   A very interesting restaurant serving South Indian traditional vegetarian food. The décor is beautiful - all walls are hand-painted. The menu is pre-fix and all you can it.

   Plentiful delicious food with attentive service. Like eating at someone's home. Food is authentic and staff are very friendly and let you take your time. I liked how they balanced being there when we needed without being overbearing. Some more ambiance in the way of music would be nice. There was some playing on the level below us. Otherwise it gets rather noisy which spoils the enjoyment of the restaurant.

   I was looking for a vegetarian restaurant with vegan options and Vatan came up with vveryygooviews. I thought the food was very good and the service was very good. The waitress explained what we were eating (prix fix) and it was quite filling. I might have liked more variety and choice in the menu but we all really enjoyed the meal. Ambiance was unique for NYC. Although dark inside, it was quiet enough for conversation and I think we all enjoyed the restaurant. ( I can't seem to change the remarks above - should say very good reviews...

   Everything was described to us well so that we knew what we were going to eat. Second time to this restaurant and we will be back!

   Wonderful food and ambiance, except that the waitstaff rushed us out. For the price I would rather not feel like I am being pushed out the door after an hour and a half. I remember having leisurely dinners here with dear friends. Maybe because it was a 5:30 reservation on a Saturday night they were eager to seat the next set of diners. I would no longer invite out of town guests that I want to catch up with to this venue.

   We were visiting NYC and Vatan was suggested by our friend. Not a big fan of eat as much as you like (buffet) places, but Vatan is unlike those! It's more a refill and that too with authentic Gujarati cuisine. Much recommended...

    the ambience was very good. the server was good too but I was totally shocked when after 35 minutes, still not even started dessert , the owner walks around and says that if you can eat soon and leave since people are waiting!!!!! this was the first time in 20 yrs I have experienced. Cant imagine after charging 32$ per person , the owner can talk like this. So obnoxious!! this reason is enough for me to never go back. also, due to the high volume, it takes forever for the server to bring refills which is understandable, but this was least expected from the owner
