Varanese settled in Louisville because of its successful independent dining scene, and he believes that the people of Louisville will appreciate fresh ingredients, prepared with a creative flair and a culturally diverse menu. Varanese’s eclectic menu boasts an array of options from stuffed grape leaves, and fried green tomato salad, to new signature entrées: the seared boneless pork chop, and caramelized orange salmon. Finish with a fried banana accompanied by a house-made oatmeal cookie dough ice cream dessert. This New American style restaurant will comfortably seat 150 guests between its bar, dining room and four seasons patio. The four seasons patio of Varanese is an addition to the building, which has a dramatic 20-foot slate water wall. Varanese Ratings and Reviews
We consider Varanese our “go-to” restaurant for special occasions but it is a great place to eat anytime. We brought good friends with us, and they loved it! It was our wedding anniversary. Our table had rose petals strewn across it. The service was prompt and consistent. We never had to look for someone to fill our water glass. Our drinks, salads, entrees and dessert were all excellent. Great waiter. We ordered bourbon salmon, a steak and another fish dish. Our friends raved about the cream cheese grits. All in all, Varanese delivers every time we go. Thanks, John!!
I've enjoyed Varanese on several occasions. Always a great menu and some excellent specials offered. I'v never had a disappointing meal - they are so good that I struggle to explore the menu, but when I do, I just have a new favorite!
I don't often eat dessert, but when I do, it will be the bread pudding.
This is absolutely a gem in Louisville, which is blessed with so many good restaurants.
Perfect meal from beginning to end! Service was prompt and attentive but not at all rushed. I ordered the pork chop and split the baked brie, candied pecan salad, and chocolate lava cake with my partner. Every bite was so good that I’d be mad at myself if I had ordered anything else! Trio of musicians added a nice ambience without making conversation impossible.
My wife and I went to celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary and that we had just bought a house. We made a reservation and upon arrival, despite being 20 minutes early, we were seated immediately. There is a live band playing music while you eat, there was a water accent wall where it was an indoor waterfall, ambient lighting, white table cloths, and a fair amount of seating. We were sat away from most people which was nice for us since we could talk more and it wasn't as loud. As soon as we sat down, a gentleman came over and filled our glasses and when our waiter came over he brought us a small plate with 2 baguette slices with fresh bruschetta. This small plate set the tone for how great the food was going to be. The bruschetta was extremely fresh and had great flavor. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and gave us some recommendations through the menu and we put in our drink order while we looked over the menu. I got a scotch on the rocks and my wife had the French Fusion (SO GOOD!) it had absolut pear with white grape juice, muddled grapes and mint, and was just fruity enough without being overly sweet. We got the fried avocado stuffed with crab meat and it was delicious but I would probably try a different appetizer next time. I chose the crabcake sandwich and fries for my entree and my wife got the certified angus skirt steak with crispy brussel sprouts and garlic whipped potatoes. They were both excellent and my wife couldn't stop eating the brussel sprouts. It was an awesome meal. Because my wife mentioned what we were celebrating, our waiter actually gave us a free dessert of our choice and we chose the bourbon bread pudding with salted caramel ice cream. We savored every bite of that dessert! Our waiter really made the experience top notch which just added to make it one of the best meals we have had in a long time. We highly recommend this restaurant.
Very disappointed on this place for my birthday- appetizer very strange - short ribs taquitos that did not have any resemblance to taquitos as I know them and no short rib taste or flavor - then I had a Caesar salad which had very little dressing and croutons which were soagy - I think croutons need to be crispy - then I had an age ribeye which was cooked perfectly medium rear but it needed seasoning - then they ruined it by covering it with some gravy which tasted like it came from a bottle - it was strange- the steak came on top of mashed potatoes which tasted so so but they were cold - then I turned to my wife and asked her how her food was - she said strange - she ordered tortellini which I know she likes very much - she ate very little and took the rest home - it is in the refrigerator for already 3 days - I don’t think she’s going to eat it - they were nice to bring me a desert but it looked old and extremely hard - my wife did not let me call the next day like I wanted - she said we will never go back and I agree - I had a good time with my guests and ate as not to make too much of a scene - I would wish for the manager to read this in hope he accepts as constructive criticism for other souls visiting his place in the future - that’s my wish - thank you - we spent 130.00 plus - I know a few places that we can go for less and be better satisfied
My husband and I celebrated New Years Eve for the third year in a row. We are typically casual diners on non occasions. However, during a crazy holiday we were incredibly pleased and impressed with all aspects. The service the bar tending with wonderful drinks, the friendliness and food were extraordinary!!!
Very disappointed in the food. The-prices were very reasonable for entres -. Unfortunately the food was surprisingly pedestrian. The roast chicken was disappointing as were the scallops and we definitely will not make a repeat visit. The couple who were our guests for dinner to celebrate a birthday made no comment about their dishes.
My wife and I enjoyed our night and food. We spend Christmas Eve alone and really enjoyed our dinner and atmosphere at Varanese. We split the mussels and they were great. We also split the goat cheese salad and it was wonderful. Her beef tip tortellini was great and so was my pecan crusted bass.
We ate our annual Christmas dinner there and my daughter got the aged ribeye and said it was the best steak shes ever had. My husband got the poultry/sausage entree (i forgot the name) and he loved it and I got the brisket on a waffle and it was amazing. The brie appetizer was super good with the sauce and nuts- we all agreed next time we come our first words will be "bring us each a brie". The bread pudding was an unexpected 10 as I usually am not thrilled with bread pudding- but I am now! This will become a regular hangout for us now.
This was our first visit and we came on the recommendation of a family member. The food was delicious, although the pork chop was a bit tough in spots. It was cooked to medium, as suggested by server. I would ask for well done next time. We were comped a dessert for our special occasion, which was very nice. Service was a little slow towards the end, but we still plan on a return visit.
We are new to Louisville and were looking for a dinner spot on a Sunday evening for my husband’s birthday. Varanese made us feel warm and welcome and made our first special occasion in Louisville very special indeed. The food and service were outstanding. They had several vegetarian options and a great wine selection. Thank you so much for making it a great evening.
