The Velvet Room is a restaurant and event space inside the Clift Hotel. This particular dining space was designed as a sister restaurant to the hotel's other eatery, The Redwood Room. While The Redwood Room takes care of midday with lunch and dinner service, The Velvet Room is open early for breakfast and late at night for special events. The interior is immaculately and dramatically decorated, with leather and wood mahogany banquettes, red velvet curtains and hand-blown Murano glass lamps gently lighting the room. The Velvet Room's breakfast menu was created by Head Chef Thomas Weibull in a joint effort with local farmers and growers so that only the very best seasonal ingredients would be used. Menu items include smoked salmon benedict, centennial French toast and skillet eggs that are baked with spinach, onions, tomato and prosciutto. At night, The Velvet Room becomes a high-end club, hosting social events.

The Clift is always great for dramatic interiors and dramatic dining . . . We actually ate in the Redwood Room which I prefer.

A cool restaurant in a cool hotel. Awesome decor and a nice bar right next to it. Food is good but not amazing. On the pricey side.

My office went to The Velvet Room for an office/team outing last week. We had a reservation at 8pm... we didn't get our first round of drinks until about 8:30... from the point of ordering our entrees to the point that the food was served, it took about 45 minutes... way too long! Having said that, the ambiance is really cool, the servers were nice, and the food was really good. I'd go back but would be hesitant to plan a large party there again.

Not very good at all. Service is slow. Food is subpar. With so much good food in SF area, skip this one.

Good food and decor. Lobster Mac and beet salad was yummy. Service was great. Only downfall was the bar was soooooo loud it was like club scene not a good spot for a romantic quite dinner past 9pm

This was my second time dining here and I absolutely love the space. It's sad because this restaurant has the potential the be great! First I would brighten it up at bit as it's too dark. There were only 4 tables dinning and still waters, drinks and ordering or asking for a new napkin was like pulling teeth. I saw staff members standing around doing nothing while one or two staff members ran around all flustered. The food was good but not great. I want to love this place because I like it and think it can be a great place but they need better staff, a revamp in the menu and more inviting decor. I will return but hope they step up their game.

We booked this as someone recommended the bar and we thought the restaurant looked cool. However despite serving a table for 8pm on a Saturday we were one of only 4 tables in the restaurant. The wine list was good and food good, however it was all a bit expensive for a restaurant lacking in atmosphere. In fact the quietness of the restaurant accentuated the fact that the bar was so busy.
