Veladora Ratings and Reviews
The dinner meal was exceptional for all 3 of us. Very fresh ingredients in the salads. The Rib Cap steaks met all of our specifications- outstanding quality meat. The irish salmon was very delicate- my wife indicated she has ever had.
We frequent this restaurant at least every 2 months- it seem better each time-if that is possible.
Terrible terrible meal the rigatoni mayaquez was off, sour and hit me badly internally the next morning. Some of the fault was mine for not sending it right back and having something else. We are locals and it will be a long long long time before we ever return. An anniversary spoiled!
I'm a big fan of Veladora and the Pony Club. I've had FANTASTIC dinners at both restaurants.
Butt.... my last meal at Veladora was just OK - and that's sad for the caliber of this restaurant.
It was probably just being overwhelmed with holiday diners, but I was embarassed to have brought first time guests to what I exclaimed to be the "best restraunt in San Diego" Normally, you can always count on Veladora's excellent chef's to deliver great food and the service is generally good, and was amazing when Marcia was taking care of us. But my sole was mushy and was served with a couple little potatoes - really? for $60. The risotto my daughter had was poorly seasoned and undercooked - the salmon was reported to be good another guest enjoyed, the pasta was boring. The sommelier was no where to be found and the "normal" 2010 Leoville Barton was substituted wtih a 2014 on the wine list which I stupidly ordered without paying attention to the vintage - my mistake. But seriously, what in the world is a quality restraunt like Veladora doing serving a 2014 Bordeaux - this is infanticide. The 2010's are barely drinkable and they know that. Lets hope this wonderful jewel isn't going downhill.
Veladora is not the same experience it once was. The quality of the experience has been reduced while the cost is same or higher. The buffet table has roughly half the items it once had, bringing frowns to my entire family. Once a highlight of the experience, it’s now a disappointing memory of what used to be.
Today’s experience was further detracted by inexplicable unpreparedness by the kitchen. An item on the menu was simply “unavailable”. How does this occur? Why is something on the menu that’s not available! This is not the corner greasy spoon. Isn’t the menu made fresh? Very very disappointing.
After years of frequenting Veladora, we will sadly have to remove it from our routine. Exquisite attention to detail has been replaced by pure disappointment.
On a positive note, the wait staff was outstanding and attentive. Sad that the management could not match the performance of its employees.
I have eaten here several times in the past and found the food excellent. The old ownership and new. On the 16th, a celebration of an important birthday, I cannot say the same. The whole experience was disappointing. Food and service. Not to mention I was asked about our occasion when we booked and instead of getting a customary treat for the birthday we found ourselves walking around the restaurant to locate our server for the check. I'm not sure if it was the crowds during the holiday season but in the end, it doesn't matter. I will not be back. There are too many other choices.
This is our go to spot in Rancho Santa Fe. My husband and I love Veladora for the amazing food, superb service and beautiful ambiance. The grounds are amazing.
Also the last few years we have been spending Mother's day and Christmas at Rancho Valencia enjoying their buffet and festivities. Wonderful if you have children!
My wife and I always enjoy this restaurant. The entire experience is always first class. There are many small details that the staff gets just right, which make a special occasion that much more special. I have been to other high-end restaurants that do not offer the complete experience that Veladora does.
Pros: Lovely setting. Great wine list. Excellent and attentive service.
Cons: Food is mostly well-prepared (one dish had to be sent back due to over-salting and the Meyer lemon sponge cake desert was dull in every way except for its unusual presentation), but it's just not very interesting, especially for the price.
We definitely will return to Veladora. The atmosphere was amazing, the service was attentive without being pretentious, and the food was creative and delicious. The wine list was quite extensive, but the sommelier was knowledgeable and helpful in offering suggestions.
We ordered Dover Sole Meuniere, which came poached, bland, and covered in a milky sauce. With the fish being filleted in the kitchen, not at the table, I wonder what was served to us at $60 per plate. Did not look or taste like Dover sole, that is for sure. Shame on you, Veladora! Skip this one and go to the Pony Room next door.
I’ve been here twice over the last few weeks and I love the beautiful grounds so it pains me to write this review but the output from the kitchen is very inconsistent. About four weeks ago I ate dinner in the Pony Room. I had an appetizer with prosciutto and melon. When I received the plate I thought there was a white sauce surrounding the melon and went to try it only to discover it was the prosciutto which was 90% fat. I was disappointed and sent it back to the kitchen. The second plate came out with a much better selection of prosciutto although much, much smaller. Last night I went here was to celebrate my birthday with my family. Four of the 6 of us ordered the Pork Iberico plate, which I had ordered the previous time when I found it delicious. Sadly, I was the only one of the four of us to not receive the gnocchi on my plate that is listed on the menu. Again, it’s extremely disappointing. This should be a five star restaurant, but I just can’t give it that with the inconsistencies in the kitchen.
This place was a hidden gem, beautiful place only wished I came earlier to see the views in the daylight. The service was top notched and had the best octopus in San Diego. I came for restaurant week and will definitely be back, maybe weekend getaway even. So close and tucked away. Love....
The meals for restaurant week are very interesting as to selection and very tastee. It was very fresh including selection of vegetables and greens -some what fusion. We dine and bring our own wine to this restaurant every 45 to 60 days. We always find it excellent in every way.
We were married at the Rancho Valencia a few years ago (fantastic place to have a wedding), so we always celebrate our anniversary every year at Veladora, plus always go just for dinner sometimes. We must admit, this dinner and the way we were treated was out of this world, we felt so special. The service was over the top, and the food was just wonderful. It was hard to pick something from the menu, all looked so good. It was one of the finest meals we have had in a long time. Everything was excellent, and we are so happy that we can celebrate our special occasions there. You must try it. You will not be disappointed.
