2nd visit in 3 months & thoroughly enjoyed both times! Food is wonderful, service is great & totally love the atmosphere. Will most definitely return again!
Spaghetti Carbonara, homemade gnocchi and the short rib were outstanding! Personal size Margarita pie was a little too bland.
Service was just okay however it appeared they were short staffed and our server was trying to take care of too many tables.
The most notable memory of our dining experience was how exceptional hot it was in the restaurant. Half way through the meal we took our sweaters off down to our undergarments. We
were perspiring. Towards the end of the meal we finally said something and the server opened the door which gave us a bit of relief but the next person in closed the door.
With all that said we would return if beforehand we could confirm it wouldn’t be so hot.
Very nice traditional Italian restaurant. Very small, but nice and cozy interior. Truly excellent food and menu choices. Attentive and professional waiter. The sort of place I would dine at once a week if I lived in San Francisco. Will return on my next trip.
I’ve been dining here for 20 years and the food standards have always been excellent and better. Lovely atmosphere and views.
We done at Venticello every time we visit San Francisco.
First impression was positive as we were greeted by the hostess and seated at a nice table for two. The experience quickly eroded when our disinterested waiter arrived to tell us about the soup of the day, one special, no ribeye ending with “that’s it” The homemade meatballs were over cooked dry lumps of hamburger and prepared in a crock of tomato sauce that completely covered the meatballs. I had to stir the spoon around to find them. The minestrone was bland. The Fettuccine was good but the portion was average at best. It could have been an off night.
Ambience very quiet and romantic. Food very good. Caesar salad perfect. I loved my meatballs & my husband loved his pasta marinara. Will definitely go back.
I first ate at Venticello's 22 years ago and loved it. The food is great and the atmosphere is cozy and warm. I moved away from San Francisco about a year later, but I had such fond memories of the place that when I was in town recently on business, I sought them out. I was happy to see that they were still in business and the food and the ambience had not changed. They are in a residential neighborhood located at the top of a hill, and from the entrance (and a few of the window tables) you can see the Bay Bridge, which is currently lit up with a cool light installation. I definitely recommend this restaurant to couples seeking a romantic restaurant or to anyone who wants a great meal in a warm and cozy environment.
Excellent food, excellent service, beautiful neighborhood.
Very nice local spot. Small and cozy, food was very good. Menu a bit limited, but we enjoyed our meals and would definitely go back.
Wonderful experience. Nice ambiance, great food and wine. The restaurant was lively ( a little loud) but that is to be expected at a busy restaurant.
Great ambience, food, very crowded, busy, service a little slow probably due to how busy it was.. highly recommend
Great restaurant. Super cozy and the staff was really nice. The food was delicious! Their pasta was perfectly seasoned and cocked al dente. Their tiramisu is a killer. Amazing spot for a romantic dinner.
The food was very good but the service needed to be a little better. I would still go again or recommend it to a friend.
In spite of an Open Table Reservation, for which we arrived 5 minutes early, we had to wait 35 minutes for a table, with no place to sit while waiting. Entertaining guests from out of town, it was very embarrassing to wait that long. The room was so noisy we couldn't hear each other speak.
Great food, great value, friendly service
Came for our anniversary. Drinks at the Fairmont, then walked the few short blocks to the restaurant. I’d hate to try and find parking, so glad we were staying near by. The cable car does run right buy the restaurant, so if you have access, that might be a good way to arrive.
Food was very good. We stuck to pasta for this, along with a nice glass of Italian red. The pizza oven smelled good as well.
Overall met our expectations for a special occasion dinner.
The service was impeccable!! The food was outstanding and done to perfection.
This wonderful family restaurant is as impressive for the hospitality and sensitivity of the servers as it is for its outstanding food! I had a perfect view of the lights on the Bay Bridge and my dinner partner was just as happy with her view of the lovely restaurant and service.
Told the restaurant ahead of time that we were celebrating a birthday, and they did a wonderful job of making the night special. We were greeted with a "happy birthday" as well as a complimentary (and delicious) tiramisu.
Must have the eggplant appetizer (amazing tomato sauce and melt-in-your-mouth ricotta).
Excellent lamb and yummy gnocchi.
Definitely a good spot for special occasions or date night.
Birthday. Service was sluggish and "spacey". Pasta dishes were good but salads were bland, especially the caesar salad. Tiramisu dessert was exceptionally good.
Amazing food and service!
What a wonderful dinner we had last night; Just wanted to go out and have a nice cozy meal. The eggplant appetizer, with marinara sauce and melted mozzarella, served in a small piping hot iron skillet was fantastic. We used our foccacia to soak up every drop. Loved the pizza fired right there in the nearby brick oven and the gnocchi w/mushrooms was rich and delicious as well. Finished off with a lovely glass of Pinot, served by the glass (we were told it's the owner's favorite). I highly recommend trying this lovely gem of restaurant.
VENTICELLOS deserves a Michelin Star for for its creativity and flavors & the Legion of Merit medal for THE MOST GRACIOUS SERVIC.
Especially Tim & the Mr Ciba modem
Consistently reliable Nob Hill gem ESPECIALLY if you’re known to them!
Well run operation in spite of the fact you’re kept waiting in spite of having a reservation!
We went here for my partner's birthday because it's only blocks from our apartment. We have been living in the neighborhood for several years, but we've always opted for Venticello's sister restaurant, Nob Hill Cafe, also on Taylor Street, a few blocks away. In short: Venticello has the better ambiance, it's more romantic, and you can make reservations with them. However, we both agreed, Nob Hill Cafe is better in terms of the quality and portions of the food and the service. Our waiter at Venticello was absent from most of our meal and didn't check in to see if we wanted anything more (pepper, cheese, a refill on our empty drinks). We left feeling disappointed, particularly in the service -- given the price is more than Nob Hill Cafe but with little added value. We will likely stick to Nob Hill Cafe when needed nearby Italian moving forward.
Venticello has a cozy atmosphere, superb, unobtrusive but attentive service and fabulous food.
This is a great neighborhood Italian restaraunt with cozy ambiance and attentive service. The food is great and I've come back here 5 times in my last 6 months.
Always come when we are in the city. Great ambiance and Great food!!
Thank you, Bob S.
I'm a fan of the Venticello, and I never miss a chance to get a dinner there every time I go to SF, either alone or not (ok, that's an average of... every two years, Europe is a long way from SF). That time however, we've been disappointed: very slow service (we were not in a hurry, but 2 hours for an entrée and a desert...), rather small serves, and above all too busy and such very noisy. Anyway, I probably come back next time.
It was New Year’s Eve. Our reservation was at 9:30pm but they informed us they wouldn’t be ready until 9:45pm. There was a noticeable and significant lull in between courses. Once we were done with the course, our plates were cleared, but we waited at least 15-20 minutes for the next course. I am not sure if they were extremely busy for the holiday and just trying to catch up. The food was delicious.
Excellent new year’s eve at Venticello’s.
Venticello is consistently good and great for the neighborhood. There isn't a bad item on the menu and service is consistently fine, and often good.
Very consistent locals restaurant. A very friendly staff makes Venticello an easy choice when recommending a Nob Hill eatery. The Caesar salad and the special pastas are recommended .
Great food and wonderful service, will be back again.
Cozy and delightful restaurant, good food, good service. Portions small but quality good.
Wonderful restaurant nestled atop Knob Hill. A favorite every time I visit San Francisco:)
Food great, wine expensive
Made reservations WAY AHEAD OF TIME FOR Christmas Eve......ended up waiting two hours....Came from out of town, very upsetting.....
Came to Venticello for Christmas Eve dinner this year. It was crazy busy and we had to wait about 30min past our reservation time to be seated, BUT we did get a round a free cocktails while we waited. The food was amazing as are the views of the bay bridge. Would definitely recommend!
