Vedge Ratings and Reviews
This was one of the most delicious meals we've ever had. It was so good that our dinner conversation was limited to the topic of the food and how good it was. I am vegan, so a fancy meal out is a special treat. The plates are small, so you're meant to order several, which is great because you can try a lot of different dishes. We ordered six dishes to share, and that was about the right amount. We ate slowly to savor the food, and left the restaurant pleasantly full but not stuffed. We did not get a great table, but we were late for our reservation so we were glad that they held it for us. Our server was helpful if not especially friendly, and the ambiance was elegant but not intimidating.
The vegetarian food was the best we have ever tasted! It was so creative, tasted so wonderful, presented well and all around unbelievable. Kudos to the chef. The waitress was really nice and attentive. Our only complaint - a big one - was the noise level while dining. It was difficult to have a conversation with another person. We finally had to sit next to each other which the table is not really made for. Hopefully, they can do something about the acoustics and resolve the noise problem. The architecture of the building was really nice.
As we expected, the dishes at Vedge were delicious and meticulously prepared and presented. Portions were small, which we expected and that was OK. The only drawbacks were that the restaurant was noisy and the food was too rich for most of the people at my table, who, ironically, being vegetarians, were somewhat health conscious.
The service was wondeful. I had a dozen roses delivered
And when I arrived they were already on the table. Great
Surprise ! The service was extremely nice and the food was
Absolutely amazing. Servings were small but worked out
Because we ordered more and got to try a lot more then
Expected. Would definitely go again.
Vedge lives up to its sterling reputation. I love vegetables, but I still wasn't convinced that they could be as magical and exciting as the restaurant's reviews led me to believe. But magical and exciting they are! It is expensive, but it feels like you are paying for something special, something not actually replicable with your own CSA at home. The setting is also great - it is surprisingly spacious yet cozy and comfortable in there.
Incredible, creative, absolutely delicious food. Friendly, professional service and presentation. Pleasant atmosphere, but loud in back near kitchen. Tall tables with backless wooden stools are very uncomfortable, but the tables with chairs look cozy. We will definitely return but will be sure to reserve a table with chairs.
It was so nice to be able to eat everything on the menu! Four of us -- one kosher, one vegetarian, two omnivores -- all thought the good was great. The space is beautiful, too, though a bit noisy at 8pm. Loved each dish and staff were helpful. We each had a drink, shared a few dishes and two desserts, and left $42 each with a good-sized tip.
Every single dish is as good as the next! This was about the fifth time dining at the Vedge. It is one of the best restaurants in the country, let alone one of the best vegan restaurant! So creative, so tasty and so elegant. The service was just as good as the food. Absolutely AWESOME dining!!!!
Vedge was a dining experience that I had been looking forward to very much before the theater. I did enjoy the food, but my only complaint is that the portions were very, very small, as I was sharing with a friend, and it was difficult to share a portion that was so minute.
We have tried to get a reservation and finally got one on the spot Wednesday. I am allergic to soy and usually have to go through a tiring process when I begin to order. Vedge has a soy-free menu!!! They also have a gluten-free menu. No more sorting on your own!!!
The food was delicious. My only suggestion is to ask them to be light on the oil if that is your preference.
Our waiter - Joe -- was very knowledgable as well as there whenever we needed something.
ordered 7 things between two people - flatbread is delicious but not overly complicated - heirloom tomatoes on flatbread - brussel sprouts are fine, but can make better at home - tofu had strange consistency and was just ok - fingerling potatoes were gross and too thick - ambiance is very nice and server very nice -
Small plates were incredible.....presentation & taste amazing!!!
Just a few semi-negative comments. Wine list was so marked-up....cheapest bottle was $40, sells for under $10 in state stores.
Our server was very attentive at first, but seemed to loose interest in us as restaurant got busier. We ordered 4 plates with the intention of maybe a 5th, but the table was cleared and she asked if we wanted dessert. Seemed like she couldn't wait to turn the table over.
We did order the 5th plate.
While I had my reservations when my wife booked a restaurant called Vedge for a Friday night reservation since I'm basically a "meat & potatoes" kind of guy, we had a wonderful dining experience as the food was amazing, service was excellent and the overall ambience made for a remarkable dining experience!
My daughter and I are vegetarians (former vegans) and finally we were able to get a reservation at Vedge! The wait was well worth it! Every course during the meal was delicious. The service was great...our waiter was extremely knowledgeable about the dishes and their ingredients and how many dishes to order (it is similar to tapas plates). I am actually returning with my other daughter at the end of the summer...I can't wait
My girlfriend and I had a reservation and even though we were a half hour early they seated us. Our waitress was very energetic and cheerful. She also knew the menu very well and was more than willing to give suggestions on dishes we were unsure about. I found everything we ordered fantastic. The most noteworthy dishes were definitely their cucumber avocado soup (it had a great mesh of different flavors) and the grilled seitan, although there really wasn't a single thing I tried that I didn't like.
I'd recommend this place to anyone, this is a great restaurant and I can't wait to go back
The food was delicious and certainly unexpected -- interesting twists on many different vegetables. It did feel, though, especially expensive. I've had food of equal or better quality and taste for significantly less at other area restaurants which serve some vegan fare but are not exclusively vegan. So while I love the idea of all vegan and the food was exquisite, I'm not as likely to turn back up here as other places in the neighborhood.
We've been dining at your restaurants since Willow Grove and so we are loyal customers/fans. But we miss the opportunity to enjoy an entree-now you take a few bites and the experience is over! Perhaps you could provide both entrees and small plates. Also, the lovely breads you used to provide are missed as well as the salads. Also, you really can use less salt and still have amazing flavor!
Please know we are grateful for your continuing creativity and it's a pleasure to dine with you!
We don't eat out often because we rather cook at home but it was a special occasion. I wanted something different from what we would make. I had read Horizons closed and that Vedge was the new and improved version. We are not vegans but the concept of gourmet vegetarian food intrigued us. The service was perfect, friendly and helpful. The food was so good we bought the Horizons cookbook and will purchase the new one when it is released. I don't normally follow recipes but got a few great pointers. My only suggestion is to clean the beautiful leaded windows. It will make the room sparkle.
I have been a patron of Vedge and its predecessors (Horizon, South St. and Willow Grove) for years. When Horizon moved to South St., the food was excellent as it had always been at the funky Willow Grove venue, but more refined and with drinks. My first visit to Vedge was disappointing because the cuisine was less inviting and considerable more expensive, but still a viable choice for a special occasion. But as a long time vegetarian, I was saddened that gourmet vegan/vegetarian fare was now priced in the elite range. My most recent visit was a deal-breaker. For two couples having five drinks and small portions of mediocre food, the bill came to just under $300 including tip. Look for good veggies elsewhere!
I am not a vegetarian. You will not find tofu in my refrigerator. But I must say the food at Vedge is absolutely delicious and would convert any carnivore. Mom was right "eat your veggies"! The atmosphere is charming and the service was excellent. Highly recommend the eggplant and the house speciality beets. The desserts (no dairy added) will amaze.
I was a bit disappointed-I'm not vegan, but eat lots of vegetables. Many of the dishes had an over powering smoked taste-don't know why they feel the need to add that, they have great quality ingredients, the smoke taste detracts. If I wanted a steak, I would go to a steak house...That said, several of the dishes were very good & interesting. Loved dipping the fries in the mushroom sauce. Happy we tried it, but won't return.
Great for carnivores willing to step out and try something new. We went to Vedge by recommendation on a romantic vacation and LOVED it. Everything from the ambiance to the food and service were great, and we are by no means vegans or vegetarians. But we appreciated being able to eat healthy, leave with full stomachs, and not be starving an hour or two later. Highly recommend!
What a wonderful experience! My thoughts on vegan eating were clearly "out of the dark ages" after this experience.
The food, its and the service of the food were all outstanding.
Small, but reasonable tapas size plates, required you to pick and choose several for your meal. Waitstaff were readily available to assist. Our party of four had numerous different dishes; all were just excellent.
The pace is easy but not slow and we felt the ambiance of our setting. Everyone around us seemed in their own world. Seating was so arranged and well thought out from the clients' perspectives.
Parking can be difficult, so cabs are more convenient and about the same cost. Located in center city with lots of cafes and parks around. Philly has become fun!
