Veladora Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I went her for our 5 year anniversary as a recommendation from a friend, we were looking for something romantic that we have never been to before. The price is as advertised, it is not a cheap restaurant but the food and service was excellent. I let the hostess know via open table and phone call that it was our anniversary, they welcomed us we complimentary glass of champagne and an after dinner liquor. Definitely recommended for special occasions.
Veladora at Rancho Valencia is just one of the most beautiful settings I have seen in a long time. From the cocktails in the Pony Room to the dinner in the outdoor courtyard of Veladora, the entire experience was just outstanding. Read through the wine list thoroughly: there are some interesting wines throughout, at reasonable prices.
Can't believe I've never been to this restaurant before! What a treat, great value, delicious meals, wanted to get a second helping of the squash soup to go! Every detail of the restaurant was considered, from the lighting, to the view to the emblem on the wine glasses. Even the waiters wore blue jeans, which at first I thought was unusual, but all wore the same ones with a casual fit, and very professional looking with a stark white shirt. Food was perfectly displayed, the piece of salmon I got was more than I could eat. And we got a piece of homemade toffee to go - great touch! The only slightly critical item I'd mention is that their, by the glass, selection of wines could use a few more choices. I will be back!
Brought the family here for a birthday luncheon but they did not acknowledge it until after we were seated. The ambiance is nice, but the food is not up to par. Nothing we ordered was particularly good and the service was offhanded. To top it off, they cancelled my Opentable reservation *while* I was waiting 25 minutes for a flatbread. Wanted to like it but didn't.
We dined here for lunch and loved how peaceful the area was so close to town. The grounds are beautiful and the meal fantastic including the service. Many more dining trips to this establishment in the future. The grilled tuna salad and louis salad were big hits for us.
My friends loved the food and wine - our birthday celebrant was given complimentary champagne, and a wonderful dessert surprise! We asked our server, Tyler, if there was a walking area to see the gorgeous grounds, and he took us to the path which led us through the well kept landscape. The day was gorgeous for a walk, even though we left foggy skies in Oceanside. The parking attendant set my I-phone showing me the back route to get home (it was Friday, the freeway was jammed, and the phone is smarter than I am).
We love Veladora. Have been there on other occasions, a wonderful setting, friendly wait staff. Our waiter Richard was especially gracious and helpful. It was our anniversary and we were treated nearly as royalty, had a great booth at the window overlooking the grounds, very comfortable and delightful. Our dinner selections were perfect and the entire evening was one to remember for our special occasion.
Rare that I would ever "send something back" but the Dover Sole I was served was inedible. It was rubbery and hard to cut, even with a knife. Our server defended it saying "sole tends to be a firmer cut of fish." Excuse me? On the other hand, all others in our party enjoyed their meals as I did with the Octopus appetizer.
We expected the food prices to be higher and were pleasantly surprised as we found (other than the Sole) the prices to be very reasonable given the ambience, quality of the food and table settings.
The wine list is also very well priced with many very drinkable bottles less that $50. The sommelier's description of the bottle we ordered was spot on and exactly what we were looking for.
The restaurant has a quiet, pleasant atmosphere, while the bar has live music and a more vibrant scene.
Service is impecable, menu has a good variety of gourmet dishes. The Filet Mognon was excellent! Wine list a bit pricey but expected at such classy venue.
We had been going to the restaurant for years before the change. The music was so loud from the bar and in the restaurant we couldn't hear our guestsl. We told them we were taking them to a quiet restaurant. I was embarrassed. The people in the restaurant were mid-50 to 70. The music was not very fitting for the clientele. We will not come back unless we can sit outside in the summer.
Also the hostess wouldn't change our table since one of our guests had a bad back. She said all the tables were taken (at 5:45) and we couldn't change. There was not one other person in the place at that time. Of course, she smiled and apologized. It's a little hard to take that from someone that's about 19 years old that can't walk in heels!
Celebrating my parents 57th wedding Anniversary. Katrina was extremely attentive and helpful in finding a great table for us as my mother uses a walker and needed easy access. Perfect location was found for us at the window with a lovely view.
It was the first time visiting Veladora for my parents and they were thrilled.
Thank you for a lovely afternoon.
As my husband and I were married at this property we always return each year to celebrate---and each year we wonder why we only tend to come once during a 365 day span! Our service, starting from the hostess, through the attentive waiter (Hunter) and even the bus boy and a visit to the table by the manager, were all exceptional. Though certainly to the more expensive side, the plates were sizable and my husband's steak melted in his mouth---my swordfish was simple, yet delicious. Having cocktails in their bar beforehand is also special, with a bartender who knew his mixology. A definite for any special occasion, or when you just feel like being treated special/
Highly recommend the lovely restaurant all other days except Valentine's Day. So disappointing. Service was inattentive, flow from kitchen left us wondering if they forgot us. Wine pairings were perfect selections but they arrived long before the food they were supposed to be paired with so if you wanted to enjoy them together you had to discipline yourself to wait....and wait...
Usually a great place to dine, our recent visit for lunch was marred by abysmal service and mediocre food. The wine we ordered was unavailable; we were offerred a more expensive option at the increased price. Food service was sloppy; one order was briught out wrong and no bread was offered (it was to other tables). It seems as if the current management team has taken its eye off the ball.
Veladora recently redid their interior. The chairs are very uncomfortable - we had to move to a couch type seat to dine - the music is loud and hip hoppy - and their is really no good dining choice for parties over 4 - we were six and felt squeezed in - not what we want from a high end dining experience - it would have been ok for hamburgers and beer - the food was ok but not worth the price - a better dining choice at RV is the Pony Bar if you want good food at a good price in a casual environment - if you want a high end dining experience skip Veladora
The ambiance and service was spot on. The food choices during rest week were very good. My risotto was done almost perfectly. It was just a hair underdone. Good choices on entrees. They had a veg option. The dessert was amazing. But my chicken dish was slightly underwhelming. It was cooked perfectly but just boring. Will go back to try another dish
I took a good friend to Veladora to treat her to something special for her 82nd birthday. She was SO happy and impressed. The food was to die for and of course, the service and ambiance was perfect. My friend asked if she could take home one of the lemons that was in a decorative vase on the table and the girl actually went and got her 2 fresh ones with a beautiful smile. What a gem of a place right here in our own back yard! Absolutely delightful.
I loved the rustic feel of the restaurant and the views would be breathtaking especially during daytime lighting. The service was very good but lacked in the drink department. The octopus and beef tartare are incredible appetizers! The octopus had a surprisingly sweet flavor and definitely left us wanting more. I can't defer the bread either! The vinaigrette they give you go it has no words that could properly describe the impeccable flavor. The wild boar ragout and filet mignonette were also absolutely wonderful. Overall a wonderful dining experience and will definitely be returning soon.
Veladora is in the beautiful Rancho Valencia Resort and the restaurant, which was aways good, finally got tbe remodel it needed. It is beautiful now, quiet and the food and service are top notch. Very attentive to detail ( amuse bouche, candies with your coffee) and if its too quiet you can go next door to the very lively bar scene. Very nice experience!
This restaurant was a wonderful dining experience. Not hurried, impeccable service and fresh, clean, delicious food. The Chef was amazing. Because it was evening, we couldn't see any kind of a view but we will return during the day to see what we missed. I would highly recommend this restaurant for special occasions. However, I would prefer a more affordable wine list.
Was expecting more from a place that has the Relais moniker. The gougeres were a little overcooked. The market salad did not have enough contrast (i.e., all the vegetables were the same coldish temperature). There was not a crunchy element and it looked as if most of the vegetables had been steamed or lightly roasted. The puree in the wood roasted carrot salad had no flavor. The carrots were tasty however. The vegetarian pasta entrees were not memorable and the apple pie dessert was dry.
The service was good; however, when plates were brought to us, the different elements of the dish were not described to us. After dessert, we found it odd that we were not asked if we wanted coffee or tea. We will definitely give this place another shot
It was my sweetie's birthday and I took him to Veladora for what I hoped would be a special meal. The evening started out okay when we sat at the fire pit and had calamari which were good. When we were seated we split a salad which was fine. The Dover Sole ( a hefty $49.00) was singularly unimpressive in its preparation and taste. My sweetie sent back the artichoke canneloni as they were dry and instead ordered the vegetable plate which was dull. THe chocolate soufflé was very good. The dining experience was very disappointing considering I was willing to pay the price. The waiter was very accommodating although he was not responsible for the chef's inabilities.
My husband and I live in the ranch and frequent your restaurant. First and foremost, we are fans. We were dissapointed to see service slip on Friday when we took guests for dinner. My husband's order was delivered wrong three times. Don't know if it was a once-off or the waiters are not being properly trained. Thought to mention it so you can ensure that your high standards don't slip. It would be a pity.
Wonderful local restaurant with great food. Beautifully decorated in classy style. Great place if you want a quiet meal with friends. You can actually have a conversation (and hear) at the table. Although the server was pleasant, he disappeared for long periods on a slow night at the restaurant.
I have been here for both dinner and breakfast, and the experience has remained the same. Excellent. From the quality and thoughtfulness of the staff to the top tier quality of the food, Veladora should be in the top 5 SD restaurants for years to come. Don't miss the lemon soufflé pancakes.
