Recognized as one of the most romantic restaurants in San Francisco, we are located just a few blocks away from the historical Mark Hopkins and Fairmont Hotels, as well as walking distance from the Huntington Hotel, The Stanford Court, and the Ritz- Carlton Hotel.
As you walk into Venticello, you will enter our upstairs area. Our full and complete wooden bar is supplied with an array of distilled spirits as well as some of the finest Italian and Californian wines. This allows you and your guests to enjoy a variety of beverages while hearing the Cable Car bell ring just outside our front door.
Venticello, meaning soft breeze, will sweep you and your guests away with an unforgettable experience.
This has been one of our favorite restaurants for at least 20 years! The staff has been around for a long time which tells you quite a lot about how well it is managed. The food is wonderful and you can't beat the location on the cable car line. Sit downstairs, in a corner window if you can get it, for a special dining experience. Or sit upstairs, at the bar if seats are available, for a more impromptu night out. No matter, you will never go wrong with this restaurant.
Best I ever had
Always consistent. This is our neighborhood go to spot!
Service a little on slow side but food good and overall good experience.
Romantic; obsessed with the prawns and carbonara; love the neighborhood views
A San Franciscan of average income would consider Venticello an expensive restaurant. Yet, like most restaurants in the city, it's noisy, overpriced and the waiting staff makes you feel like you have to eat and leave, so the table can be turned over to someone else. In general, San Francisco restaurants do not offer much value for the cost, which typically starts at more than $100 for two people without tip. Venticello is just another one of those restaurants.
Service was kind, friendly and quick.
The food was ok, but not too special. The beef skirt and vegetables were a little over cooked and spiced up for me.
Crowded, but great service
Pretty good food, awful service. Won’t go back.
Venticello is a great place on Nob Hill to go for Italian. Start with the Meatballs or Caprese. Try a pizza or the Spaghetti Carbonara. Don't forget dessert, the chocolate torte is to die for.
Great neighborhood gem. Gets loud as the night progresses but the food is fabulous
Very classy and aesthetic place for little Italy view and delicious food as well
Definitely a neighborhood gem. We were greeted by a fantastic host. He was very pleasant with a wonderful personality. I said wow...we hit a jackpot. Then we were seated and had a waitress totally opposite....NO personality. Knowing it was our first visit to the restaurant she offered no suggestions or guidance. The food was tasty maybe not as authentic as I would have thought for a quaint Italian restaurant. Overall a nice date night restaurant, but not a special occasion restaurant.
Great service. That the noise level s down is a big factor why we like Vinticello...but of course it's the food and service
First off, I appreciate the hostess be very gracious when I called having realized our reservation was at 730pm and not 8. She was very sweet, greeting us at 815 with a smile and nice welcome even though we were essentially 45 minutes late. Service was also very good, both the server and the bussers, they were attentive and on top of it without interrupting our dinner. Food was very fresh and with great flavor, good price and value. I loved the ambiance which to me felt like a small cozy traditional Italian restaurant.
I even recommended this to some of our friends who live in SF.
Went for date night. Smaller restaurant, intimate setting, high ceilings, and pretty views of the bay bridge from outside.
Appetizers: Eggplant Parmesan and beef carpaccio - the carpaccio was delicious. Split the sausage pizza too, which was really good, lots of toppings which I appreciated.
Pasta: carbonara and the special they had for the night, linguine pesto. Both were solid.
Dessert: for the tiramisu to go, delicious!
We’ve walked by this restaurant countless times since moving to the neighborhood and decided to try it out for our anniversary. We couldn’t have been more pleased. Food and service was excellent. It’s very noisy, though, so it’s not ideal for an intimate evening. Menu is a little on the light side but we will definitely return now that we’ve experienced the quality service and food.
We enjoyed our meal at this restaurant. We are rarely in this neighborhood, and it was nice to find a reliable choice that is geared as much to locals as tourists. The food was kind of old-school (80s-90s, I would say), but good. The waitress got my order wrong, then promptly and graciously corrected it; I felt bad about that because what she brought may well have been better than what I actually ordered. The service was all very attentive. The atmosphere was warm, with friends seeming to have a good time all around us. Of course it is impossible to tell where people are from, but I would guess that half were tourists and half live in San Francisco. It felt right. Not trendy or pretentious, just good Italian food in a pleasant place.
Still a great restaurant after all these years & terrific well priced wine list. Romantic and wonderful service
Excellent dinner and wonderful and friendly atmosphere!
Nice meals, generous, tasty. We appreciated the quality of the ingredients. The service was excellent.
Lovely from beginning to end.
Venticello was great! We've been meaning to go for a long time, and we're glad we did. It's in an awesome spot in Nob Hill, the ambiance is really quaint and romantic, the food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. The one slight critique I would give is that the food took a little while to arrive, but no harm done. Definitely recommend.
Super cozy Italian. Excellent food and service. Will return!
What can I say...EXCELLENT!
Greeting as we walked in...fabulous service from Pablo...outstanding pasta... gnocchi...carpaccio...salad with Bosc pear and blue cheese...and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for our anniversary dessert ❤️
Salmon main entree was cooked perfectly, however the carbonara dish was tasteless (flavorless). Disappointing.
We went for our 29th anniversary - hadn't been in over 10 years - still great! The pork chop did not disappoint! Great service too!
This is a great little Italian restaurant sitting on a hillside with a clear view of the Bay Bridge. Sat at a small 6 seat bar and enjoyed a glass of wine waiting for my friend. The owner encouraged us to wait a few minutes so he could clear a quieter table on the upper level. It was impressive that a relatively empty restaurant at 6:15 was fully packed by 7:15. Food was excellent. Pork chop with butter beans and sauteed kale was delicious. Beet salad was great and the fettuccine homemade and cooked to perfection. Only slight service snafu's like serving a dry Cesar salad to my buddy or not being sure who has what dish kept this from a 5-star review. I will be back for sure.
We had not been to Venticello in 10 years and thought wed give it another try esp for the meatballs I remember from previous visit. The interior restaurant looks exactly as it did when we went years ago...in fact it looks due for a deep clean or some painting or sprucing up (maybe freshen bathrooms?) Just looking a bit tired..
The meatballs came and the bowl/ plate was soooo hot that the meatballs continued to steam with vapor rising for almost 15 minutes after it's arrival which my husband and I got a kick out of because we have never seen anything like that! Unfortunately it continued to cook the meatballs too which tasted uber done. The flavor from spices and sauce was there but they could have perhaps backed off the the heat element they used. My husband said his lamb shops were good and we enjoyed the wine and said we shared. Service was fine...
The pasta is made fresh daily & is delicious. I recommend the spaghetti carbonara. The place is very cramped though.
Venticello serves decent Italian food that hits the spot. It isn't anything to write home about as far as memorable or special Italian. It is located in a great location in the city. The restaurant is cozy with a nice Italian ambiance. The service is good. The wine selection is good.
Great food and service
Wonderful food and service!
It was our anniversary and the hostess reserved a perfect table in the corner by the window . As always the restaurant was crowded and very festive for the holidays. I believe they were short staffed for waiters because the service was very slow and the people at the table next to us seemed frustrated that it took 15 minutes to get their dessert. They serve the BEST caesar salad! Will return again.
Hidden gem close to Nob Hill. Small, cozy split level restaurant. Food was outstanding, we all ordered something different & cleaned our plates! Will definitely go back!
Always great. We go there before Xmas after the afternoon Xmas Concert at Grace Cathedral . Wonderful have a window seat and love to watch the cable cars go by. Everything is first rate . Food service and ambiance.
Wonderful, As Always!
I eat at Venticello whenever I am attending an evening event in Grace Cathedral. The food is delicious, the service is good, and the location is convenient.
Bet pleasant and enjoyable place to dine. Outstanding food.
I always enjoy Venticello. It is a mainstay for dinner when we're going to an evening event at Grace Cathedral. This time is was to hear 'The Messiah."
