and the chicken salad wrap with a side salad. They were all excellent and the lunch deserved 4 stars
Dinner was mixed. We ordered the deviled eggs with jam as a starter, and the preparation was interesting with the jam, but the deviled yolk lacked flavor and seasoning.. We shared the steak frites, and it was only OK. The fries were excellent, again, but the steak, which was ordered as medium rare came out as rare. We should have sent it back but we didn't. The cut was not very tender, even in it's rare condition. The dinner deserved 3 stars.
Four of us were here for an early Saturday dinner. We love the area it is in and a great art and food festival was going on. We were there for the Hidden in the Hills event and were recommended to this restaurant. Limited Happy Hour menue and average wine list. One that we ordered was not available but the server recommended an equally good one. Large serving of very well prepared mussels, great deviled eggs and well prepared roast chicken were the highlights for our group.
The service was very good and the atmosphere is perfect for Cave Creek, though a little noisy with children and large groups. We would go there again if we find ourselves in that area, but doubt we'd make a special trip to go there.
Have recently narrowed their menu to provide more consistency.
Stopped in after attending the Cave Creek art show. The food and atmosphere was good. The service was a little slow but it was the server's first day so understandable. We'll be back when in the area.
Not familiar with the restaurant but wanted to try something new. Quaint location and comfortable décor. Our server was very personable and informative and the food was amazing. An extremely loud group came in after we were seated, otherwise I would have rated the noise level much lower. The hummus was yummy as was the flatiron steak frites. The New York steak was OK. Most unusual was the fact that none of the entrees are on the menu. We originally thought all we could get for dinner was sandwiches, despite what we saw online. Glad we asked the waitress because she reeled off 6 "specials" which were their regular entrée options. The wine is very expensive at $19 for an 8 oz pour, which would have been OK had the wine been awesome. As it was the "Saved Red Blend" should not be saved. We would go back but would probably just order a beer and a martini next time.
Our first time to Venue 's Cafe, for Sunday Brunch. (Bottomless champagne, on weekends) We loved it and the wait staff where very attentive. The prices on all their meals is awesome considering they employ a French trained chef. We were a party of 3 and all ordered something different and all LOVED our meals. Can't wait to go back for dinner. The restaurant is super cute on a quiet street in Cave Creek. Also the owner came to our table introduced himself and told us about the resturant and the chef he employs....hope to talk to him next time we are there. BTW don't let the Cafe name scare you off....the food and ambience is so much better then a Cafe name conjures up in my mind.
SUPER FRIENDLY AND REALLY GOOD FOOD. You won't be sorry.
Venues has a great neighborhood ambiance, very friendly service and very good food. Some of the specials at happy hour in the summer are outstanding. We go to Venues a couple of times a month have not been disappointed yet. We usually eat fish or shellfish and it is cooked perfectly. I've had salmon several times and there is always risk in other places of it being overcooked and dry but never at Venues at least when you ask for it slightly rare. Terrific place, very much recommended. I marked quite on the noise level because even though there is conversation and laughter around the place you can still have a nice personal discussion. Ie: it's not quite because it's boring, it's quite because the acoustics are good.
Fries were cold when they come out. They also haven't had our reservations for the 4th time.
We have been going here almost every week for over a year, and it continues to get worse. The kitchen is slowing everything down, even though the servers are excellent. The cut in the staff has effected their efficiency also. Think twice if you dare.
Great service. Nice menu. Good food.
I will return.
I have a family of four and when we decide to eat out, we regularly like to try new places. Venue’s was a letdown at best and I must admit that I choose it based on the Open Table rating from other fellow diners.
There was no one in the place, yet the service was slow and inattentive. The food was poor and the prices were on the higher end.
Later my wife noted Yelp only gave it 3 stars. That is a stretch based on my experience. I will need to be dragged back into this establishment.
We love this place and to every Monday evening for "burger" night. Very enjoyable and great service.
Our group of 8 (including kids) enjoyed a meal recently at Venues. Food was overall of good quality, especially enjoyed my beet salad and mussel apoetizer. Flatbread was a good start to our meal, and scallop entree was devoured by my friend. Only complaint was the kids buttered noodles were so dry and crusty you would have thought they had been refried 4 times before being served. Although I saw many reviews about bad service, ours was fine.
Menu was nice and food was very good. Service was fair because the restaurant was fairly crowded and our waitress deleted one of our orders. They did not charge us for the missing order when it finally came after everyone was finished, so that was a plus.
I have been twice in the last two weeks. First time was on Friday night with a party of 2. Food and service were perfect. The second in time went with a patty of 7 on a Saturday. Service was a bit slower but might be expected with a large group. Every one ages 5 to 71 raved about the food. That is impressive for any group. This even included 2 vegetarians!
We made our reservation late, and the hostess was not expecting us, but she was just lovely about it and went out of her way to make us comfortable. The waiter was strange, and when he brought our wine, he served my husband first. I thought it was because I was further from the station, but a couple sat next to us on reverse sides, and he went out of his way to serve the man first. Also, he never asked if I wanted another glass with dinner. The hostess finally did that. We started with salads, I had the beet salad, and added calamari. The salad was beautiful, and the calamari was sauteed to perfection. Then we had the seafood risotto. What a disappointment!!! The seafood was perfectly prepared, but the risotto was a gelatinous glob! I will try this restaurant again, but I'll never order the risotto!
The food was ok, but the service, management and everything about it was a mess.
Despite the fact only a few people were at the restaurant, the soup came out late and was cold (it clearly was sitting in the kitchen while the waitress was talking to other people), no one could figure out how to change the tv stations so the football game could be watched and service was lackadaisical at best.
The food was decent, but with so many things going wrong, it was hard to enjoy.
Outstanding place to go for food and service. Go early. If they are busy, it will take a while.
The only place to go in Carefree for a great time, with great service and food.
When we go out to eat, we want the food to be better than we can cook. The drinks here were excellent. The appetizers (like bar snacks) were good. The entrees were disappointing. I don't know why it got such good reviews - that is why we tried it since it is local and we like to support local businesses.
You can't miss going to Venue's for an casual dinner. Great food and service. Good deals on Happy Hours as well.
Hostess could not locate our open table reservation for 6. Once seated service was slow, although cordial. Although not particularly busy for a Friday night it was over 50 minutes before we were served. When I mentioned the fact to the server, she went into the kitchen and produced the print out of our order that demonstrated we'd only been waiting 30 minutes since the order went in. Never did understand why it took an additional 20 minutes to turn in the order. Turkey sliders I ordered were apparently ground turkey; tasted like sausage; dressing had no flavor. Had not been there since last February when we were asked to vacate our table less than an hour after we were seated because ". . .other customers were waiting." On that occasion, the order of one in our party was "misplaced," she was consequently served late had not finished eating. Too many good places to eat in the area to waste any more time at Venue.
You can't beat this place for great food and service.
Always a pleasure to go somewhere where " everybody knows your name"!!!!
Been to Venues a few times for lunch and dinner. Good food and service before but this time we invited friends for the first time and were somewhat embarrassed. Maybe bad luck, but the Brunch menu was cut in half because they were expecting high volume due to arts show right outside...nothing on their website about that when we checked menu before we booked on OT. And when we got there at 11a on Sunday and there were only 2 other tables occupied at the time and left at noon with it maybe half full. Server was smarta** and inattentive...20 min. to get water (in cheap plastic cups) refills. And forgot juice order for one guest. Will still try again based on better previous visits and I think they just guessed wrong on the traffic.
