Vedge Ratings and Reviews
I eat almost no vegetables. 4 of us ordered 13 of the 18 items on the menu, and we LOVED it! I have never tasted anything so delicious. My partner, whose birthday we were celebrating, declared it " the best meal I have ever had anywhere!!" A pretzel rutabaga fondue - ??? So fabulous! Very good vibes sort of place, beautifully presented dishes and pleasant, knowledgeable server. So grateful to have been referred by my niece. This was just the most amazing experience - cannot wait to return, and bring other non-vegetarians!
Vedge measures up to all of its hype. This restaurant is purely amazing. The service is quick and everyone at the restaurant is determined to insure a positive experience - from the manager holding the door on the way out to the bartender recommending drinks. This is the kind of food you eat and don't even notice it's vegan. Absolutely everything is delicious and just the perfect amount. They are killing it!!
Heard so many great reviews, we just had to try it for ourselves! Allison educated us about the menu and it was a fantastic journey. We began with bruschetta (fantastic). Rutabaga fondue with a soft pretzel bread. YUM Brussels sprouts and those potatoes were amazing! Loved it and we will return. Next time we will take it a little slower! Thank you, delish
The food is amazing and innovative. Simple and elegant. Nothing short of perfection. My favorite dishes are the Rutabaga Fondue and the Maitake Mushroom. Excellent wine list and superior service. I try to make it there once a week.
We were very impressed with Vedge - some of the most innovative vegetarian cooking we have ever experienced. Who would have thought to base a dish on a whole roasted carrot? Vedge do, and it works amazingly well. We shared all our courses because we wanted to experience as much variety as possible in one meal.
Vedge is one of our top 2 favorite restaurants in the city. We have lived in Los Angeles and New York and Vedge is up there with one of our favorites. The only downside and why I would say it is not our absolute favorite is the price. We really can only afford to come when we have saved up some money. And sure we could go and just get one dish each and only spend $12 bucks each but when I go out I like to EAT and the only way to be filled when leaving Vedge is to order at least 3-4 dishes each and when you throw a drink and dessert in there you are spending easy $150 bucks for a 2 person date. But they obviously are doing very well with the tapas format as you can't get a reservation at a normal decent time unless you go on a monday like we did. Still that being said. Great Great restaurant. one of our favorites.
I thought the food was good but over-priced, especially because the server advised our group of first time Vedge patrons to over-order. I noticed that people at surrounding tables ordered much more conservatively and were more than satisfied. The restaurant also seemed a little too self conscious for my taste. The people in the bar area seemed to be having a very good time and that might be the better place to go for a taste of the Vedge food - but the area was extremely noisy, so not good for conversation.
Interesting concept in menu presentation.
The first list of menu items are of moderate size. The next list of items are a larger plate, & the third list of offerings are small plates. So, depending on your level of hunger, you can control the quantity of food to match, by ordering varied plate sizes.
My second visit to Vedge, this time for a birthday date with my husband. They seated us next to one of the tall, narrow, old-fashioned windows, which had been opened to let the spring breeze & sunshine in, allowing us to peer at passersby on the street below. Housed in a historical Philadelphia building, the dining rooms here are usually intimately dark, but this spot was brighter. The cocktails we ordered before dinner were beautifully garnished with fruit & fresh herbs. We most enjoyed the vegan rutabaga fondue with soft pretzel bites - better than real cheese. Best approach is to order several items from each course, and don't skip dessert. Every dish is creative and satisfying.
A "must go" for the creativity and artistry of the food. Service seemed absent. At a "too small" table for 5 (reservation made 2 months ago) 10 of the 15 small plates showed up within 2 min of each other. As we tried to dispense of some by cleaning them it was far too difficult to have a server remove them. This was a Thursday night. Great food will take you so far.....
Vegans need to eat plenty of vegetables to get the necessary nutrients. When the server starts by explaining that the serving sizes are small and they recommend people order three dishes each, which cost $9-$15 each, then that's kind of a problem. There's no reason that a couple should have to spend $65 for a meal that only consisted of a few vegetables. Very good food, but not the best in Philly.
The food was good. However, the portions are so small that it's sort of laughable. The gentleman at the table next to us was trying hard not to have a hissy fit as his wife was praising the food. All my friends have had the same thought..... not enough food, not enough calories, not enough carbs.... something is missing. We were seriously hungry and I've never complained about that before.
The service was impeccable, Alison was highly attentive and answered every question and guided us on our meal selection. The food: Amazing! I loved every single item ordered -- the rutabaga fondue - wow!
You will not be disappointed dining here, I highly recommend this even to those who are not vegetarian/vegan.
They get great ingredients (where do they source such a large, sweet carrot?) and cook them imaginatively. Everything is just delicious. Highlights included the carrot, seitan, maitake mushroom, stuffed avocado, ramps, and brussels sprouts. And if feels good knowing that you are eating healthy non-processed food. The service was not as warm and friendly this past time, but that will not stop us from returning over and over.
What a great, cozy place for amazingly delicious food! I met with a couple friends for dinner, choosing Vedge because of it's reputation and it did not disappoint. My friends and I shared everything we ordered and our waitress was incredibly attentive to my food allergies, writing everything down and using this to give me menu advice. She even made sure that they took the nuts off a dessert we were all sharing long after I had forgotten I mentioned it. Overall, service was great and our table was cozy and the food - everything- was incredibly delicious! Also, my friends and I chatted for a while but never felt rushed. I can't wait to go back so I can bring my daughter!
I want to start off with I am a big meat eater, I love meat and have it everyday. I was hesitant in trying Vedge due to this. In the end, I was very satisfied. You do not miss the meat in the dishes due to the vibrant flavors and unique plates. Every bite was delicious and the flavors worked well together. We started with the stuffed avocado and pretzels. The stuffed avocado did taste like rice while the pretzel sauce taste like cheese. This carried out through the entire meal leaving all of us with fully and happy stomachs. I will definitely be back!
The ambience was perfect for a date night and special occasion. Low lighting but enough to easily read the menu. It was quiet to have a good dinner conversation.
The best dish of the night was the Rutabaga fondue with the soft pretzel. It had a similar taste to a french onion dip. We also had the salt roasted gold beets for appetizers. For entree, we had spicy ssamjang tofu and grilled sietan, both were deliciously well prepared. Today was very juicy yet firm and the sietan had a texture similar to pulled pork. Our sides were broccoli rabe and brussel sprouts.
The service was great and respectful, not overwhelming nor "in your face". Very polite and happy. A request was made for a candle during dessert, which came without any reminders after the online reservations.
Would definitely visit again and recommend to others.
Vedge is wonderful, its my family's go-to for special occasions. Both of my siblings are vegetarian but I'm not. I still love this place. There is always something new or surprising on the menu and the food is consistently above expectations. On this night we took my mother out for mother's day and they had a special, preset, family-style menu. While I prefer getting to chose my own meal, the meal was very good (with the exception of a turnip side dish that none of us cared for). I have been to Vedge numerous times and we're already planning another trip back this summer.
Give this place a try. Even if you're a meat-eater, the food is undeniably delicious.
