Venable is one of our favorite restaurants. We celebrated Father's Day this past Sunday. Had early reservation (5:30), so it was pretty quiet then. The food is always excellent, and service, the best!
Food, service & ambience were great. Really nothing but good things to say. I’ll be back!
We had a good time. Enjoyed the food. Good amount of food. Very active, exciting restaurant. Friendly servers.
Everyone loved it! I had the udon noodles and they did not disappoint!
Consistent excellent food and service. Good vegetarian options.
Excellent food. Great service. Our kids found food they enjoyed, and everyone was happy. Overall, we love this place.
Excellent food and service in pleasant environment.
The service was excellent but my dinner was frankly mediocre to poor. Disappointing.
Fast, friendly and professional. Perfect service and top score for the menu.
I've eaten at Venable many times and have often enjoyed the roast beef sandwich, the banh mi and the truffle artichoke dip. This time, I opted for the special: sauteed scallops on a bed of well-seasoned, creamy mashed potatoes studded with tender fava beans and pearl onions. It was probably the best meal I've ever had there. I can't remember ever having had fresher, sweeter, or more tender scallops, and the other ingredients set them off perfectly. Preceded by that truffle artichoke dip, followed by a really good tiramisu and accompanied by a local draft pilsner, it was my best restaurant meal in months. The waiter was friendly but not fawning, knew when to come and when to stay away. No getting around the fact that the place is noisy,
but the food made that small annoyance disappear
Great food and experience. Service was quick and efficient. Highly recommend!!!
Feels Like Home
Venable is like the neighborhood restaurant when remember from when you were a kid -- comfortable and dependable -- except the food and friendly service are way better and the atmosphere is just right. It's not the quietest place around, but you the booths are great for conversation, and the food is excellent. The menu is varied enough that anyone should be able to find at least two or three entrees that appeal to them.
Pleasant surprise, the food was very good , especially the herb chicken and apple dessert . Reasonable prices and great food make for a good evening .
Noise level is very high, might be hard for seniors on a busy night.
We made reservations for lunch with our Mom and the experience was excellent. Staff were attentive and friendly and Venable offers delicious and well-prepared food. Highly recommend this bistro for any occasion.
The server was excellent as was the food. The only problem was that the space is a little noisy so conversation for 5 people was a little difficult, but we will definitely go back. The salmon was terrific.
Upon being seated waiter was very attentive but after appetizer came we never saw him again, other servers brought our food and we had difficulty ordering further glasses of wine and beer.
Six in our family recently celebrated my grandson's 10th birthday at an early evening dinner. We sat outside, where the weather was perfect and the sound level pleasing to elders who are hard of hearing. Food was wonderful, as always!
The mashed potatoes ( paired with the fried chicken) are decadent.
As always , Venable aimed to please and it did! The honey chipotle salmon was wonderful atop creamed potatoes and garlic spinach. I ate it all! My husband had the mussels appetizer which he said was very good and baby back ribs done just right. Our friend had the trout and said it was so good! We will be back! In fact I was there a week prior for lunch and had the fish tacos which are by far the best fish taos I have had! The sauce is fabulous!
Venable is consistently good - both food and service.
There were eggshells in my breakfast and it was altogether kind of horrific for that reason...
Best entrees we have ever had and have been coming to Veneables since it opened. Loved the monkfish special and glazed salmon!!!!!
My wife and I have eaten here twice recently, with a different couple each time. All of us enjoyed our meals. The steaks are delicious. The creamy potatoes and cauliflower are also very good. We have been pleased with a couple choices of "the appetizer of the day". The wine list is very good. There are many beers, tho some similar bistros have broader selections. Service is efficient and courteous but not rushed. While it is only moderately noisy, the acoustics can be challenging for us older folks, especially those with hearing aids, tho we discovered that it is easier to converse at the tables or the bar on the bar side.
The server was very articulate when announcing the specials. Two of us opted for the beet-goat cheese salad which was not very good. Beets and goat cheese didn't have much flavor and red lettuce was disappointing. The server brought our bills on time, but never thanked us for dining with them. Very disappointed in this restaurant that I had frequented several times previously. Will wait to go back.
Food was good. Atmoshpere was nice, but a bit loud. What really prompted this review was the waitress. She was very unfriendly, not very helpful and asked us if we wanted seperate checks without even asking if we wanted dessert.
Venable's is one of our favorite brunch places! The food is consistently delicious, uses fresh ingredients, and is beautifully presented. The waitpersons are attentive and often a lot of fun. I have my favorites (huevos rancheros, or the herbed eggs) and my husband has his favorites (green chili pork stew or eggs/bacon/potato pancake), but we also have enjoyed a number of the brunch specials. (We hear that they also serve delicious lunches and dinners. We just prefer to go out for brunch on Saturday or Sunday.)
We really enjoyed our evening at Venable. The staff was friendly and were well informed about the menu. The menu offers gluten free options and the server was knowledgable about options for someone who has celiac disease. All of our meals were delicious and we just enjoyed the cozy and warm atmosphere . It is lively but not so loud that you can't enjoy your conversation around the table.
My husband and I always enjoy dining at Venable. The food is consistently excellent, and the service is always friendly and professional. We are sometimes joined by adult children and grandchildren, and everyone is able to find something they really enjoy on the menu.
Food was so high in fast. Virtually NO healthy options. I had the salad, and it wasn't no interesting, had absolutely no dressing, tomatoes on it were not ripe or even close. Husband's eggs benedict were poor. Overall, very disappointing.
Portions were a little below average compared to pricing. Food was overpowered by rosemary and herbs. Service was good and atmosphere was nice.
It has great cocktails and a vegan, vegetarian, gf/celiacs friendly menu with lots of options for the high quality of experience they are offering.
This is on of our favorite restaurants and we always ecosmmend it to f fiends when they want to get together.
Wonderful all round
We had a reservation for Sunday brunch at Venable that unexpectedly grew from five to nine people. We were lucky that it was still spring break, but the staff was unflustered, accomodating, and the food was its regular excellent self. Out-of-towners (here for a reunion) remarked on how lucky we were to have a place like Venable nearby.
liked the decor; liked the service ... food was only slightly above average and, as i consider myself a foodie, probably will try somewhere else next time i'm in Carrboro.
Food was excellent and varied. The Huevos were as good as I have had anywhere including restaurants in New Mexico. The pork stew with green chilies was also top notch. Cold brew was terrific. The only issues were a minor reservation snafu, restaurant was packed, and noise level which made conversation difficult. Service was excellent .
Wonderful brunch as always. Never disappointed coming here!
We found the brunch to be creative and good in terms of taste, but pretty insubstantial overall. None of us felt like we'd actually eaten afterwards, except for the person who had french toast. The seating in window nooks and by the windows is really comfortable and conducive to conversation and enjoying natural light. Staff are nice.
Alison was a great server. Ask for her when you arrive.
