VB3 Ratings and Reviews
Although the food was authentic italian, phenomenal, the ambiance was very bad. There was a client by the bar who was drunk and was very loud and cursing and screaming all the time and the bartender and employees screamed and cursed along with him and the manager did not do anything about it until and called him and said it was not acceptable. They slowed down for a couple of minutes and then it came back to the same situation. I complemented the chef but I am not going back to eat at VB3
We had two different pastas which were both bad - one was way too oily with truffles and the other vodka sauce was tasteless. The only good thing was the meatballs. The service was subpar as they delivered our salad when they delivered our patas. We returned the salad as we didn't want to eat it with our pasta. The server never came over to apologize for the error. The music is loud, so unless you are going for a bar scene this place is not good for dinner ambiance. I would go here for a drink and meatballs. The meatballs are the reason they even got even a one star, otherwise one of the worst dinner experiences we have had in a long time.
We were looking for a chill, half way decent and affordable Italian restaurant and came across VB3. Our waiter was very attentive but he should have known their wines better. The food was edible but that is about it. Barely Italian, they should just say that they serve various forms of noodles with jar-tomato sauce on top. I will not return unless I just want a drink at their faux-swanky bar.
Maybe it's better earlier in the day, but we were just trying to grab a good dinner around 10 pm near our hotel. Food was great. But considering that there were more servers/bartenders than there were patrons, the service could have been a lot better. Everything seemed to take longer than necessary--even just getting a glass of water. I never received a second cocktail I ordered. Unbeknownst to us it was also "ladies night" and a DJ was there, blasting music to a near-empty restaurant. It was not a relaxing meal.
This restaurant seems like a place in search of an identify. The bar, the centerpiece of the main dining room, seems to be going for a cool vibe with funky lighting. The music being played adds to the atmosphere. However, the many, many TVs tuned to sports seemed out of place. The furniture was dated, especially the bench seats around the perimeter of the room were heavily worn. The food was decent, with exceptions. For example, the scallop dish was good, but the bacon that topped the scallops was cold and hard, like it had been sitting around for hours.
It was a very quiet night at VB3. Based on the previous reviews we expected outstanding food, which it wasn't. More upscale bar food. The food was good but given that VB3 is rated as a top restaurant in NJ we truly expected something exceptional. The service was very good and everyone was very friendly.
I had the pork saltimbocca and the whole entree was way to salty ..so when I told the waiter he returned the meal but when I received my check it was still on there ..so I mentioned it to the waiter ,he took it to the manager and instead of taking it off the bill he comp'd my drinks ...I still paid a portion of the meal...I won't ever go back due to poor management ...
Took my wife for Valentine's Day Dinner and was not disappointed. Appetizers of mussels with garlic sauce were great, i had the whole deboned bronzino, my wife had the lamb chops and as sides we ordered the cauliflower and the truffle parmesan fries. Everything was spot on and the presentation was great. What was also neat was that their bread basket was a basket of cupcake size yorkshire pudding breads with a sprinkling of cheese on them. Really fantastic! We will definitely go back. My only disappointment was that they took off the charcuterie board (italian antipasto version) off the menu but their chopped antipasto salad made up for it.
The food was amazing! Every part of the meal was a treat from the appetizer to the main course. There were so many options on the menu but we opted for eggplant meatballs for the appetizer which blew my mind and tasted so unique. For the entrees we ordered eggplant Parmesan and lobster mac and cheese with a side of truffle fries and roasted potatoes. Each thing we ordered tasted great and the server was so polite. The ambiance of VB3 is romantic and inviting at the same time. The bar has every liquor you can think of and the drinks are well made too. This is a great place to dine and/or have group gatherings. I will return for more.
Our hearts sank when we entered. Huge TV screens and loud mindless music, when we wanted a quiet leisurely catch-up lunch. However, we were ushered to a quiet part of the restaurant and the waiter turned down the loudness. In fact the service was outstanding, and the food (we just had mimosas, salads and desert) was delicious and thoughtfully conceived, in fact deserving of a more pleasant setting. My only recommendation to the owners is to decide what clientele they want to market to.
I eat here for lunch quite often, so when my wife came to meet me after work one day I figured we could grab a nice meal here. I typically enjoy their vodka sauce so I ordered the penne vodka. For $20 I was disappointed in the portion I received considering it was a bowl of $.99' pasta with sauce. It was also fairly dry. I usually love to soak up some excess sauce with bread, but they never brought bread to the table like most restaurants either. My wife ordered the crab Mac and cheese, which she enjoyed.
The music playing while we ate our dinner? We were surprised to hear "F@ck You" by Eamon, since I had not heard it in almost ten years. We were even more surprised when we realized it was the uncensored version. Classy.
I have to tell you, Jersey City has great places to dine, this is not one of them.. service horrible actually none.. Food, we ordered an appetizer of Calamari, it was like rubber, over cooked, no taste, Organic Salad, could not eat it, yes it was organic, so organic they forgot to wash it, I do love my salad with the dirt it was grown in. Pizza, delivered cold, by the way still waiting for plates, forks and knives, asked numerous times during each course and never came, got up and got my own after awhile..
Went with a group of 12. Lots of appetizers shared. Dinners all around.
Had to send back my branzino because it was overcooked and charcoal-ly. Waiter took care of it quickly and the second time around it was excellent. The rest of the meals all looked great. The meatballs were excellent.
Delicious variation on a Manhattan with fig liquor.
I'd go back.
VB3 is a quaint restaurant with a very nice bar that attracts the locals. They are very loud to say the least but hey, it was happy hour and they seemed to be enjoying themselves. The food was very good including the calamari which was very spicy. I recommend VB3 very highly however, if you're looking for a peaceful dining experience, you better bring your ear muffs.
Service was excellent, but the food was just ok. Don't order steak in a pizza place.
Also, did not like the fact that a large group of people came in near our table and just stood around drinking. They were loud, and I wish the waiter or manager (owner?) would have politely asked them to go to the bar area if they were going to stand around and drink. If those were their tables, then they should have been sitting and drinking/talking. I had to get up and ask for the check so we could leave. We were going to leave in the next 5-10 minutes anyway, but the rude patrons hurried our exit.
The restaurant has a club feel to it and a glowing bar (very tacky). The restaurant lacks identity, seems confused about its lounge atmosphere and the amount of tvs which are more sports bar like. The table next to us was a loud and obnoxious family. This was not the restaurants fault but provided an unfortunate ambience. Our waiter was kind and timely but couldn't answer any of our qestions. He didn't seem to be experienced about the food or restaurant. The food wasn't inedible but not great either. My husband had the strip steak and it was overcooked. I had the clams linguine and it was just poor. I've made better myself and I'm no chef. Overall everything was disappointing. We won't be back and I will not recommend this place to anyone.
